TiBB’s Very Finest
|
Right just hear me out for a sec x
I’ve generally enjoyed the ITV era of BB and feel like they’ve been improving with each series (particularly with the current one), but I can’t shake the feeling that it’s too family-friendly and not “Big Brothery” enough Now whilst there were many issues in the C5 era, I do look back and think that 5 out of 8 series were pretty decent (13/14/17/18/19), with 15 and 16 having their own moments too (12 was the only one that I actually found boring), and yet it still retained the “Big Brother” feeling that’s currently missing. It felt darker and grittier than the current era (although I’m still enjoying the ITV version) and I think many of C5 criticisms came from constant comparison to C4 BB, but now with hindsight and another channel doing their own version of the show, I cant help but look back on the C5 era more fondly Anyone else?

C5 era had a lot of highlights and they literally kept the show alive for years.... ITV's biggest problem is the short length of the series is really impacting how connected people get to the HM's, we barely have time to get to know them before we have to decide if we want to kick them out

C5 era put me off BB. I agree ITV BB needs to be longer though.

I was thinking about this too earlier actually and C5 was very good for CBB. They had some really good casts of diverse celebs which always seemed to deliver some great drama even if a lot of it was messy. Some of the civilian series were good too but the housemates were often too samey which let it down
It was definitely all a lot more unfiltered and less sanitised but media and culture have changed a lot even since C5 had BB |

C4 era i know, but just watching the first 5 mins of this video is night and day compared to modern BB, it's a completely different show. We will never, ever see anything like peak C4 era again.

I've definitely preferred the C5 era compared to ITV.
I wonder how much of the "BB Feel" is down to the BB House being the same in C5 and (most of) C4?

I do think ITV are making some improvements; this year's celeb has been a big step up on last year's IMO. The show was always going to be more toned on ITV1 as opposed to C5.

I'll be honest, when BB moved to C5 I lost interest for a number of years before getting back into it because I didn't care for the changes. When I watch ITV's version I find myself missing C5's version, and especially C4's version. ITV has gone the path of being overly edited, overly censored, and overly un-offensive. This does not work with what the concept of Big Brother is. While there are a few similarities ITV has made a completely different version of Big Brother. It is not the same show. I think change can be good, but ITV have veered down the wrong road a little too far. I also (unfortunately) don't think todays climate would allow for a Big Brother from 10-15+ years ago. The grittiness of the show as it was just wouldn't fly.
I've noticed some minor improvements this season (they've only messed with nominations twice so far). Also, ITV's durations are just pitiful. I honestly don't really rate ITV's vision of the show. |
