Yeah it was.
Skynews and BBC wont show it now anymore in case he dies. I remember the uproar when they basically showed Senna die live on TV, they dont want to be blamed for showing the crash that may cause a fatal injury....I hope it doesn't happen though...:sad::sad::sad:

if thats what his head looks like where the spring hit i can only imagine whats going on out of sight under that helmet the fact the visor didnt break means that effectively his helmet punched him in the head at 170 mph under however many g he would be under
i agree iceman its not looking good for his long term racing future

Poor Massa I mean whatever your going to say about Hamilton winning last year, Massa was unlucky on a couple of occassions: pit stop debacle, last lap Brazil. I think he should have been champion lasyt year and always will, I think it's a shame that he may never get the opportunity to become F1 Champion and be up there with the likes of Senna....

obviously i'm gonna say hamilton should have got it like he did but massa raced a really good season last year even when kimi was seemingly in the early stages of giving up and had those things not happened to massa then i agree he would have got champion

For the last 3 seasons it has gone down to the wire and it has benn great and by the looks of things now its heading that way again.
I bet poor Rubens feels guilty for this.......

yep the past couple seasons have been really good where there is racing til the end
i'll bet he does even though nothing he could have done to stop it so do we think this is the unravelling of brawn that we have all been waiting to come?

I think Brawn will struggle to win another race this season, if Lewis plays it cool tomorrow and waits until lap 2-3 before he attacks he will win, he's always too aggressive at first corner as proved in the last race.....

If you calculate that it's a massive blow to the head at that speed im actually surprised he was consciou at all now...
I think they are going to have to redesign the helmet now completely.
Especially with Surtees dying last week and now Massa with this trauma. I think they need to blast stuff at the helmets becuase the way they test them is to drop them from heights and calculate speed.

i'm no good at working out all the mass speed distance stuff but he was going fast and i'm guessing from the vid the spring was travelling pretty fast too so would have hit him with considerable force

just read this
There is contrasting news on his condition. While Ferrari and Felipe's personal doctor say Felipe's situation is serious but under control, news leaked from the hospital is more worrying: Felipe had suffered a skull fracture with brain damage, the seriousness of which is yet to be evaluated. A clearer idea about the actual conditions of massa will probably be available tomorrow. and i also read that he has eye damage

yeah we def not getting all the story i also just read but closed the window before copy and pasting that apparently barrichello was worried something was coming away near the beginning of qualie if thats the case why did he stay out if thats the case brawn/barrichello could be facing a huge law suit
also ferrai is a italian team and the italian laws are very very strict over stuff like this they still even all these still trying to sort out after sennas crash

SkyNews just reprted that he has 2 fractures to the skull and the piece of debris weighed 1kg = roughly 2 pounds.
They will also have an eyewitness on sportsline at 10.30 if you're interested.
Yeah all the stuff with Senna will never be fully known, there is more footage that is being held back and everyone knows it, it just doesn't dissappear....

Yes Sportsline is on SkyNews at 10.30 they will have Massa as top story, they have Massa as the second main headline so they are sticking with it albeit a little behind......
Most other news sources ive read are ahead of them. I just looked at wikipedia and they havent changed his page they said he's fine, just proves the point that wiki is a useless waste of space...

yeah i looked on the ferrai site and last i saw was he had the op and was doing ok
the first 48 hours after a head injury are the most critical remember when hammond had his crash and the first couple days there was so many different reports coming out and also remember that woman recently who had the sking accident and was up talking and stuff not long after then detiriated very very quickly cos there is pics of massa waving from the stretcher

Massa to miss Hungarian Grand Prix after undergoing surgery Ferrari’s Felipe Massa will not race in Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix following his high-speed qualifying crash at the Hungaroring, the team have confirmed. Massa was airlifted to AEK Hospital in Budapest, where he is in a stable condition.
“Felipe was conscious at the arrival at the hospital,” said a Ferrari statement, adding that Massa had suffered a cut on his forehead, concussion and a bone lesion of the skull. Massa underwent surgery to treat these conditions, the outcome of which was positive. He will now remain under observation in intensive care.
The Brazilian speared off the track and into the tyre wall at Turn 4 late in the Q2 session after a rear damper spring that had come loose from the Brawn car of Rubens Barrichello struck his helmet.
Medics were quickly in attendance and the start of Q3 was delayed as they extricated the Brazilian. After initial examinations at the medical centre, Massa, eighth fastest in Q2, was transferred to hospital for further treatment.
Ferrari are expected to release an update on Massa's condition on Sunday morning.

i just got this from the bbc
"During the course of his examination they established that he suffered a serious, life-threatening injuries including loss of consciousness and a fracture of the forehead on the left side and a fracture on the base of the skull."
its bad enough the forehead fracture cos thats the area that memory and so on can be affected as in the case of richard hammond but a base of skull fracture is pretty serious more so than the forehead one they will be trying to bring him round tomorrow out of the medically induced coma but it can take at least a week for the swelling to die down enough to have even any idea of what you are properly dealing with (again back to hammonds crash)
oh and i have just been reading and some people are saying that while it fell off barrichellos car it seemed to come from off the track i cant believe conspiracy theorists are out in force already while a man lays critical in hospital

Felipe Massa’s condition was described as ‘stable’ on Sunday morning, with Ferrari confirming that there were no complications overnight following the Brazilian’s successful surgery for a skull fracture at Budapest’s AEK Hospital.
Massa sustained the fracture and concussion during his high-speed crash at the Hungaroring in Saturday’s qualifying session, in which he was struck on the head by a spring from the Brawn car of Rubens Barrichello.
After surgery he was put into an induced coma, a standard procedure following such an operation, and remained under observation in intensive care overnight.
"After undergoing an operation yesterday afternoon, Felipe Massa's condition remains stable and there were no further complications through the night,” said a Ferrari statement.
"He will be given another CT scan today, which will provide more precise information."

Giancarlo Fisichella will race for Ferrari at the remaining five rounds of 2009 after Force India agreed to release him from his contract on Thursday. Fisichella will replace Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer as stand-in for the injured Felipe Massa, starting at next weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. He will then serve as Ferrari's reserve driver in 2010.
Force India have yet to confirm who will take over from Fisichella alongside Adrian Sutil in the team’s number 21 car, though third driver Vitantonio Liuzzi is already being tipped to succeed his fellow Italian.
“We've chosen Fisichella because we can expect him to make a valuable contribution in this final part of the season,” said Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali. “Giancarlo has shown throughout his long career that he's fast and competitive and we are therefore proud to be able to run an Italian driver in our home race.”
Fisichella, who scored Force India’s first-ever pole position, points and podium at last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix after finishing a close second to Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, commented: “I am very grateful to (Force India boss) Vijay Mallya for allowing me this opportunity to drive for the Scuderia Ferrari team.
“It is true that it has always been an ambition to do this, and for Vijay to have allowed it to become a reality is very generous. I hope in my turn I have helped Force India grow up and be on the right path to achieve their own ambitions. They are now a very competitive team and I wish them all the very best.”
Badoer was drafted in by Ferrari after Massa fractured his skull in a qualifying accident at July’s Hungarian Grand Prix. However, the 38-year-old Italian struggled to get to grips with the F60 in a race environment, prompting the team to seek an alternative as they chase third place in the constructors’ championship.
“We wish to thank Luca Badoer for the team spirit he demonstrated in these circumstances,” added Domenicali. “It is a shame he was unable to show his true worth in these last two races, tackled under conditions which anyone would have found difficult.”
Mallya said he had made the decision to release his driver for the good of Fisichella and of Formula One racing, and not in exchange for any financial settlement. He also hinted that the 36-year-old’s Ferrari deal extends beyond 2009, suggesting a possible testing role for the Roman next season.
“For any Italian driver, a Ferrari race seat is a long-held dream and for Giancarlo it was no exception,” said Mallya. “No one should stand in the way of this. Furthermore the agreement will secure Giancarlo's long-term future with Ferrari and it would be incorrect to jeopardise this. A competitive Italian driver in a Ferrari for Monza is a positive story for Formula One, which can only help raise the sport's profile in these difficult times.”
Mallya went on to thank Fisichella for his contribution to the team over the past one and a half seasons, but insisted his departure would not have a major impact on Force India’s impressive recent form: “He has been an integral part of the team and we owe him a great deal for his input behind the scenes and performance out on track - we wish him all the best for the future.
“This sport is a team effort and removing one part, even a major one, will not significantly affect our performance. The competitiveness of the team seen in Belgium was a result of hard work in the factory and wind tunnel and we have further developments coming for the final races, so we are confident this momentum can be sustained.”

Lewis Hamilton has reportedly ended his relationship of nearly two years with Nicole Scherzinger.
According to the Sunday Mirror, the 24-year-old Formula 1 star told the Pussycat Dolls lead singer that there could be no reconciliation.
A source said: "Lewis was adamant the relationship had come to an end.
"He was feeling under pressure to take their union to the next level and he wasn't wanting to become engaged, get married or think about having children. He's young, they spend an awful lot of time apart and he's just not ready to leave his youth behind for a lifetime with Nicole."
The insider also said that Scherzinger, 31, is "mortified" at being dumped and no longer wants to present the F1 Rocks pop concert in Singapore in two weeks.
The source continued: "The last thing Nicole wanted to be doing is anything to do with Formula 1 now - so she immediately pulled out of F1 Rocks.
"Nicole and Lewis would have been the star draw but she doesn't want to be within 20 feet of him right now. She's very upset about being ditched and needs time out. She's cleared her schedule and will be in LA for the next two weeks."
Scherzinger previously said that she wanted children with Hamilton one day.

South Korea to make 2010 F1 debut
South Korea will host its first grand prix next year after being listed on a 19-race calendar published on Monday.
The event, which will be held in Yeongam in the south-west of the country, is scheduled for 17 October.
That makes it the third last race, with Abu Dhabi on 31 October and the climax in Brazil on 14 November.
The Canadian Grand Prix returns after a year's absence but is listed as provisional pending the completion of contract negotiations.

Piquet Jr 'sorry' for race-fixing
Sacked Renault driver Nelson Piquet Jr has apologised for his role in the Formula 1 race-fixing scandal.
Renault were given a two-year suspended ban for ordering Piquet Jr to crash so that team-mate Fernando Alonso could win the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.
"I bitterly regret my actions to follow the orders i was given," he said. "I wish every day that i had not done it.
"I am so sorry to those who work in Formula 1, the fans and the governing body (the FIA)."

It doesn't work like though... cause Lewis aimed to finish in certain positions in races after Singapore. If he needed more points he could have used a different strategy. For instance, in the last race he only needed to finish 5th and did so.

Penalties handed to Brawn duo and others
Saturday 3rd October 2009
Four drivers, including Championship leader Jenson Button, have been slapped with penalties for failing to slow down under yellow flags in Saturday's Japanese qualifying.
Button, together with his Brawn GP team-mate Rubens Barrichello, Renault's Fernando Alonso, Force India's Adrian Sutil and Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi were called before the Suzuka stewards in the wake of qualifying.
The stewards ruled that Button, Barrichello, Alonso and Sutil had all failed to slow down under waved yellow flags in the wake of Buemi's Q2 accident.
The four drivers were all handed five-grid slot penalties, which means the two Championship rivals, Barrichello and Button, will now start P9 and P11 respectively.
Brawn GP boss Ross Brawn conceded his drivers did not slow down. "No, they swerved to avoid the problem. But they didn't lift off, no," he said.
Alonso, who earlier defended himself saying he did slow down, will start 17th on the grid while Sutil will drop from fourth to eighth.
Meanwhile, Buemi was reprimanded by the stewards for driving back to the pits with a damaged car, which he did in the wake of his accident. He too was handed a five-grid slot penalty.
Other penalties this weekend include Tonio Liuzzi's five-grid slot penalty for changing his gearbox.

Even though he’s known for some time that 2009 will be his last season with Ferrari, Kimi Raikkonen was unexpectedly emotional when speaking about it in the Suzuka paddock on Thursday, giving one of the longest interviews of his entire career. However, the Finn, who will be replaced by Fernando Alonso next year, remained pretty tight-lipped about his future plans, refusing to reveal whether rumours of a return to McLaren are accurate…
Q: Kimi, you had good times at Ferrari, won a championship and now it’s all over. How do you feel about that?
Kimi Raikkonen: Well, let’s face it, in the end I have achieved what I wanted - I’ve won a championship. I’ve worked with them for the last three years and now things have changed. It’s not the first time that it has happened in Formula One and surely won’t be the last time. That’s all I want to say.
Q: But how did Ferrari convince you to end the relationship. You had a contract for 2010 with them?
KR: There are many reasons. You should ask them. But in Formula One, even if you have a contract, there is always a lot of money involved, so there can always be different options in life. That’s obviously what happened. Sure, there is not only one reason for what has happened, that’s why everybody decided to end up in this position.
Q: You had a contract for next year and have done your best over the last three year, winning one championship. Do you feel you’ve been unfairly treated?
KR: I’m still happy with what I’ve done and I think I will have a good future. Sure, if you sign a contract you finish it, but obviously it didn’t work out. Overall I’m okay with it.
Q: How long ago did you know you won’t race for Ferrari in 2010?
KR: For quite a while now.
Q: Are you okay with the solution you’ve found?
KR: Yeah.
Q: There are a number of options open to you for the future. One of them is returning to McLaren. Could you imagine going back? Would you enjoy it there again?
KR: I have nothing bad to say about them as we always had a good relationship, and of course it’s a chance. But honestly I haven’t thought too much about these things, but in time I will make my decision. I will let you know!
Q: Are you a bit frustrated with Ferrari this season?
KR: I don't think anyone expected Ferrari to have this kind of season, which turned out to be so difficult. But this can happen in Formula One sometimes, when you don't deliver a car capable of getting us to the front, but this is just one year and we will wait and see what happens next.
Q: Renault said that they will make their announcement next week. Could they be an option and have you talked to them?
KR: No, not with them.
Q: If you could do it all over again would you do anything differently?
KR: Would I have made different decisions? No. I am happy about what I have done, but sure if you look back in hindsight you probably would have done different things. But that’s easy to say afterwards. Regarding my contracts, no I would not have changed anything.
Q: What did you give to Ferrari and what did Ferrari give to you in the last three years?
KR: I’ve achieved with them what I always wanted to achieve. We had good times, of course, but we also had difficult times. But that’s part of the whole business. Sometimes you have good moments and sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and carry on. Overall I have happy memories of my time with the team. I have won a championship and the team has won two. That is something that nobody can take away.
Q: You have seemed to have had ups and downs. Did you always give 100 percent or have there been moments where you lacked motivation?
KR: No, there has never been a lack of motivation. All the stories came from the media - basically you guys. I never had any motivation problems. Sure if you have good results life tends to be easier, but then these things happen.
Q: Many times before you’ve said that Ferrari will be your last team. Have you changed your mind or were you forced to change your mind?
KR: Like I said, there have been many options around and what happened now is just one of them. I think in the end I am happy with what happened, otherwise I would not have done the deal with them. For the moment I have not decided if I want to continue racing, or what I want to do. Before I had a contract for 2010, now not anymore. That changes things. Maybe I’ll race, maybe I won’t.
Q: What are the chances of you going rallying now?
KR: There is chance, but there is also chance of racing in Formula One. For sure I will decide before the start of the next season what I am going to do.
Q: Did you ask Ferrari why Fernando and not me, or why Felipe Massa and not me? Did you get a satisfying answer?
KR: I know more or less the reasons and it has nothing to do with my racing or anything I’m doing in the team. It’s just purely another reason.
Q: How much has your departure to do with the arrival of Santander?
KR: For that you’ll have to ask the team.
Q: Wherever destiny takes you, do you hope to fight with Fernando for another world title?
KR: If I decide to go with a team next year, I am surely not going with any of the small teams, as that will never give me the chance to fight for the championship. And if I’m not able to fight for the championship, there will be no reason for me to be in Formula One.

That has to be the longest interview ive ever heard him give.....
Kimi is being pushed out because of Alonso coming in.
If Massa hadnt of had that accident then he'd be going but they have to stick with him or they'll look bad.
As for Santander coming into Ferrari, its just ridicoulous.......

glock is not gonna be racing in brazil due to a cracked vertibrate and i just read this about massa from james allen on twitter he wont be racing
Massa will not race again in 2009
Ferrari has put out a statement confirming that Felipe Massa will drive an F2007 Ferrari tomorrow at its Fiorano test track, but has stressed that together with the team, Massa has come to the conclusion that his best interests would be served by not trying to race again this season at the final event in Abu Dhabi.
I have to say that this looks like a smart move. Prior to flying over to Europe a week ago, Massa was reported by Brazilian colleagues to be determined to drive in the final race. But having undergone some training and two days of medical examinations in Paris, it looks like he has accepted that it would be better to come back next season 100% ready, rather than risk his reputation by coming back too early. A poor performance in Abu Dhabi could have raised questions and added unwanted pressures.
“Tomorrow’s event is significant but in no way does it signify a return to competition in the near future,” said the statement. “In fact, based on a previously taken decision and after an informal medical examination in Paris a few days ago, which proved rather positive, but not enough to endorse a return to competition in the next two months, Felipe and the team want to proceed gradually and without any hurry to recover as well as possible from the effects of the accident that happened in Budapest back on 25th July.
“Therefore talk of a proper return to Formula 1 can wait until the start of the 2010 season and only at that time will the medical checks be carried out, as required by the FIA in order to allow someone who has been injured to return to racing.”
