Default Tibb Big Brother Task 5: Tribute Thread: Robin Williams

As part of a task in Tibb Big Brother, i’ve made a thread dedicated to the hilarious and iconic Robin Williams. The goal of the task is to see how many posts i can get in this thread in 24 hours.

Robin Williams had so many classic movies. What’s some of your favourites? I myself would say Mrs Doubtfire or Jumanji for the nostalgia, i watched them ALOT when i was a kid but then there were some of his movies that kinda flew under the radar a little… anyone remember Toys?

Possibly controversial but I hated Mrs Doubtfire. Just too cheesy for me

Good Morning Vietnam was a good movie

I’ve actually never seen that one. Is that the one where he’s a radio host or something?

Yeah - its an old one (totally showing my age )

It always makes me sad when I think of him taking his own life though when he brought so much joy to many people through his movies

I forgot about GMV! I might have to rewatch...

I was OK on Mrs Doubtfire. We were forced to watch it over and over in school, so that might not have helped I found it to be a very moody comedy for me, which isn't my favorite. The funny parts were iconic. I can see why you would say it is cheesy, because of how the serious bits overlapped with the comedic areas and it felt like two movies. It was hard to take seriously, which is funny to say that because it's a comedy, but I good comedy makes people think and consider without them necessarily knowing they're thinking if that makes sense... the story felt forced to support the gender-swapping concept of the movie.

I myself loved Robin Williams. He had such a joyous personality. My favourite film is Dead Poets Society as it made a massive impact on me when I first saw it.

I found him more iconic as a person than the stuff he did in movies, etc. He had a special character to him.

…such a great choice for a tribute, jones……his was one of those celebrity deaths that really impact, in terms of celebrity he was such a bright light and I’ve read so many stories of how kind he was as a person…

…obviously he was a genius of comedy and making us all laugh …but for me, some of my favourite of his movies were when he played a more serious and even a very dark character…One Hour Photo, Insomnia…two really dark and intense performances from him and showing the stretch and reach of his acting talent, I guess…

Yes and I think not many will be able to appreciate it now as it was a different era. He effected the culture directly with his humor because he set a standard where many difficult topics could be tackled and the way he tackled it, it somehow made just about anyone feel better in the end... you wouldn't think his death didn't reflect his legacy, but it was the worst part... he had dementia and it effectively killed him. I remember his family talking about it. With his mind being different, maybe it's not surprising genetically also others things could've been lurking there that were "unique"...

‘Robin’s Wish’ Recap: Lewy Body dementia & Robin Williams’s legacy
https://www.alzsd.org/robins-wish-re...lliams-legacy/

Quote:
In 2014, Robin died from suicide, leaving his wife, Susan Williams, along with many others heartbroken and dumbfounded. He had past problems with substance abuse and struggled with depression, but was behaving in strange ways that Susan couldn’t understand. It wasn’t until a brain autopsy that things finally made sense when it was discovered that Robin Williams actually had one of the most severe cases of Lewy Body dementia (LBD) ever seen.

The story of what really happened to the star that resulted in this tragic end was told in the recent documentary Robin’s Wish.

Lewy Body dementia is a type of dementia that is “progressive, irreversible, and always fatal”, according to expert Dr. Bruce Miller. Abnormal deposits of the protein alpha-synuclein form masses called Lewy bodies that damage the brain. The disease increases anxiety, can cause hallucinations, mood swings, may negatively impact REM sleep, and can result in fluctuating levels of alertness and attention. Lewy body dementia can be hard to diagnose because Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease cause similar symptoms. Scientists think that LBD might be related to these diseases, or that they sometimes happen together.

Mrs Doubtfire will always be a classic of his. Dare I say One Hour Photo was one of his most best pieces too.

His Law and Order SVU was sooo good! He was evil in that episode. I wish they followed up with it but sadly he died

My favourite movie is good morning Vietnam or Jumanji.

But it was his stand up comedy that stood out for me.
