It's not against the law there? You get an on the spot fine here if you're caught smoking in a car with minors inside

Yes it’s illegal so no idea why she said this

is illegal to smoke in a car (or other vehicle) with anyone under 18. The law changed on 1 October 2015, to protect children and young people from the dangers of secondhand smoke.

Both the driver and the smoker could be fined £50. The law applies to every driver in England and Wales, including those aged 17 and those with a provisional driving licence.

The law applies:

to any private vehicle that is enclosed wholly or partly by a roof
when people have the windows or sunroof open, or the air conditioning on
when someone sits smoking in the open doorway of a vehicle
The law does not apply to:

e-cigarettes (vaping)
a driver who is 17 years old if they are on their own in the car
a convertible car with the roof completely down

Health Secretary Therese Coffey today claimed the rule-change to outlaw smoking in cars with children was probably not 'the right thing to be doing'.

Dr Coffey made the controversial statement as it was revealed she plans to U-turn on the Government's pledge to unveil an action plan to tackle tobacco use.

The cigar-puffing Liz Truss ally said she voted against the law change in 2015 because she didn't believe in telling parents what to do.

She admitted that she did not know whether the law change actually was implemented at the time.

And she also claimed she is 'not aware' whether the Government will be scrappingthe the target to get the adult smoking rate down to 5 per cent, when asked about the latest U-turn.

Labour's Wes Streeting, her opposite number in the shadow cabinet, accused her of being 'clueless and hopeless'.

In another embarrassing gaffe for the Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Coffey's 8am phone alarm went off during her media round of morning interviews again.

Laughing off the incident, she said: 'It's not Dr Dre this time.' Last month, her phone started blaring the 1999 hit 'Still D.R.E.' at the same time during an interview.

it gets worse by the day with this lot. Not only is Truss incompetent, she has surrounded herself with people that are not taking the posts they are in seriously. Ive seen a few bad governments in my time, but i think this is the worst yet, and its only been going a few weeks

What the actual ****? What kind of a health secretary are they? I mean I'm not one for nanny states and I'd be against telling adults whether they can smoke etc but a child has no choice in the matter, it isn't just "telling parents how to parent" it's an actual health issue, it's like saying it's the parents choice whether to put their childs seat belt on or not

People could die because of Thérèse Coffey’s “ultra-libertarian ideological” reluctance to crack down on smoking and obesity, a Conservative ex-health minister has warned.

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/health/oth...beaaac8e0f19b3

As I have previously said she has no interest in her own health, so there is no hope for her caring for anyone else

Nicola sturgeon has put a tax on just about every fat inducing thing apart from fried chicken, and Scotland lead the way in fat ridden deaths.

It's not a bad idea to give a four year old a Cigarette, it might enlighten the child.

But obviously it's a silly idea from our Health Minister, we as a country need to make sure that parents are responsible around their kids.

Oddly back in the good old days if a youngster was caught smoking they were made to EAT the cigarette as a punishment AND deterrent
