Default Do YOU think there should be a General Election?

In normal circumstances, I wouldn't say that a GE is needed if a Prime Minister gets the boot (or needs to) as we don't have a presidential system - PMs aren't elected, they head the party with the most MPs.

But Johnson's rise to office was pretty unique, or at least achieved through very specific circumstances - at the time he was Jolly Old Boris, seen as a bit of a buffoon but a good laugh, etc etc, or at least by those who weren't fully paying attention; he was promising to "Get Brexit Done", and rightly or wrongly a lot of people were sick to the back teeth of it being endlessly dragged out with no end in sight, and just wanted it done with; and he was against Corbyn.

None of these things are relevant now - even those who don't pay much attention can surely see what he is, Brexit "is" done, and he's not against Corbyn.

So as the General Election had a result which was something of a "lightning in a bottle", do you think ousting Boris could justify another GE?

the conservatives have a mandate to govern for 4 years, nothing has changed. Has anyone really learnt anything new about Boris since before the election?

We've had 3 elections in the last 7 years, I think another one will only leave us worse off tbh as I could only see a hung parliament

The fact this is even a discussion when the gov has a massive majority is pretty mad

As much as I really don't like Boris, how many times are the Tories gonna oust their leaders? It's getting beyond a joke if it happens again.

If I was a tory, I'd actually be in favour of 4 years of Starmer to break the mess up a bit. You'll have a continuation of tory cruelty and absolutely no chance of him trying to make any citizens life better.

If you keep going like this, you'll end up out of power for a decade again.

i think strategically, a labour government right now would be fantastic in the long term for the tories. The government that presides over the mess to come in the next 4+ years is going to get mauled by the public at a GE

Let Starmer have a couple of years and everyone will be begging Boris to come back

I agree. I think having a proper labour socialist in could be bad for tories, but starmer isn't that, and you'll get right back in power before anyone really notices. People get fed up of the constant sleaze, law breaking etc, so they'll eventually vote them out anyway for longer.

Another couple of years of this nonsense will really tire folks out.

Oh good god, Tory-lite.

I wish that a third option would come along that's actually competent.

Tbh people are always the same.

Blame the leader for all of our woes, when they can't do these policies without the majority of the party supporting them (most of the time) it happened to Cameron & May as well, tbf I have been guilty of blaming the leaders as well, but like in Football when a team has gone through 8-9 Managers, it means that the problem lies elsewhere in the Football Club, and it's similar in Politics, if it was the PM that was the issue then you wouldn't be having issues with three different PM's from the same party back to back on each other.

That to me tells me that something else is pinching at that Party.

And with Starmer & Boris, at least they're not the two candidates that the US has got to decide between.

But basically I agree with you to some extent.

But yeah, when everything goes to pot, at least we'll have the comforting thought that our PM is endearing.

I didn't voice an opinion about Corbyn in my post, but what I should have made clearer is that I meant a party lead by Corbyn just wouldn't win an election, the media seen to that.

Exactly... you would never describe Trump as endearing would you

It’s just a shame that Boris had to cope with a one in a century pandemic ( the last one was 1918 apparently) .. things could have been so very different - all his detractors seem to have forgotten his time in intensive care and then him returning to the frontline far too soon ..

Anyways as I’ve said I have no interest in politics or politicians but I don’t think you are all gonna get a general election just a bog standard politician in his place until they have to call an election.

I don't live in America, so it's okay to laugh at a clown across the ocean. Even he couldn't fk up America to the point it would damage the UK.
