Default Should it be made illegal for doctors to strike?

I'm very interested in hearing your points of view on this. It's a bit of a hot potato as doctors would be outraged but my instinctive reaction is to say yes, it should be illegal for doctors to strike.

Would love to hear any similar or different thoughts on this topic.

I'll add a poll. Single choice.

…no I don’t think that it should, the physical care of loved ones is so much in the hands of the medical profession…if those hands have a voice, then it should be listened to and any concerns be resolved as best they can be/not forced …I can’t see that being a path to good/best care…

No, doctors are not like the armed forces. However, the unions that are representing the medical professionals need to take a long, hard look at themselves, because I don't believe doctors and nurses really want to strike

I'm unsure tbh.

I personally like to see workers be able to strike if they're really unhappy with something.

However in this case, it's obviously a very important job that everyone will rely on at some point in our lives.

Having strike drama could lead to some of the Doctors being unavailable or not fully focused on their patients.

No, absolutely not, NEVER.

Those advocating yes would then probably be willing to risk most or near all Doctors leaving to go to other countries.
It would be a dangerously dictatorial and despicable move to ban them striking.

…having said this, I’m really not sure that ‘strike culture’ …(…in any sector…)…has a place or is effective in current society and the now world and many employees can find their unions not always helpful when needed…so ‘alternative actions/negotiations’ could also be looked at that could give continued care…

Kemi says:

Doctors hold lives in their hands. No one should lose critical healthcare because
of strikes but that’s what’s happening now.

That’s why a Conservative government led by me would ban doctors’ strikes,
just like we do the army and police.

The BMA have always been a byword for Trade Union militancy and the folk at the top are leftist rabble rousers.

That's definitely a fair point Joey about the Doctors possibly choosing to leave the country.

3 of my family left in the times of the previous Conservative government's despicable treatment of the then Junior Doctors, now termed Resident Doctors, from 2016 onwards.

The 3 of my family went to New Zealand, then 2 of them settled in Australia.
Where they are treated with respect and have far better conditions plus far better income for their vitally skillful and dedicated work too.

They'd now NEVER come back to the UK.
If people here and government keep disrespecting them, treating them with contempt and expecting more and more work while not paying them properly for ALL the lives Doctors help save.
Then more and more WILL leave the UK.
They already are doing so.

Maybe IF more of them do get up and leave, people here may then end up screaming but way too late, that they SHOULD have been treated far better and respected far more too.
IF I was a now Resident Doctor, I'd be planning to be on a plane within weeks to get out of the UK.
No hesitation whatsoever.

…I think added to that loss through moving and practising overseas, Joey…?…then a lot more will further train to go into a private medicine field…

I do understand where you're coming from.

A Doctor is one of the, most important people in any society imo, we do need to value them more.
