Young males are involved in the majority of accidents. What's being done about them? Anything?

Tougher penalties for people without insurance is long overdue.

Eyesight is important in driving and even moreso now these days.

Nothing wrong in ensuring sight is in good order.
So the plan is to have over 70s get their sight tested every 3 years I believe.
That's fine I'd say.

Actually I've heard opticians recommend sight testing at least every 2 years for those 70 and over.

The question of uninsured drivers is an important one. Every uninsured driver is a potential hit and run and there should be an immediate lengthy ban for anyone driving uninsured.

Currently, anyone over 70 has to re-apply for their driving licence every 3 years. Anyone who wears glasses gets a reminder every 2 years to get their eyes tested. Anyone of any age that goes to the doctor for an ailment that could affect their ability to drive, gets informed by the doctor not to drive.

To be insured to drive, you must declare any circumstances that affect your ability to drive. If you don't, the insurance won't pay up and you will end up in court

So, really, normal processes ensure that you are fit to drive, whatever age you are. Sending a verification you have had an eye test really isn't a big deal, it basically happens by default now. So making it mandatory is also not a big deal, because everyone is basically doing it already.

Also, eye tests are free for over 60's

…I was reading that this wouldn’t be the only suggested change…/mandatory eye tests for over 70’s…reducing the drink/driving limit is also being looked at an ‘Alcolocks’ in vehicles being driven by previously convicted drunk drivers…much more harsh penalties for uninsured drivers, a possible ‘minimum learning period of 6 months’ for new drivers and a crackdown on illegal number plates…I think it’s been reported for quite a while that there was going to be big changes in this area and the mandatory eye tests for older drivers is just one of those changes…

They'd better not reduce the drink driving limits, will be another nail in the coffin of pubs and restaurants

You're right there's several things being looked at.
Actually overall I support anything and everything to make roads safer.

I drive a lot and get really irate at a lot of other drivers, who haven't it seems a clue how they should even indicate.
In fact I often wonder how they passed their tests.

I do support fully eye testing, nothing at all wrong with ensuring those driving vehicles have good sight.
There is also consideration being made to look at reducing the alcohol limit as to driving in England/ Wales to the levels they are in Scotland.
Speaking for myself obviously, I'd make the alcohol limit zero.
I don't think anyone drinking alcohol should be driving and in charge of a vehicle.
