I believe it would end certain mental health issues in kids.
Short sharp shock, it worked in the movies of days gone by on hysterical women, and definitely kids of the 80s. A scenario.. A kid dumping their socks to be washed, all scrunched up like a burst and unused accordion in a heap in the corner of their room. An exasperated mother saying, "unravel your socks or they wont wash properly , it's all I ask. If you dont start doing it i wont wash them" Kids like, whatever mum... but suddenly has no socks to wear cause mums kept to her word..MASSIVE ARGUMENT....kids wandering about with either stinky, or no socks. Still not grasped the simplicity of what was asked. What I say...One quick clip round the ear for originally not sorting the socks out would have stopped all this in the future. |

No.
Or maybe, if the kids are allowed to hit back and the odds are evened, like the kids are allowed to use a weapon and body armor. That would be more fair. |

Not doing it is going so well for the kids though huh!!
I can say that as a kid who never wore stinky socks. I'm serious about this though..Kids need their attention brought to the here and now every now and again, to keep them on the right track. Last edited by Beso; 09-01-2023 at 09:40 PM. |

No.
One of my childhood memories is of being grabbed by the hair by a man I thought I knew. I was just walking up the road after a swimming on a Saturday morning swimming extravaganza He probably had shell shock or dementia or something, but i didn't know that at the time. Another one I've just remembered also involved hair pulling..my little sister, about 11, me 13.. New years at my mum and dads. A few of their mates round from the rugby club. One bloke, grabbed my sister by the hair whilst offering her a new years kiss whilst everyone else was on the kitchen. I wasnt, and he ****ing found that out. Who did my dad Leather though...I will let you all guess that. Last edited by Beso; 09-01-2023 at 10:15 PM. |

You cant just go around hitting. The hitting has to be justified, and sometimes given at appropriate moments whether needed or not. Like say, half time in the semi final of a school rugby game. I can vouch for that making you alert and more so, grateful. Gratefull to that half time clout round the lug hole from your pe teacher as you went full ahead mental on the pitch to pull back an 8 point deficit to win the game 18-10 Funnily enough, I clean his windows now. Met him last Tuesday. Hardest I've ever wiped a window in my life, purely out of respect. Last edited by Beso; 09-01-2023 at 11:33 PM. |

I wouldn't mind smacking kids that can't take a joke.
![]() But seriously no you can't go around smacking children around, no matter how annoying they may be. A reward system for good behaviour should be introduced to the kids imo, and a punishment system for bad behaviour.

For example.
Good behaviour - Child gets to eat their favourite food. Bad behaviour - the child has to eat cold Garlic Bread from Pizza Hut.

It's lazy parenting. You can discipline kids without violence

One "look" from my mum would have silenced 1000 men. I have never hit my son, he does as he is told without that. When he is cheeky he has consequences - believe me losing his phone scares him far more than me giving him a wallop.
The thing you have to do is follow through on consequences - the problems start when you say "if you do that again I'll take your phone" and then they do it again but you don't follow through. If they know you are serious, once you have given them the consequences they will think twice about not doing as you have asked. Also, actually listening to them helps - they are people and sometimes have legitimate reasons for not doing as they are told immediately.

I agree, it wouldn't work these days.
But kids definitely needs discipline and most of them aren't getting it anymore.
