Ours have gone silly.
In the downwards direction. We pay £96 a month direct debit fixed until February, but we can’t be using much as this months bill is only £56 so we are another £40 in credit. |

People on Working Tax Credit have to wait more than 3 months until the autumn before they get any of this money.
But no date has been mentioned. Could be late October/November. |

https://nltimes.nl/2022/07/27/dutch-...highest-europe
The Netherlands has the second highest gas price in Europe, with Dutch consumers paying about double the EU average. Only Sweden has a higher gas price, Energievergelijk.nl reports after analyzing figures from the Household Energy Price Index on 33 European countries. Netherlands residents pay 0.2319 euro per kilowatt hour (kWh) of gas, or 2.25 euro per cubic meter of gas, including taxes and grid costs. Sweden pays 0.2379 euros per kWh or 2.31 euros per cubic meter of gas. Gas is significantly cheaper in Germany (0.14 euros per kWh) and Belgium (0.12 euros per kWh). “We owe our high gas price to a large extent to the high taxes. Over 37 percent of our gas bill consists of government levies, namely energy tax and VAT. Nowhere else in Europe is this share so high,” said Koen Kuijper of Energievergelijk.nl. The rest of the Dutch gas price consists of 57 percent of fixed and variable supply costs paid to the energy supplier and just over 6 percent to grid management costs. Because gas also plays a significant role in Dutch electricity production, the Netherlands electricity price is also above average. Netherlands residents pay 30.5 euro cents per kWh of electricity, 4 cents more than the European average. The Netherlands has the 10th highest electricity price in Europe. |

[Energy giants Shell and Centrica enjoy soaring profits as prices rise British Gas owner Centrica enjoyed half-year profits five times higher than those in 2021's first six months, while Shell attributed its enormous numbers to higher prices, refining profits, and gas trading. Shell has reported record profits of $11.5bn (£9.4bn) for the second quarter, more than double last year's figure of $5.5bn (£4.5bn). The oil giant had already smashed its own quarterly record at the start of the year when it clocked up profits of $9.1bn (£7.2bn), but the sums continued to rise into Q2. Shell attributed the enormous numbers to higher prices, refining profits and gas trading, though this was partly offset by lower liquefied natural gas trading.] The Government must tell them to reduce their prices https://news.sky.com/story/energy-gi...-rise-12660367 Last edited by arista; 28-07-2022 at 09:23 AM. |

There are predictions now that energy costs could be £500 a month over the winter. A completely different strategy is required now from the government

I know the British right always harkens to times past, but sending folks back to the Victorian times seems a little extreme, even for tories.

Bills are going up another £500/month in January, so that £400 isn't going to last very long.
Instead of addressing the main cause - energy profiteering, they are doing next to nothing. Jeremy would have sorted this out by nationalising them.

The way they are planning to pay it seems a bit off too. I don't need it myself but for those who get bills in December January this isn't going to ease the burden significantly at that moment in time. |

Well no, but Corbyn is the only one to have a policy to solve this before it even became an issue.

BP has reported massive profits for the three months to June after oil and gas prices soared.
The energy giant saw underlying profits hit $8.45bn (£6.9bn) - more than triple the amount it made at the same time last year. The figure is the second highest in the firm's history and takes its half-year profits to $14.6bn. |
