But what about the Solid Men Only Comedy Teams that do not need a additional Women Writer adding pink dresses? Last edited by arista; 18-06-2019 at 03:07 PM. |

Adding pink dresses? I don't understand what you mean here in regards to writing comedy? Or was this your attempt at some sort of sexist humour? If so I wouldn't be applying yourself to be one of the writing teams

Pink used to be a manly colour before the trashy 1950s generation cane about and brought with them rigid gender dichotomy. Did you know that?

Yawn. For all she knows she could be excluding the next Monty Python, all to signal about how 'inclusive' they're being.
The only question that should be asked is 'how much money will they make us?' Discriminating based on gender is just wrong. Last edited by Oliver_W; 18-06-2019 at 03:12 PM. |

My understanding was that she reviewed the content and it was male centric. She then looked at the writers and there were 5 * as many male writers selected compared to women. Thats not a balanced situation.

Why can't a woman be part of the next "Monty Python"?

There could well be. Luckily such a team would be given the light, while a possible equally brilliant team will be discriminated against for their collective gender.

Comedy is a massively gender biassed area when it comes to women being fairly dealt with and represented. Sometimes intervention is needed to kick things into modern times

A comedy which has great commercial potential and has a sense of humour which has wider subjectivity should come before something more niche, regardless of which genders have written which. |

Arguably Cleese's best work, Faulty towers, was co-written with his wife a long time ago, so he had no issue with it.

No, and that's obviously not what I meant.
There could be an amazing comedy writing team, poised to make their pitch for ITV ... but they wouldn't even be considered, due to their gender. Discrimination. |

She's had a very male centric slate of commissions, so now wants to broaden the range of content so is requesting a more gender balanced input. It's the entire opposite of discrimination. She hasn't put a big sign up saying "No Men!!" More TV execs need to take a long hard look at their entire output and see what is repetitive and very samey and work towards broadening the range of voices being given the opportunity to add their voices to the choir. More diversity is only a good thing, not just for opening up opportunities for more talent behind the scenes, but also giving the viewer a wider range of products to enjoy. If everyone writing for TV comes from the same backgrounds/experiences, you're going to get an extremely vanilla output. Last edited by Marsh.; 18-06-2019 at 07:33 PM. |

If you can't win fairly, then you may as well cheat.

Then I guess we should keep it as a meritocracy and leave it at that.
