the business model of the failed companies was to assume that the price of gas would always fall, and to tempt other companies customers away by offering prices that reflected a falling gas price trend. It's hardly a surprise that they go out of business when there is a price cap to protect consumers and they were selling their gas for cheaper than they bought it. It's a very blinkered business model and was bound to fail as soon as their was a gas price rise. Consumers will be able to switch to another supplier so its no big deal, no matter how much the media try and panic everyone

Tibb should sell itself to the national grid, the money we could make with all this gas, imagine.

They are predicting that gas prices are going to go through the roof next year. Who is on a fixed price plan or who is going to join one now? I signed up for one last week with no exit fees, so if the price comes down I can always exit the plan and go for a cheaper option.

Really concerning.
Not for myself, I'm able to absorb more costs even though I find them sickening. All it is now, is bills up and then up again and again. For those, even in work, who find these extra costs crippling. My heart goes out to them all. Sadly, it's termed necessary and apparently our government can do nothing or WON'T do anything about it. So we are really up the creek without a paddle. |

Also, our drive for the environment actually means that we will be using more gas until we get greener options on line, so we are ****ed from every angle |

Thankfull we use **** all in terms of gas, like £40 a month and that's with a gas cooker (both hob and oven, and we cook frequently). If they really do go through the roof, will probably swap out for an all electric cooker, or at least an electric oven/gas hob combo, which would probably at least half our usage if not more. Electricity also went up significantly between my last fixed term and this one though. Exaceerbated, I've realised, but us using a tonne more electricity during lockdowns 1 & 2 than normal so their estimates of our usage are way off. We had 3 desktop PC's running all day, plus my youngest was in a phase where playing in the shower was a guaranteed way to keep her amused and calm, so there were multiple days per week that she was in there for literally 2 - 3 hours (electric shower) |

Things like supplementing with solar panels are definitely becoming more attractive options as electricity prices increase...

the next price rise is early in the new year when the poop is going to hit the fan and the cap is going to be raised by a lot. It will probably all settle down come the spring, but a lot of energy companies will be trying to recover astronomical losses which is never good for the consumer

[Britain is facing a bleak winter of soaring energy costs, with gas prices rising by a staggering 37 % in one day The price of gas reached 400p per therm - the first time it has reached that level - and up 600% in 2021 It fell again to 270p after Putin said Russia was ready to increase gas supplies before raising delayed new pipe Families face paying £1,600 more for energy in April and an extra £1,800 for other essentials by Christmas] https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-supplies.html Last edited by arista; 07-10-2021 at 11:09 AM. |
