Hands off my Brick!

I had a sudden realisation over the weekend that Porches in Ireland & The UK and Porches in America are completely different. We have such a thing as an American Porch but we call it a veranda but I don't think I've ever seen an Irish/British style "porch" on an American house, do they exist there?

I have often wondered by we dont adopt American style porches here, as it would be perfect for sitting in the rain when it is warm
and people love decking.... but not with a roof????
