…a very extreme reaction if she only sipped the drink/was able to have an epi pen shot quite quickly…although I don’t know how long to get to the pharmacy for the shot…huge error of negligence by Costa’s if it’s proven to be the drink …?..so sad that she couldn’t be saved, heartbreaking story…’just a visit to the dentist’…and her life gone…awful…

The Staff must be sacked.

And the Company must pay out money to the family

Why is it in Court for a week?

It is clear who is guilty

I don't understand how this happened if she was fatally allergic, there's no way to entirely prevent cross-contamination in a venue like that even before you consider the risk of errors. Milk protein allergy is very different to lactose intolerance. Even then though a fatal reaction with milk allergy is extremely rare?

Yeah I don't know enough about it to make any kind of real comment here but it seems a very extreme reaction to milk allergy(?) You'd think if the reactions were that strong and milk could be that deadly that quickly to her she would never risk a coffee shop drink that usually contains milk (when a supplement isn't requested so open for error)

…yeah, that’s why I said if it was proven to be the drink because that sounds like a hugely extreme reaction…and as with severe nut allergies …’could contain nuts’ because of the area the drink is prepared in, would apply also…it’s inevitable that dairy would have been present in that area …

Poor girl though, I don't think I'd ever eat out at all if I had allergies that severe , it would be terrifying

…no I know, it’s a very scary thing to live with…we’ve had children at the school with very severe allergies…/…mainly nut but we have had a few others on occasion’s…and what others around them are eating obviously had to be carefully looked at and considered as well..

Yeah the nut ones are crazy, that even another passenger on a plane eating nuts for example could effect the person with the allergy

i have a severe food intolerance/allergy and i am always hyper aware of where food is sourced. People have called me an ass, laughed at me, ignored me .... and everything in between, but the ultimate responsibility is mine on what I choose to eat or drink

My wife and daughter both shouldn't (but do lol) have dairy, my daughter is lactose intolerance and wife has mild milk protein allergy but neither would have more than a risk of a slightly off stomach.

Although, my wife did once eat a protein chocolate bar -- unaware that it's basically a condensed block of milk protein . She was VERY VERY unwell, in a lot of pain. But again that's a condensed block of pure protein not a little sip of milk.

i once threw up in a restaurant 3 minutes after eating a pea that had been buttered. I think the restaurant learnt a valuable lesson that night on listening to customer requests

Ch5HDnews Reporter Live there,

That Barking Costa

The Lady that served her took over 20 attempts
when she was doing the online course.

There is a book under the counter, if in doubt.
Which the staff lady never touched.

In Court, today
the ex-worker needed a translator in Court.

It appears Costa Coffee is Guilty of Employing
workers who do not understand English.

How can you employ someone who doesn't understand English?
You need to take allergies very seriously. Some can be fatal.
We have allergy free products in our factory and procedure is very strict.

Both are really bad, but this one is really common to happen, and it's wrong imo.

In any country, the people that are having jobs where they're communicating with people over the Phone, should be able to speak fluent at that language (in this case English,) it's wrong to expect the customer to have to translate what someone is saying to them over the Phone, over what should've been a simple inquiry no less.

Obviously the Milk allergy one is worse because it lead to someone dying, which probably wouldn't have happened if (in fairness to the worker) they hadn't given them a job where they have to take the customer's order.
