I'm just hoping that these words don't appear under the eye on the opening sequence, the eye is an iconic symbol of the title sequence

The underlying tone or theme should be secrets and lies but it shouldn't be in the title.

Its tacky.

It's looking good, Emma looks great.

Finally they're mixing it up a bit and refreshing the format.

But is it me or have they photoshopped Rylan's head onto Paula Hamilton's body?

Huh?

Trying to make this 'secrets and lies' thing happen in the title. It'll always be BB14 to the fans.

How about no? The show is called Big Brother, if they want to use Secrets and lies as a theme then okay. But don't change the name.

They should have the old school titles back with letters from "secrets and lies" flashing up but not under the eye at the end.

It might just be a false alarm, they might be basing it off the "eco-friendly" article:

Ryan ‏@TweetMeRyan 6m

@bbspy What does that actually mean? Will it be on the titles, listings, and discussed with that name? or just the tagline?
Expand

bbspy bbspy ‏@bbspy 2m

@TweetMeRyan Not quite sure but Channel 5 just referred to it as that in a press release

bbspy ‏@bbspy 24s

Not sure if it'll be referred to as 'Secrets & Lies' on the show, in listings etc, but that's what C5 is calling it in press materials #bbuk

Doesn't really matter, it'll always be Big Brother. It's just Secrets and Lies is a subtitle. I don't see the big deal.

The title doesn't really bother me...

I watch Survivor, and that is a massive reality tv show, known for it's subtitles as well. People will still call it BB14.

The good thing about this is that it means at least they're fully committed to whatever twist or theme this is going to be, and it should (hopefully) in theory, last the entire series. So rather than some pathetic launch night twist, '#whatsthesecret' is actually going to be something substantial...

I seriously hope it's two houses or something. An increased prize fund would be amazing too :amazed:

It might just be a false alarm, they might be basing it off the "eco-friendly" article:

Channel 5 is calling it 'Big Brother: Secrets & Lies' in press materials (such as the new photos)

That doesn't necessarily mean it will be called 'Big Brother: Secrets & Lies' on the show, in TV listings etc, but taglines for previous series - such as 'The Final Send-Off' or 'Zero Tolerance' - were never referenced in press materials, so it looks like it could be different this time.

Completely disagree. Think about it, non-viewers and ex-viewers who don't like the show in it's current form and don't watch enough Channel 5 to see all the adverts see from the listings or their EPGs that it's had a big enough change to the format this year to merit a subtitle and they give it a try. They see the back to basics eco-house, they learn about the big secrets twist and they see it's got a competent (and attractive) presenter again and they decide to stick with it for a bit, viewing figures increase. It doesn't have to be permanent, once it's done it's job they can either drop it or change it annually depending on that year's theme.

They're not changing the show name, they're just giving this particular series a sub-title rather than a number, BBAU were planning to do it last year, the most recent BBAU was initially named Big Brother: Secrets.

Jack_
23-05-2013, 04:21 PM
Yeah I agree with Sid, the subtitle in the listings will attract the attention of casual viewers. If it's just 'Big Brother' you might get people thinking 'ah that's back again, cba with that this year' whereas if it has 'Secrets and Lies' on the end of it people will end up intrigued and may just tune in to see what's going on.

DigitalSid
23-05-2013, 04:21 PM
It's of note that BBAU 4, which also had a secrets theme and 'What's the secret?' promo campaign also went back to basics, so if you want an idea of what to expect, it's probably something like that but with the basics being more the basics BBUK started with.

I don't think they'll actually change the title. It's just to build the hype until the series starts.

They don't need the whole series to resolve around a twist. If they change too many aspects it'll end up feeling like a spin off.

It's the series sub-title, see above, it's not a rename of the show as a whole, but it isn't just a series promo tag for the ads, that's '#whatsthesecret'.

We already know from mention of the Saturday ep being called 'Bit On The Psych' that BOTS as a title is staying for the spin-off. Plus the promo pics are for the show as a whole, not just BOTS, hence Emma being positioned in front of the others despite only presenting BOTS 3 nights a week this year.

From what I saw of it on the Australian version, it only properly effected the first few weeks (not seen much of the French version), hopefully it won't be as brief as that but hopefully it won't dominate the whole show throughout. Maybe a secrets twist for the first two weeks then a lie related task or twist for a week or two later on.

It seems like this twist will at least last for a week or two! If not the whole series?
The launch show twist, Celebrity Big Brother: The Basement Twist LIVE was worded like that on the EPG?

It wont appear on the titles. It's just a tagline which is very significant to the twist. It may appear on the listings, but not in the titles. It's no big deal, it's still big brother.

The name of the show doesn't appear in the titles anyway, just the eye, only the spin-offs get name checked.

All channel 4's taglines never meant anything, give c5 a chance its first time they have done this let them prove themselves.

Tbqh, that's exactly what the show needs.

Not necessarily a gimmicky twist, but an overhaul of the format. Keep the fundamentals in place otherwise it wouldn't be Big Brother but give it a big makeover.

And as others have said, the change in title may attract fans who abandoned the show.

So like in USA, 'Big Brother 9: Till Death do you part'?

And this happened in 2010 with CBB7, what happened to 'Hell Lies In Others'..

'Hell Lies In Others' was more the equivalent of '#WHATSTHESECRET', it was a teaser slogan for the advertising, not the series title, this is different, the series is actually named and will be billed as 'Big Brother: Secrets & Lies' (like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtxSt7JGdfY) one was used as the working title to the most recent BBAUS (Big Brother: Secrets (http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2011/11/big-brother-secrets-confirmed.html)) and shows and films do it all the time. It won't, as some of the over cautious here have voice concerns about, define the show, just reflect the series big theme. Why they've not done it before now (it's been suggested a few times), and why so many find it so hard to get their heads around I don't know (It's ridiculously simple. Same show, different series identifier, instead of "Welcome to Big Brother 2013", "Welcome to Big Brother: Secrets & Lies"), it's not permanent, it'll either change to something else for next year or be dropped completely, it's just an interesting and catchy series title based around the twist to mark out this year's series as slightly different.

Brekkie

It's not unusual with reality shows and nothing new at all. Survivor has always had sub titles since the second season - usually the location but increasingly game related, while Big Brother itself spun off into Big Brother: The Battle after just a couple of series, although the title wasn't used on screen or in listings here.

I think it is good to bill it as BB: Secret and Lies in listings and on the EPG as it will grab peoples attention, suggesting BB has changed so it might be worth checking out. Also hope they use it on screen - I've always found it kind of arrogant how they only use the logo for the main show.
