It depends very-much on the mood, so there’s not just one answer to that |

If you drink (or get alcohol-free options at these very places and still tag along), where are you doing it on an ideal Friday night?

I drink more beer than anything else besides water (even besides Lucozade), so me and pubs just go hand-in-hand. I’ve done the club thing (albeit on a very, very low-key scale) and … ya. I’m good. Nice people, nice memories but clubs aren’t really my thing anyway.
I do like a good bar though. Slug and Lettuce is somewhere I’ve been meaning to go again for a while.

The irony is it’s technically illegal to be drunk in a pub (according to some obsolete ruling that hasn’t been cancelled out on paper yet). Did you know that?

According to the Dictionary, "a Bar is a counter which is used in Pubs, Restaurants, and Cafes across which drinks or refreshments are served."

Well yes, but the way people use it in the context of this thread ie a place to go to drink, it's just another word for Pub, isn't it?

A bit fancier and not really somewhere you go to drink Guinness or Fosters. They have beer, like, but at those prices you’re better off just getting sozzled off rum and cocktails. That’s more the vibe at bars anyway. Don’t Americans have almost zero pub culture?

You don’t have to even be up for a chat to be a pub-buff. Some people (especially introverts) if they’re not there with a close friend or chatting in the beer garden with acquaintances they’ve bumped into/random people wanting a chat are just there to mind their business and sip their Heineken. Sometimes just the warmth of being in the pub environment and people-watching is all the social stimulation you need if you’re not a particularly outgoing person. Or maybe you are but you enjoy your own company from time to time and don’t mind just … chilling and being.

To me there’s a very clear distinction between pubs and bars. No matter how gastro and trendy t’pub is.

Yeah but no-one’s really getting locked up for having one brandy too many unless they go out and be antisocial.
