I don’t think he’s talking about the article per -se … more the idea they are spending oooodles on a ski resort whilst the side of the country is being bombed relentlessly by the Ruskies

Well I thought it might be that, but I am assuming if someone is confused as to why, enough to make a thread about it, they'd read the article and would see the answers in there which would clear up the confusion as to why/how money is being spent on a ski resort despite the war.

Not that it was planned before the war took hold? And most importantly, not the fact that a private company purchased the land and is funding the construction? You can't see how any of that is relevant enough to alter your opinion it's a ridiculous scenario? People not reading things for context and forming opinions off of headlines is frankly idiotic and devalue their opinions instantly. Last edited by BBXX; 25-06-2025 at 02:07 PM. |

Tax money has always included international aid, that doesn't mean all of that country's private companies have to donate profits to fund defence, otherwise there would be no economy left once the war is over...how is a country supposed to survive that.

God forbid a country tried to rebuild itself. A lot of the aid to Ukraine isn't pure cash, you realise, when they say we've donated 5 billion, a chunk of that would be the value of the products we send, such as missiles and a lot of it is actually a loan in which they have to pay back once it's rebuilt itself. They can't do this is their economy is ****ed. |

I assume the Russian invasion ended? [The construction of the GORO Mountain ski resort has started in the Lviv region, which will build 25 hotels, 5,500 rooms stretching across a total area of 2,965 acres, with 41 46.6-mile-long ski slopes with 846 acres of snow cove, over 10 miles of ski lifts, two modern gondola lifts and 11 chairlifts.] |

It's a ski resort, a ski resort for the privileged..It has absolutely no place being built while a war is going on, a war being funded by the rest of the world whilst they whittle away billions on vanity projects.. It may please you, but it don't please me. |

That's fine, I personally am not a communist and believe in capitalism and believe private companies have a right to invest in things without Government interference.

I would have thought that the armed forces and those innocent towns and villages would appreciate all the manpower and money for the ongoing war against the Russians NOW Bet those being bombed all day and night weren’t best pleased to hear about the ski resort Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Private investment will be extremely important to Ukraine's recovery when the war is over. The government has no money, is entirely reliant on aid and loans, and will be massively in debt at the end of this

…indeed…and it’s quite a risk still that the company who are developing the resort are taking and putting much needed employment etc and investment into the economy over the next 15 years so good luck to them…

‘This large-scale investment signals confidence in Ukraine’s future and the resilience of its economy. With the first hotel complex already under development, the resort is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy by creating jobs and attracting tourists. It also represents a broader effort to prepare the country for post-war recovery by enhancing its infrastructure and hospitality sector.
While Ukraine remains focused on defending its sovereignty, projects like this demonstrate a commitment to resilience and long-term growth. The Carpathian Mountains have long been known for their breathtaking landscapes, and this development could establish the region as a premier travel destination in Eastern Europe. Despite the ongoing conflict, the determination to build for the future is clear. The new resort is not just an investment in tourism but a symbol of Ukraine’s unwavering spirit and hope for better days ahead.’ |

…it shows a real confidence that they will and more investments will help so much in the people building their country again and providing employment, which will be so much needed…

Life has to continue as normal otherwise the country will cease to be. These ares are around 350-400 miles apart from one another. Imagine Glasgow being bombed and developments continue in London. The West of Ukraine is being redeveloped significantly - this is to ensure continuation of trade, future tourism and a way to secure its future economics. |
