Default Greggs sales jump as people turn to value meals

[Cost of living live: Greggs sales jump
as people turn to value meals;
energy bills could be more than
predicted by next year

Cost of living latest as
energy consultant Cornwall Insight
says regular gas and electricity bills
could reach £3,615 in the new year;
bakery chain Greggs sees sales jump
in the first half of the year as
more people across the UK turn to value meals.]

[Greggs sales jump as customers
turn to cheaper meals
The bakery chain Greggs has seen
sales jump in the first half of the year
as more people across the UK turn
to value meals.
Sales leapt by 27.1% in the 26 weeks
to 2 July to a total of £694.5 million,
compared with £546.2 million a year earlier.
But half-year profits remained
largely flat year on year at £55.8m
compared with £55.5m last year,
due to the reintroduction of business rates,
an increase in VAT and higher levels
of cost inflation.

With soaring inflation putting
a strain on people's incomes,
consumers are more likely to turn
to lower-cost food and drink while
on the go, Greggs said.]
