When they were introduced back in the day, lots of groups, similar to old Facebook "relatable fan pages," got made. It's proper nostalgic looking at mine:

Yeah there was often attempts to make them a 'thing' but hardly any of them ever got posted in and died a quick death. I think the 18+ one was probably the most successful one when people got annoyed they couldn't swear or post porn on the main forum
It's similar with the blog function, people often tried to get that going but too few people would use it or read them |
