The thing that aggravates me about this is, Jeremy Vine records everything on his camera when he's on the road... lots of cyclists do it; some of them upload it to the Internet or send it to the police. However, when a cyclist does something idiotic there is no means of identifying them. They are unregistered and are not required to be insured. When a woman was killed by a cyclist in London a few years ago by a man on an illegal bike with no front brake, they had to use a law from the 1900s, “wanton and furious driving”, in order to prosecute him because no more current law existed. Calls for a new law more specific to this kind of incident was called "a witch hunt against cyclists".

How are you supposed to get out from there then?.... unless you inch out to see further down the road who is going to sit there for however long behind the cycle lane waiting for the traffic to stop on such a busy road?

Yes it's a cycle lane, he isn't driving in it he is stationary. Cyclists can't always have an uninterrupted flow surely in such a busy area? Like other road users they can be concientious and wait a few seconds to help people out of tight junctions. The chances of that road being clear of both cars and bikes for long enough to pull out safely are nil.

I'm with the guy, I wouldn't have given a feck either.

I noticed abother cyclist coming up the cycle lane against the flow of traffic too, he didn't take issue with that.

See the broken white line? ... that is a junction not a cycle lane. He is not driving or parked, he is stationary waiting to pull out.

Rule 140 of The Highway Code says, "You MUST NOT drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a solid white line during its times of operation. Do not drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a broken white line unless it is unavoidable. You MUST NOT park in any cycle lane whilst waiting restrictions apply."18 May 2020

What's with the rude comment?...

There is nothing in the new regulations that mentions pulling OUT of a side street into a busy road with limited viability.

The driver did the right thing.

At the beginning of a the clip Jeremy says all the is required is a wave and an apology, then by the end of it he is citing correctly that it caused a dangerous situation, so which is is Jeremy?

the driver should have waited until the cycle lane was clear before pulling out.., just like you would do with oncoming traffic....he didn't pause for the mini either just cut in front so ....but he doesn't give a **** so there we are

The only thing that caused a dangerous situation there was jeremy distracting the driver.

[What are the new Highway Code rules for 2022?

Drivers no longer have priority at junctions. ...
All traffic must stop for pedestrians waiting at crossings. ...
Cyclists can ride wherever they feel most visible. ...
Drivers must wait for a safe gap in the flow of cyclists. ...
All uses of hand-held mobiles are banned, except in an emergency. ...
Poor driving decisions more punishable.

He did.. Vine was some considerable distance away when the guy moved forward. And had he not distracted him he may have been able to pull out safely during the exchange..
Where was his condemnation of the guy on the escooter?. .. what does the highway code say about them?

I hate london cyclists. They think they are king of the road and will deliberately try to mow down pedestrians if they think theyre in the way

Well I'm going to say I'm a bit biased too.. I bloody hate cyclists!
Well that's not 100% true, if you are taking care of yourself and others with hi viz, lights and helmets then great crack on. But if you aren't?.. then get the hell off the road! !

Agree, that junction looks like a nightmare to pull out of. Reality is in that situation you will probably need to position yourself to get out quickly where there's a gap, if you stay sitting behind the cycle lane you won't have very good visibility of the road and you'll be there all day

A lot of drivers will be courteous in a situation like that and flash you to pull out, zero chance a cyclist would

Oh piss off Jeremy, your radio show is just as depressing, I remember a Friday lunchtime you were discussing people throwing rocks off bridges and not playing music, even though this was radio 2.

Why is it edited like that? Jeremy has too much time on his hands
