Just been told by someone quite in the know that Lewis is seriously gonna leave McLaren. I was told to 'expect a mutual decision statement before India'.
Can't say it's shocking really, he peaked with his World Title Year. Get Massa out of Ferrari, Lewis in there, Kimi in McLaren and Massa in Williams. Simples.

He didn't, but Red Bull is confirmed to have Mark and Seb back so it wont be there. Apparently he just wants out of McLaren. I dunno how true this is, I'll talk to him again tomorrow so I'll find out more of what he knows then....

Button's very much a man of good fortune and timing. His first win was when Alsonso and Schumacher took each other out.
His world title win was with a huge advantage from BRAWN not him (as you can see by his mid season decline) Since then he's only won changeable race conditioned races.... he's good but he's definitely no Lewis.....

They said in the commentary that Button has had the most overtakes this year, but that is partly due to qualifying low down on the grid and having to make recovery drives.
Lewis' qualifying pace is nearly always better than Jenson, as is Vettel over Webber and Alonso over Massa.

Not sure where Lewis could go to meet his expectations if Red Bull have confirmed contracts. Can't see him and Alonso wanting to be team-mates again, which would be the other option.

I can't see it happening. There is no way Lewis is going to play second fiddle to Alonso. I think Lewis will be there for at least 1 more season.

I think Jenson and Lewis are pretty much of the same ability. Yes his world championship was down to Brawn but you can't say he didn't drive the socks off that car once the rest of the pack caught up. Once Jenson finds the right balance in a car i don't think there is anyone who could out drive him apart from Vettle.

Outdriving Schumacher while he's at Mercedes is easy. I do believe he only got 1 win when Michael was at Ferrari :idc: funny how hw only became champion of the back of massive rule changes. And I agree he's good in changeable conditions but since his move to McLaren he's suffered in dry conditions, he needs weather to help him or people to crash..

LEWIS HAMILTON'S F1 rivals want a special meeting in Japan this weekend to discuss his gung-ho style of racing.
Brit Hamilton's thrilling but aggressive approach has seen him hit with a clutch of penalties.
Now his fellow racers want talks with the FIA's Race Director Charlie Whiting before Sunday's Grand Prix at Suzuka.
The meeting is due to discuss Hamilton's tactics this season. But he won immediate backing from former McLaren partner Heikki Kovalainen.
The Finn, now at Lotus, has tweeted: "Are all drivers attending a 'special meeting' in Japan about Hamilton's driving? I'm not, I have no problem."
McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh said: "Brave drivers get under the skin of other drivers. Lewis is not here to make friends with them. He is here to win races."

Lewis Hamilton has welcomed the news that Jenson Button has signed a multi-year deal to stay with McLaren.
Button joined McLaren on the back of his world championship success with Brawn GP - now Mercedes GP - and the Briton has enjoyed a good relationship with Hamilton.
Both drivers were involved in a thrilling championship in 2010, which was eventually won by Sebastian Vettel, but they have endured mixed fortunes this season with Button currently second in the standings.
The 2009 world champion had made it clear he wanted to extend his stay and Hamilton is pleased he has finally put pen to paper on a new contract.
"It's great news that Jenson has chosen to stay with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes," he said. "Jenson has been a great person to work with, and a genuine team-player, from the moment we welcomed him on board.
"Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is a team with a unique and successful tradition in Formula 1, which I'm proud to be part of.
"It was the best moment of my career when I won the drivers' world championship with this team. Jenson and I are as hungry and as ambitious as ever to win races and world championships in the future."
Button is staying

In my view, this week's announcement that Formula One has added New Jersey to the 2013 racing calendar is more puzzling than troubling. The Grand Prix of America, as it's to be called, is to run on a street circuit in Weehawken and West New York, with the Manhattan skyline serving as a dramatic backdrop. Neat.
The event is not to be confused with the U.S. Grand Prix, which has been confirmed for next season in Austin, Tex., at a purpose-built track now under construction.
So there you have it - the promise of two additional GPs in the next two years in a market that has failed to embrace F1 despite repeated attempts to woo the American public over the years. In other words, it remains to be seen whether one or both of these ventures will survive any longer than the last run of the U.S. GP at Indianapolis, from 2000 to 2007.
The Canadian event, meanwhile, has been a staple of F1 since 1967, settling on Île Notre Dame in 1978 and playing to packed grandstands year after year.
Significantly, New Jersey has been pencilled in for June. That will require a costly return trip to North America by the European-based teams for their Texas engagement in November. Normally, races in the same geographic region are staged on consecutive weekends to save on transportation costs. Why come back twice?
You can bet Bernie Ecclestone, the man holding the purse strings, has a bigger plan in mind.
Look again: New Jersey in June, right after Montreal. Texas in November, right before Brazil. Bernie gets his two-for-one - twice over.
Seen from this perspective, New Jersey doesn't look like such a threat, after all. If anything, it might help cement Montreal's status as a relatively cheap F1 destination worth keeping. Anyway, it's all speculation. The Canadian GP has a contract through 2014, and anything can happen after that. But local promoter François Dumontier doesn't sound alarmed.
"I don't think another Grand Prix, six hours from Montreal, threatens our event," he was quoted as saying Thursday. "On the contrary, our role is to optimize the two races that will take place within a week of one another in June."
Makes sense, and cents.
Speaking of new venues: F1 goes racing in India this weekend for the first time.
Narain Karthikeyan, India's first F1 driver, said the event at the justcompleted Buddh International Circuit near New Delhi is going to be an eye-opener in a country with no tradition of top-tier motor racing.
"Driving in front of the home crowd cheering you on is a once-ina-lifetime experience and I feel extremely fortunate," said Karthikeyan, 34, a reservist with Hispania Racing Team who has been given a race seat for the occasion. "It's going to be a surreal experience. There is a huge buzz around the Grand Prix and I'm sure that it'll be a resounding success. For sure, I'll race hard and try to get a good result for myself and the team."
In F1, though, good results are relative. HRT has yet to score a point since its inception in 2010. Karthikeyan said his supporters will have to be patient.
"Everyone is expecting me to do well, but it's going to be hard to explain to the Indian public why you're at the back of the grid," he said. "Nevertheless, I think they'll enjoy it."
Karun Chandhok, F1's other reserve driver from India, is not so cheerful. He, too, had been expected to be promoted to the starting grid. But Team Lotus decided otherwise.
"Everyone knows the most important and emotional race for any driver is their home race, and particularly so in my case," Chandhok, 27, told Autosport. "I've been involved with the project since the track was an empty piece of land. I'm obviously disappointed that I won't be on the grid for the first Indian Grand Prix."
Team Lotus says it's sticking with veteran driver Jarno Trulli because it is fighting for 10th place in the constructors' championship with HRT and Virgin, also scoreless.

Near the end of his second season since returning to formula one, Michael Schumacher is finally topping the charts once again.
Germany’s Sport1 reports that the seven time world champion ranks first on the list of drivers when it comes to performance on the opening lap of grands prix this year.
The report said the 42-year-old German has recorded no fewer than 42 overtaking moves on lap 1 so far in 2011, which is more than ten passes ahead of F1’s second-best, Sebastien Buemi.
Third is the exciting Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi, with 23 first-lap moves.
“Schumacher is getting better,” said Niki Lauda, “but no one is interested because he doesn’t have a competitive car.
“I hope that is different next year. Then we can watch it again from scratch.”
It should be noted, of course, that drivers who qualify exceptionally well are unlikely to feature highly in the first-lap overtaking ranking, like Sebastian Vettel.
The back to back world champion has started from pole an astonishing 13 times out of the 17 races so far, meaning he has only passed two drivers on the first lap all season.
Schumacher’s teammate Nico Rosberg insists he has been the better driver in 2011.
“If you look at who has got the most points, that’s me, and if you look at who is most often ahead in the race, that’s me as well,” said the German.
“It is not true that he (Schumacher) is faster in the race. For sure he is closer in the race than he is in qualifying, but it is not true that he is faster,” Rosberg insisted.
The Rosberg-Schumacher tussle aside, veteran engineer Joan Villadelprat insists the bigger picture is much more crucial at Mercedes.
“There are many people who analyse that Ferrari’s performance has been unacceptable for a team of its calibre,” he wrote in the El Pais newspaper.
“From my point of view there is a more pressing case — Mercedes.
“2012 will be their third season, they have invested a fortune and the officials are not going to keep injecting millions if the effort does not translate.
“A premium brand such as theirs can only be in the fight for victory, which at the moment is an unrealistic goal. Mercedes cannot afford to be associated with the grid’s middle class,” added Villadelprat.

Ferrari is considering replacing the gearbox in Felipe Massa's car before the start of the United States Grand Prix.
The Brazilian is set to line-up sixth on the grid at Austin, two places ahead of team-mate Fernando Alonso, but his engineers are understood to be concerned about the state of his gearbox.
A Ferrari spokesman confirmed that the Italian outfit was looking closely at the matter, but said that no final decision had been made.
"We are evaluating the situation right now," the spokesman said.
A penalty for Massa would lead to a five-place grid penalty and drop him down to 11th of the grid.
However, the move would prove to be a bonus for Alonso, who would move up one place to seventh - which is crucially on to the cleaner side of the grid.
Massa, who would also move to the cleaner side of the grid, had warned on Saturday night that those drivers starting on the dirty side would be at a big disadvantage.
"I think it will be the biggest difference you ever saw at a start," said Massa. "It will be massive. This morning I did the start on the left, and I was slower than in the wet."
