Our government is putting up tax. Do you see that governments can actually help, and you don't need to defend the fact they are happy to let the poor starve and freeze to death?

At this point it's not even just "the poor", between the NI rise, utilities going up 50% (and that's just the start) and the soaring fuel prices, households are going to be down easily Ł300/month. I don't know many people who wouldn't feel that. No it's not as dire as starving or having to go without heating - but there'll be some clear impacts. People have a tendency to "expand into their money" i.e. have a bigger car loan/bigger mortgage/higher rent the more they earn and other financial committments... it's certainly not just those on low income who will struggle to find an extra Ł300 that isn't already tied up.

Putin isn't really having the effect on our cost of living you've been lead to believe. If Russia didn't invade, we'd be having the exact same conversation about the CoL crisis.

Can you just explain how you think this is the reason for the CoL crisis, when we already knew it was going to happen before Russia invaded?

In the past 2 years, the wealth of billionaires has risen by Ł3 trillion.

How about taxing some of that wealth to help the majority of the country.

My confused. .. it seems a win to have the NIC threshold raised.. however isn't that for NHS benefits and pension contributions? If you don't pay enough won't you be ineligible?

I imagine people will get a credit for the first 12,500 then payment kicks in after that

Again what's the point in cutting fuel tax by 5p/litre if the prices will have gone up another 10p/litre in a couple of weeks anyway. Daft.

NI changes aren't terrible but don't come close to actually covering the increases.

The main thing that needs addressed is energy costs. They're avoiding this like the plague. I reckon the majority can JUST ABOUT handle the 50% increase, a lot of it can be mitigated for most households by having "better practice" with energy but from October onwards it's an abolute ****show, they'll have doubled at least, and at some point in the future they may spiral completely out of control.

it's all smoke and mirrors in my opinion.

The amount of assistance they are giving people is a piss in the ocean compared to the cost of living increases. If we thought it was bad now, just wait till we get to the last quarter of the year.
