Last night's rating was only 5.1 million, the least watched live launch ever.
BBC News nearly beat the launch by getting 5 million viewers. It's going to all be downhill from now on. Surely, this is a disasterous rating? Absolutely terrible. Is it likely that Channel 4 now will not renew the contract and end with BB11, or even try and force Endemol to end it after BB10 by paying compensation. |

No it's not because it didn't get poor ratings 5m is still good for BB considering it's been going for 10 years, and as long as the HL shows stay above 3m we should be fine.

The other weeks Grand Design and Night at the Museum both got over 4 million. The gap in difference is small now between BB and the other shows. |

A big Big Brother man said earlier in the week that it'll keep going as long as it's over 4m didn't he?
Everyone's always saying this but we'll just have to wait and see if they mention auditions later on in the year won't we? and if they do IM GOING hahaha |

It also won its timeslot between each of the networks, so it did well. Just because it didn't get 7 million doesn't mean it still can't be seen as a success. |

5m is a good rating for any show. And its channel 4's best rated show.

The launch ratings were really good really.
It got 5.1m!! 2008 slot average: 2.2m (10.5%) - 2009 slot average: 1.8m (8.1%) The launch was 3.3m more than this years slot average. |

Now it ccan barely get 5 million for launch. They must be disappointed by the decline in ratings, hence why so many people at C4 have said it will end: Angela Jain, George Lamb, etc. Yes, it's well above the slot average. But it always has been, and usually by a bigger distance. And also it didn't win its slot. BBC News got 5.0 million, BB got 4.9 million on Channel 4. Fact./ |

The British government is collapsing before our very eyes. Of course people are going to watch the news more for christ sake. It is election weekend. Five million launch or six million launch, it still won it's slot. And yes, other shows come close to Big Brother's average rating on Channel 4, but are they on every night of the week? Are they half as effortless to produce? Does Come Dine With Me grab the upmarket teenage audience Channel 4 needs for advertising revenue? I doubt it, somehow.
As for Channel 4's contract with Big Brother, they must have known ratings would drop sooner or later. Nothing is stopping them from renewing the contract but for a smaller sum of money. Big Brother is still a monster of a television brand. It's not just one show either. Two additional shows directly attatched to the format do well for E4. This thread fails. |

I've been a BB fan since BB1 and had to ask a friend a couple of weeks ago, when the launch would be as I'd not seen any adds for it on TV

You also have to remember how they have cut back on BB this year. Last night was a bad night for TV but tonight we have the apprentice and again on Sunday, if they pull in 3 million against those programmes I will be surprised. |

It's like saying Big Brother is the same show as Survivor and Shipwrecked, among others. The ratings are fine. Channel 4 needn't be worried. |
