Spot on, BB_Eye.
This is a Japanese song everybody learns at elementary school.

I remember some years ago, I took my home town's friend's niece to a hotel who was going back to Japan after finished studying in London as she wanted to have traditional afternoon tea.

Somebody was playing piano, the type of soft melodies.
Then suddenly he started play international well known songs, like "Tie me kangaroo down sport" for Australian. The hotel must had many overseas visitors like us.

Then he started play this "A song of sea shore". It was totally unexpected specially here in a foreign country far away from home, this song made us ended in tears. We were having champaign so it did not help. We were totally emotional.

It was really embarrassing for both of us but we would never forget the day and this song.

JJ Cale is quality. Very laid back style and never allows for any self indulgence in his songs, with the average length of a composition being about 3 mins. Gets in, lays the track and done. No messing about with him.

I'm jealous for the fact you have cool parents. My mum and dad only ever listened to motown with a casual interest in the Beatles. Since then, they probably only buy one CD a year. Even the Beach Boys is 'noisy' to them.

I used to try and get them interested in other stuff, even from their own era, but I think the older you get, the more you tend to just to stick to what you've always liked. I think that explains why there are a lot of generation gaps when it comes to music.

Well, I wouldn't say cool but I got a healthy mix of influences from them. My mother loves classical, singer/songwriters and alternative stuff, while my father was more into rhythm and beats, like Abba and the Bee Gees lol. So yeah, not a bad mix of cool and kinda kitschy stuff.

It's weird the affect being away from home can have on people. And that just goes for students moving to the other end of the country. Nevermind 6000 miles away. I'm sure you wouldn't have been half as embarrassed as the Australians in the room for having to hear Rolf Harris. ;)

I did post these two yesterday or the day before. Both medieval pieces.

This one is from a medieval liturgical drama, the Play of Daniel, scored by a now unknown composer. I highly recommend the CD by conductor Michael Popp just to give him a plug. :p

It must be unusual marrying a complete stranger. Having said that, for a lot of couples, the happy honeymoon period seems to be over before they even wed.

Ashamedly, I only own Osmo Vanska's recording of the 7th and 9th with the Minnesota Orchestra (which are just okay) as well as Bernard Haitink's excellent live recording of Symphony no. 3 with the London Symphony Orchestra.

You can't go wrong with Karajan. His Beethoven 9th is possibly my number 1 favourite.

My mother came over to England when she was 69 in 1979.
This is copy from PJ's "Most Embarrassing thing your parents have done?" (2 Feb 2010) I posted.

[My late mother visited England years ago.

My husband took her to tea dance with us. She never danced before, never wore high (lowest) heel shoes before.
He asked her to dance. Surprisingly she said yes!!
She could not walk well with the shoes never mind dancing.
Within few steps of cha cha cha, she lost balance and fall down the floor laughing. I was not.

One day we tried to cross a road.
A car stopped for us so we started to walk.
My mother suddenly stopped at the middle of the road and bowed deeply to the driver.:blush2:]

This is only one song I can remember associated with my mother.

I never realised she was that old . I see (google), I always assumed the I Love Lucy's heyday was the early 60's, but it appears most of the people who saw the show, saw it a decade or more later than its original run. One of the first shows to be successful as a repeat. You learn something new everyday.

I wish they would repeat this show more often. I'd happily watch it over Friends any day. Guess I'll have to buy the DVD's.

Yeah, their music is a very nice combination of guitar-based rock and their local traditions. It had such a great laid-back, cheerful vibe.

They even do music festivals for this sort of thing. Guess I'd have to take plenty of sunblock. :p

I see (google), I always assumed the I Love Lucy's heyday was the early 60's,
I forgot to mention something when we were talking about Lucy Show.
When you have pointed it out about 60s, I closely looked at her fashion, and I remembered something about fashion.

(I am the youngest and have two elder sisters, one is 15 years, other is 10 years older than me as I was born after my father came back from the War.)
When I was very young, I adored older women like my sisters were wearing flare skirt as they looked ever so elegant, I was dying to become adult so that I could wear them myself.
But by the time I was old enough, these became so old fashioned, already young girls started to wear mini skirt. I was extremely disappointed I remembered.

This music reminds me of "Last Night" or school's athlete day? (I do not know how you call it in English).

I noticed we had two CAB near I work.
One is just few buildings away, in the High Court, Family division (this one I knew it as I had been there before), other one, I just saw it in a Holborn Library as recently I started to change a walking route.
The library seemed to be interesting, they have free access computer for members

Cool, they must be quite closely huddled together in London. Around here, they're just scattered around various towns. Some are better than others. Which one you use is all a matter of luck, sadly. But I think I ended up working at one of the better ones.

I recently asked to use the computers in Sheffield's main library when I visited there and got lost (wanted to use google maps). They were running on Windows 2000  and needless to say, I could hardly get them to run the application.

Tales of the Unexpected
Oc46Gk-6qrA&feature=related

Ref: Wikipedia
Tales Of The Unexpected is a British (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/wiki/United_Kingdom) television (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/wiki/Television) series originally aired between 1979 and 1988.Initially episodes were based on the short stories by Roald Dahl (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/wiki/Roald_Dahl). The stories were sometimes sinister, sometimes wryly comedic, and usually had a twist ending (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/wiki/Twist_ending).
The upbeat theme music for the series was written by the prolific film and television composer Ron Grainer (http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/wiki/Ron_Grainer).

Yes originally this is a very old music.

I just remembered when I was at kindergarten, the record player was not electric, and a teacher (nursery nurse?) had to wind handle constantly so that music would not go slow down also she had to change a record needle often as well.

PCipea9xEXE&feature=related

Extract from the above dvd comment.
This is running too fast for shure. Also the steel needle has to be changed after every play or it can cause serious record damage. Newer record players use a diamond tiped needle so they will not wear out after just one play. Never try to play anything but 78's on this machine. If you try to play vinyl records on this the steel needle with damage the record.

That is unusual. I bet some of the kids might have thought it was a toy. I feel for the nurse who must have had a very boring mundane job if she had to keep this music going everyday.

I remember in the 1990's, local radio stations would play records at a much higher tempi than normal (possibly in a higher key also). I guess they must have been using a record player with adjustable speeds. Stuff like that can really ruin a song

Last Saturday my neighbour came to watch Strictly Come Dancing as usual.
Robbie Williams was a guest singer, when he started to sing, she started to sing as well.
As I have never heard (or never noticed) the song myself before, also she was older than myself, I was very surprised she knew it.
I asked her how did she know it and she said from a radio.

I realised I do not listen to any music station. I listen to Radio 4 if I have a chance (gardening etc.) not because I like it but I am trying to improve my English (still!!!) as I remembered an English tutor encouraged foreign students to listen to it years ago.

I like XFactor or BGT, that sort of programme. They are the only chance I can hear new music. (and café background music.)

Of course I know who is Robbie Williams or Take That but not their songs.
I just checked with Youtube, and I thought I found one but it was My Way. But some of his songs were not bad at all.

This is only one example. I must be missing all sort of music I never realised they exist.

That is why I like to listen to other members music, classic, pop, rock or any type, at least I would love to listen.

I just checked with Youtube, and I thought I found one but it was My Way. But some of his songs were not bad at all.

This is only one example. I must be missing all sort of music I never realised they exist.

That is why I like to listen to other members music, classic, pop, rock or any type, at least I would love to listen.

:spin: Its Robbie Williams not Robin Williams.

Pathos
Because of violin or Romanian music?
Was looking for anything folky, then I just lost the motivation and posted that instead. I have a lot of respect for Bartok, but rarely listen to him for pleasure. His folk dances are more traditionally musical though.

Their fashion and make up!
They have a beautiful voice, actually I thought they were mimicking and not opera singers, more like porno actresses.

Nevertheless I liked the music.

Either copy and paste the set of characters that come after http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= or press the 'Embed' button under the video and copy the more lengthy embed code. Go advanced with your post, press the YouTube button and simply paste it there.

The end result should look something like this...
[ YT ]0Wv3Ya9nskA[ /YT ]
but without the spaces.

I do indeed, I'm a poet/writer, well trying to establish myself :)

But that is how I encountered Philip Glass, Ludovico Einaudi, Laurie Anderson, Hybrid etc. We had a project that involved research into them at uni :)
