Does an Ancient Battle refer to the Time War?

That's what I was suspecting because in the add it said it's the day he'd been running from, but I'm not sure.

The synopsis seems to point towards.

2013 > Eleven and Clara
1562 > Ten and Rose
Ancient battle > Time War > John Hurt's Doctor

Three stories that all collide into one. That's my guess anyway. Fits in with what has been seen with filming too.

I hope the trailer is out this Saturday, feels like it's been forever since series seven concluded!

At first I suspected john hurt was the one who killed everyone in the time war because the doctor said something about that being the part of him the broke some rule about being the doctor.

I've felt bad for Martha she was like a rebound companion :(
I loved rose, dona was alright too I guess.
I liked any at first but she ended up becoming really annoying, Clara hasn't done much.
I hope they introduce a new companion next series, I always liked it with 3 in the tardis.

I'm guessing Billie Piper's not playing Rose.

But Bad Wolf using Rose's image?

Everything about her, dress sense, voice etc is so un-Rose like that I don't think she's Rose from her travels with 10.

Especially since it seems 10 will be with Elizabeth I, which is from a time between The Waters of Mars and The End of Time.

Samm
12-11-2013, 08:14 PM
She is Playing rose she said in the interview and it has been confirmed that she will be playing rose

Marsh.

She's not very in-character then.

There'll be a twist somewhere for sure. Maybe she's present day Rose from the alternate universe.

I like the idea of her being the 'Bad Wolf' although does that seem too easy? It just seems a bit too simple for someone like Moffat who relishes in complex plots and characters. I would think he's got a surprise up his sleeve.

I suspected Capaldi might be thrown in somewhere. Also that Billie Piper wouldn't be playing Rose.

It was great to see Tom Baker given a part to do at the end. Still a great actor.

A lot of it felt like meandering unfortunately for me, it didn't all flow. The Zygon/Elizabeth stuff felt like padding and something RTD might have been able to make a bit more fun to watch.

But the opening 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes were excellent.

I liked the 12 of them all stood together, dodgy CGI and all. :D

I'm a bit torn about the moment not actually happening.

Although 9, 10 and 11 still go on and have their dark brooding about what they think they did. We now know they didn't actually do it. Takes something out of it I suppose.

I dunno, in 'Night of the Doctor' the Doctor was still a young man, where as he's old by the end of the time war, he's still been doing a lot of killing. I'm glad Gallifrey is saved, it was always going to come back, and this is the best way they could have done it, it's like a whole new chapter for the show, the Doctor is no longer this dark angsty 'Last of the Timelords' he finally knows where he's going.

james130
24-11-2013, 02:23 AM
I really enjoyed it, but echoing what's already been said. It did feel a little short.
2 hours would have been more appropriate.
Like The End of Time which was a perfect length.

From the trailer I pretty much figured that Billie wouldn't play Rose, but god I hoped she would appear even for a second.
However, if the only negative thing I can take away from it is that their was no Rose Tyler, then they've not done too bad.

At least they got Billie back and sort of in a way that would please the die-hards in terms of integrity instead of just putting her in for the sake of it.
However, with good writing, it could have been managed. :idc:

I don't quite understand a few things in the episode.

Although I went on DS straight after to see if they made any sense of it, with time lines and already established events. The End of Time for instance, someone mentioned that the Time Lords in tonight's episode spoke of the High Council sealing themselves away to find a way of ending the war while the Time Lords in the War Room carried on. Which means the events of The End of Time still happened, alongside the events of tonight's.

Thought it was a good episode. So glad the Timelords are finally back. Well alive at any rate. I was hoping for a bit more Time War action and felt some parts of the story wasn't really needed. The Zygon plot was left gaping open with no resolution.

james130
24-11-2013, 02:25 AM
... plus this was misleading because she looks her normal self here and this kept me holding on to the hope that this Rose would appear. :(

'The End of Time' plot took place in between the first war room meeting and the Doctor's returning to Gallifrey to use the moment, I think. The Zygon plot was okay, it was more of a way of showing the War Doctor what 10/11 are like, than a full on serious plot. It's kinda like The Power of Three being more about the Doctor/Amy/Rory than the cube things, except I think Day of the Doctor did a bit better with the subplot, lol.

What I don't get is isn't timelords can only regenerate 12 times. They need to write in an explanation why that was changed, it wouldn't bother me so much if this rule wasn't the main part of a couple of the old doctor who episodes and the movie.

I think that will form as the series 8 story arc.

If we're to believe Peter Capaldi will infact play the 13th Doctor then he has reached his limit of regenerations. With Gallifrey now 'lost' series eight's story could be the 13th Doctor on a long search of finding it and when reaching Gallifrey, somehow extending his amount of regenerations.

The Timelords can give new cycles of regenerations out, they did so with The Master. I think the Doctor has more than earned a new cycle.

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat announced today that next year's series will air as a continuous run.

Speaking at the BFI's Eleventh Doctor celebration event in London this afternoon, attended by CultBox, Moffat confirmed explicitly: "There'll be no split."

Series 6 was split between the spring and autumn of 2011, while Series 7 was split between 2012 and 2013.

Series 8 begins filming later this month and is expected to start airing on BBC One in August 2014.

My parents did not think much of it, but then they have not liked the Matt Smith episodes.

Could this be because while Tennant was there, the writer was Russell T Davis and Matt was under Steven Moffat?

Did anyone here the musical reference to Rings of Akaten near the end? Also part of it did seem like an attempt to deal with a plot hole left behind by the writers of the old series, pre-Ecclestone"

It would be nice if they did a short Easter special (maybe just a 30-40 minute thing?) just to break up the gap now until series 8.

Last nights special I thought was pretty weak if I'm honest. I usually adore Moffat's writing style although he seemed to had lost it with this script. The pacing was terrible too. Although I'll have to give it a few more viewings to see if it's better watching it again. The last 10 minutes were amazing though. The rest of the episode felt like it was missing something.

Because he'd rather die protecting the town, plus, the time lords were involved, so he felt somewhat responsible. On the topic of the time lords, I reckon they've reopened another crack in the universe, but its been hidden this time.

Why is a love story boring? What about the River Song - Doctor love story

I thought it added a dynamic to the whole thing, the regeneration scene made one feel sorry for Clara as she was loosing the one she loved.

He pleas through the crack seemed more like her continuing her role as the girl born to save the Doctor.

I wonder if Capaldi will get a new logo? Since Eccleston, Tennant and Smith all did.

I also realised, Smith's Doctor is one of the longest living in the show, since he was alive for about 1000 years. Compare that to the 9th Doctor's one year, or the 10th Doctor's 5/6 years.

I'm interested to see what happens with Clara and the Doctor, people have been wanting to see this for years "Imagine if a companion is in love with the Doctor, and he suddenly regenerates as a much older guy" lol.

Somebody posted an interview on DS where Moffat mentions that he only plots the show one series at a time and only towards the end does he start to think of the next series. He mentioned he's come up with a "massive cliffhanger you won't see coming" for the penultimate episode of series 9.

Peter capaldi is gonna be great his voice in that trailer sounds so good. I hope Moffat doesn't **** this season up to much http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ed2305b7.png

Capaldi could be the best ever.

It's a shame he has to have Moffat oversee his stories. Hopefully Moffat goes back to Blink/Silence in the Library standard and forgets the timey wimpy sh*te.

The BBC has apologised after five scripts from the upcoming eighth series of Doctor Who were leaked online.

The corporation's commercial arm BBC Worldwide pleaded with anyone who has seen the leaked scripts not to share any information.

Doctor Who Steven Moffat: 'New series is biggest change since 2005'

"BBC Worldwide is currently investigating a security issue around Doctor Who series eight where unfinished material has inadvertently been made public," the company told Radio Times in a statement.

"We deeply regret this and apologise to all the show's fans, the BBC and the cast and crew who have worked tirelessly making the series.

"We would like to make a plea to anyone who might have any of this material and spoilers associated with it not to share it with a wider audience so that everyone can enjoy the show as it should be seen when it launches.

Doctor Who: Peter Capaldi's first episode thrilling, says Mark Gatiss

"We know only too well that Doctor Who fans are the best in the world and we thank them for their help with this and their continued loyalty."

The scripts are thought to have leaked after being sent to BBC Worldwide's Latin America headquarters in Miami for translation.

Steven Moffat's opening episode 'Deep Breath' is included in the leaked material, as well as four other episodes.

Peter Capaldi's debut in the feature-length premiere of the eighth series will air on Saturday, August 23 on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US.

S6 was the worst season of new Who for me, it was just too serialised. The finale was an complete mess too.

I loved The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon but the story arc that came of it was utter rubbish. The finale of S6 is probably the worst episode the show ever did.
