Default Isle of Man Parliament setting up Assisted Dying (Now Legal)

[The right for terminally ill people on the
Isle of Man to be helped to die could
be a step closer after crucial votes in
its parliament on Tuesday.

Members will debate whether lethal drugs
should be self-administered or given
to those eligible by doctors.

The island could become the first part of
the British Isles to pass assisted-dying legislation.

If royal assent is received next year,
its first assisted death could come as soon as 2027.]

The direction of travel on this issue is scary

Futurama might have called it right thinking we'll end up having suicide booths on street corners

Are you not sure on it MTVN.

I have decided I couldn't support it.
It's a really heart wrenching one I know.
However if I had a vote on it, at this point I couldn't.

I'm.jusy not sure the right or secure checks could be in place and not got round on some cases.

I do listen to to those with more made up minds but I just feel worried about this.

[Terminally ill adults on the Isle of Man
the right to choose to end their
own lives have been agreed by the
Manx parliament.
It means the bill can now be sent for
Royal Assent, making it the first
parliament in the British Isles
to take this step.
Under the provisions in the
Assisted Dying Bill 2023,
adults with a prognosis of 12 months
or less to live would be given the
right to choose to die.
Those eligible would have to be over
the age of 18, and have lived on the
island for five years.

The Royal Assent process is where
the monarch formally approves a bill passed
by parliament for it to become law.

Members of the Legislative Council agreed
to the latest changes made to the
Assisted Dying Bill 2023 by the
House of Keys at a sitting earlier.

The proposed laws were brought forward
in a Private Member's Bill by
Ramsey MHK Alex Allinson.]

Hi joey. Thanks for the football reminders.

Dont you find the idea of choosing your moment for yourself and your family anlot better than your wife or husband finding you cold in bed beside them.

That happened to my mum, my dad died of pancreatic cancer, he went through the whole thing at home. It was awful for myself seeing him more deteriorated in each monthly visit. My last time whispering a private moment in the ear of a shell of a man, a once strong man reduced to Mr Burns.

Wouldn't it be better for some, if they wanted, to plan the time, maybe a time before total deterioration has set in. A time for smiles and memories shared about and with the lost soul while they are still here.

Maybe even be allowed to organise and attend your own funeral.

Dont worry about not replying, I'm used to it on here.
