Default Affordable uniforms law will miss new school year

[A new law aimed at making school
uniforms cheaper in England and Wales
will not be in place in time for the
start of this school year.

Headteachers are waiting for the
new statutory guidance on uniforms,
which will make schools place affordability
at the centre of their uniform policy.
The government says schools should expect
full details in the autumn.

But that means parents will not benefit
from the changes as schools go back this September.

According to The Children's Society,
the average uniform costs £315 per
primary school pupil and £337 per secondary pupil.

Mike Amesbury, the Labour MP
who first introduced the legislation,
said he would be "incredibly disappointed"
if any further delays to the guidance
meant that the changes weren't fully
in force for the start of the next academic year,
beginning in September 2022.]

Never found primary schools ones too expensive but eldest started high school this year and yeah, it was pricey. About £600 for both kids but If say that was £150 for the youngest (primary school) and £450 for the kiddo starting high school.

To be fair though, that included blazer which SHOULD be good for at least 2 years, assuming she doesn’t trash it.

I've never paid close to those kind of amounts for my son's uniform. Luckily, his school only has a logoed sweatshirt....which is not mandatory so most of his uniform is bought from a supermarket, I always get 2 logoed jumpers but his trousers, pe kit and polo shirts all come in at less than £30 all in. His trainers cost the most now his feet are getting bigger.

The school I want him to go next year has an estimated cost of £550 though....

I just paid €194 for Luke's uniform and tracksuit which isn't too bad reading the cost of some of the ones above

There was a place we always got my uniform cheaper when I was younger. Only the blazer required the school's logo and you could buy just the logo from the school for a couple of quid to have sewn onto your own blazer.
