Urgh, really? Surely you guys have something better than that? :bored:
We best not have some average boy band represent us again. The UK has picked some really bad choices in the last few years.

Yeah, I am pretty sure Jedward are confirmed, the UK always makes me laugh because they have lots of famous singers and always pick really obscure entries. I think Ireland can do better than Jedward though, since they didn't win last year, no point sending them again.

I'd like to see a good contest between Ireland and the UK again, like years ago. We both seem hell bent on choosing some really **** entries.

I think Ireland was right choosing Jedward tonight. If anyone else watched in on RTE, then you'd probs agree that Mercy sung live was a let down compared to the version on Youtube and lacked any energy. I was really full on for supporting it, but live, Jedward was better and more entertaining and also strategically superior.
Overall Cyprus is my fav so far, but in general it's not shaping up to be as good as last years ultimate contest :D

Ironic that the UK is slagging off Ireland for choosing to send Jedward again when they managed 8th and beat our representitives Blue last year, especially when you consider the failures we have had last couple of years. Block voting etc gets in the way, but overall it is just light entertainment although some treat it seriously!
It doesn't annoy me that much that they beat Blue, even though I liked our entry, it just seems a bit lazy and it's a bit boring to just enter the same act twice in a row

Other countries have done it before, don't see the problem.
Jedward became popular in countries such as Germany, Sweden etc last year so they and they must be hoping to capitalise on that success for their country.
Yeah I didn't like it when Germany did it last year either, countries should actually come up with a new entrant each year imo

It's not lazy, there were other candidates but Jedward won the song for Ireland voting. Tbh I think it's our best chance of finishing anywhere decent, which is near impossible these days with all the block voting that goes on.

After much speculation the BBC are proud to announce that musical legend Engelbert Humperdinck will fly the flag for Britain, as our entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012!
And what a song it promises to be. Engelbert will be representing the UK with a track produced by Grammy award-winning Martin Terefe (Mary J Blige, James Morrison) and co-written by Martin and Ivor Novello winner Sacha Skarbek (Adele, Lana Del Ray, James Blunt). The track is being recorded in London, L.A and Nashville.
With a gobsmacking 45 year career as one of Britain's best-loved artists, there couldn't be a more experienced performer to hold the torch for the UK's Eurovision bid in 2012. In the past few months alone, Engelbert has performed to loyal fans in Russia, Romania, Israel, Belgium and The Netherlands. On singing for Britain, Engelbert says...
"It's an absolute honour to be representing my country for this year's Eurovision Song Contest. When the BBC approached me, it just felt right for me to be a part of an institution like Eurovision. I'm excited and raring to go and want the nation to get behind me!"
Engelbert Humperdinck
Engelbert Humperdinck - singing for Britain!
So here are ten things you need to know about Engelbert Humperdink or as we affectionately like to call him... 'The Hump'.
His real name is Gerry Dorsey
One of Engelbert's iconic 'looks' was stolen by Elvis
He's sold 150 million records worldwide
Jarvis Cocker is a fan
He sang 'Lesbian Seagull' for Beavis and Butthead
He held The Beatles' 'Penny Lane' off the No 1 spot in the charts
He's broken a musical Guinness World Record
Jimi Hendrix was once his guitarist
He once owned Jayne Mansfield's former home, the 'Pink Palace'
He's never been to Spain (ok, we're stretching it a bit here)
:amazed:
How can they be proud about that

Then on reflection I ended up thinking it may be a very good and clever move.
He was a big star in the UK, USA and Europe in the past, Germany particularly, often big stars from the past command respect from Europe too.
He may surprise everyone and do rather well for the UK.

I think he will make the first 10 and although he may not win it, will likely bring a far more credible result for the UK.
He is certainly going to be perhaps a more 'unique' act this year and just may do extremely well. Good luck to him.

Folk group the "Buranovo Grannies" will compete in the Eurovision Song Contest, after winning a televised contest in Moscow to represent Russia.
The six grandmothers beat 24 other acts - including a duet between 2008 winner Dima Bilan and Tatu's Yulia Volkova - with song Party For Everybody.
Buranovskiye Babushki, from the Udmurt Republic, say they will use any cash raised to build a church in Buranovo.
"Grandmothers do not need glory and wealth," a member told Vesti news.
The singer, named only as "Grandmother Olga", said building the village church was their "only goal".
Their winning song, which begins as a traditional folk tune before a modern dance beat kicks in, features the refrain, "party for everybody, come on and dance".
The lyrics to the song, which feature a mixture of English and Udmurt - a language related to Finnish - were written by the grandmothers.
Engelbert Humperdinck Engelbert Humperdinck, 75, will represent the UK in this year's contest
Buranovskiye Babushki became known in Russia with covers - sung in Udmurt - of classics including the Beatles' Yesterday and the Eagles' Hotel California.
In 2010, they came third in the Russian Eurovision qualifying contest with their song Dlinnaya-dlinnaya beresta i kak sdelat' iz neyo aishon, which translates as "long, long birch bark and how to make a hat of it".
The UK will also be represented by a pensioner at the 57th Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan when 75-year-old singer Engelbert Humperdinck will perform the British entry.
The Russian singers will take part in the first qualifying heat on 22 May. The Eurovision Song Contest takes place on 26 May.
Meanwhile, Eurovision organisers have announced that Armenia had pulled out amid tension with old rival Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani and Armenian forces fought a war over the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh in the 1990s which left at least 25,000 people dead.
A ceasefire was signed in 1994 but no permanent peace deal has been reached.

San Marino have had their Facebook song banned
http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/03/19/san-marinos-facebook-lyrics-get-song-banned-from-eurovision/
For the writers behind San Marino’s Eurovision 2012 entry, “Facebook, Uh, Oh, Oh,” the emphasis has definitely shifted to “Uh, Oh.” That’s because officials behind the Eurovision Song Contest—the pan-European singing competition that takes place from May 22 until May 26—say the song violates a rule expressly forbidding songs from promoting commercial interests.
Sammarise singer Valentina Monetta presented the song on San Marino state television on Saturday evening. It tells the story of a woman addicted to social media, and in doing so repeats the word “Facebook” 11 times. The lyrics explain how the character compulsively logs on to Facebook, and how it has driven her into some awkward situations with members of the opposite sex. “Do you wanna be more than just a friend? Do you wanna play cyber-sex again?” Monetta asks in the glossy video. “If you wanna come to my house, then click me with your mouse.” On another level it emphasizes that the site’s founder wants to keep users entrapped in the Facebook web: “Mark Zuckerberg’s hammerin’, clamorin’ around the bend.”
In the video, which has been viewed more than 100,000 times since March 17, Monetta wears blue and white—Facebook’s unofficial colors—and can be seen dancing inside an oversized Facebook profile.
The European Broadcasting Union, which runs and regulates Eurovision, has given San Marino a deadline of Friday, March 23 to remove references to Facebook from the song or to submit a new song entirely. Given the corny lyrics of San Marino’s first attempt, the potential disqualification may be a blessing in disguise.
