For me, the 70s. Thank god that era put an end to the Beatles. Although some of their solo work from 1971 was good (My Sweet Lord, It Don’t Come Easy).
Mostly the 70s as it was such a varied and exciting decade. We start it with Simon & Garfunkel ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ and end it with the likes of Gary Numan and ‘Cars’. We also get a fantastic selection of artists in this era who are still household names today; ABBA and 10cc to name two off the top of my head. ![]() ![]() |

The 00's had a decent range and quality of Music imo.
You could go from One Step Closer to Dry Your Eyes to White Flag to then songs like Akon's Lonely & Muse's Plug In Baby. The Music is not as diverse at the moment. The 90's & 70's have some really strong songs too though.

Torn between the 60s and 70s but opted for the 70s
You left out the 50s which was the birthplace of Rock and Soul/Motown. |

Probably 70’s on a really fundamental level - so much new variation and experimentation with different genres of music trickling into the mainstream after the 60’s ended. So I voted for that.
Personally for me though, 90s all the way. From Britpop and Europop to the classic hip hop/R&B from the States and more. Bliss. Last edited by LaLaLand; 27-01-2022 at 08:35 PM. |

If you were to make your own greatest hits compilation album from your favourite decade, what would be on it?

I felt like I should have included number ones in there, but also some good songs that didn’t top the chart, so I mixed them

70's without a doubt. There were so many really great bands at the peak of their trade. Even the charts were filled end to end with good stuff

Pearl Jam, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers are still together and touring. Guns N Roses are on/off together. And the singers from both Soundgarden and Nirvana are dead. So no you're very wrong about these bands "period" being 91-93 Love the Britpop 90's yeah Osais, Blur, Supergrass, Pulp, The Verve, Suede, Stereophonics, Travis, Catatonia, Manic Street preachers, Black Grape, Ash etc And a few of my other favourites Greenday, Alanis Morissette, No Doubt. Just off the top of my head

I'm always torn between 80s & 90s , I wish I had a time machine to go back to the 80s as I grew up in the 90s really.

I don't think it's really possible to do it as "a decade" because there's too much overspill at either end. Basically I'd say the 80's overall but as a 20 year span, 1975 - 1995.

2000's as it's the decade I grew up in, but the 90's had some fantastic artists and bands at their peak or arriving - Nine Inch Nails, PJ Harvey, Bjork, Nirvana, Slipknot, Hole.
80's were good, 70's were fine and had some classics but along with the 60's was too full of boring dad rock bands. Last edited by Daniel.; 29-01-2022 at 01:50 PM. |
