The plug socket is still present and used, but not for landline phone purposes.

yes but like Josy there is no phone plugged into it, I have tried to get rid of it many times but with deal I am on it is cheaper to keep the landline

If you're with Virgin its pointless trying to get rid ! i would have years ago but there is no package without a phoneline, so they have had us all over a barrel fo many years now. It bugs me big time.
