ATV Today @atvtodayuk
Channel 5 has confirmed to @atvtodayuk that Big Brother Live From The House on 5* is to be axed due to poor ratings.
Knew it would happen after the terrible ratings.

No. It was the slot. The LF after evictions have got 500k-600k.
We need that couple of hours live feed whether people think it's boring or not it was fantastic being able to just have it on and see them going about day to day things like we used to when we had it 24/7.
Roy Mars III

Get rid of that casino bollox and put it on 5* late at night. OK that casino bollox may be bringing lots of revenue but if C5 are gonna make a commitment to BB then they have to do something with live feed other than axing it.

Ch5 logic.... put LF on at the toughest time for a multichannel and axe it because it's not needed. Typical.
I think the 500-600k people watching LF at night proves viewers DO want to see LF, just at a different time.
Erm they haven't been doing night streaming have they?
He means the LF that's on every night at 7pm?

as I was talking to unhappy on twitter take the other night
have a convo with 50% of the misery twins and in the background you could hear some laughing and real fun they stuck with the misery twin.
I don't really think Endemol wanted it working why would that be? because its already shown HM's in a different light to what they want viewers to believe in a h.l show.
Given this axe does that mean BOTS will be axed also? if the figures keep dropping.
Ben Frow was told within hours of the time being made public this would fail he basically said it was this or nothing.
I have emailed him back from his previous email If I get a reply I will of course post
but sadly I think BBUK (normal version) is all but over.

Shame, they'll use this now as a reason to never give us regular LF again despite the problem being more the slot than anything. Not been able to see that much of it because of the time its on but just appreciated it being there if I ever did get the chance to watch, nice to just see the more normal everyday moments and conversations rather than purely the dramatic events that make the HL show

Im sorry but I think it will be the last one.
Advertisers are only interested in overnights ratings and the fact that the launches without +1 got under 2 million is very very unattractive.
Now with overnights being around 1.2/1.3 million and other Channel 5 programmes like CSI getting nearly 2 million some nights Big Brother just isn't performing well.
Why would they shell out more money on it next year when they aren't getting anything in return.

Nightly Live Feed Axed.
Channel 5 have confirmed that the two hour live feed that airs nightly on 5* has been axed and will no longer be shown from July 6th.
More to follow...
Let us know what you think about this decision in the forum....
Read full article here - http://www.thisisbigbrother.com/bigbrother14-secrets-and-lies/news-228019/channel-5-axes-bb-live-feed.html
Disappointing but can't really blame Channel 5. They arent in this business to lose money. The live feed was getting about a 5th (being generous) of the viewership it needed to make sense for Channel 5. With such miniscule numbers, its very doubtful any amount of promotion or any time slot would have made much difference. They tried. The viewers did not respond. Unfortunately the BB hardcore enthusiasts who frequent this board do not represent the population as a whole, which in the end decides these things. Frankly, looking at the programme numbers for the main show, I'm more conerned whether BB itself will survive beyond next summer than I am about minimally viewed live feeds at this point.
Why start begging channel 4, they scrapped the show altogether never mind just the LF
Idk i guess most fans just arent into big brother enough to watch 2 hours of live feed, then a highlights show and BOTS tbh

They have a contract until 2014 don't they? The overnights are the same as BB13, and higher than BB12. I don't think it will be axed if it stays at the same level as it is. BB13 actually went to around 1.1m overnights every night in the 2nd half of its run.
There is no worry.

If late night live feed gets over 500k there is obvious interest so why have Channel 5 not just launched an online feed and charged £10 a seasonal pass?

Possibly. But as long as it stays around the same as it is. It will be safe. The overnights have barely moved in the 10pm slot since the beginning which means its consistent. It basically got 1.4m last night (1.35m I think incl +1).

I can imagine them saying *If we stick it on at a really awkward time where it has no chance in the ratings then its justified in us not running a live stream. Then if we give it no promotion whatsoever its a done deal.
Absolute *****.
Either that or they really are that dumb and don't know how to market or schedule their programming because late nigh live feed still gets over 500k and has even surpassed 1 million on other occasions.
I think they may actually be just a little bit dumb.
They 100% did this on purpose, putting it at the worst time slot possible with next to no promotion
And what in the world would be their motivation for doing this?:joker:
The feed had been gone for 2 full years already. If they didnt want the feed why bring it back at all. Face it, not enough interest for any time slot. 30K viewers? Sorry, most programmes would get more than that from people accidently leaving their televisions on. I'm disappointed, but reality is reality.

Well the night feed at 4--/500k has really buggered that for them.
I totally have no doubt the feeds home and natural place is online
it started off online only (BB1) it was when C4 got fancy ideas it mutated onto TV via the red button.
Channel 5 should have taken it back to the original idea online and even if it was basic 1 camera per room (dedicated feed cam) that was the way forward.
So many angry fans out there this is something C5 really didn't need

Livefeed will never get massive figures so for them to use that as an excuse for the axe is taking the p*ss. To put it at 7pm was a daft idea too against soaps then complain about the figures. I'm starting to agree with the people who think it was put on to prove it was'nt needed.

No it got 1.35 lol lets not round up to make a sh!tty ratings look slightly less sh!tty.
1.4 is absolute crap.
I think for it to have any chance of survival it would have to get atleast 1.7 just like CSI does in overnights so in officials most shows hit that 2 million mark.
Channel 5 need interest from advertisers who look at the overnights to judge its success and unfortunately not time shifts and officials.

One was told about moving the slot... "No final decision but looking unlikely"

Yes, but Dan, we need to be realistic here :p If BB12-BB13 got 1.2-1.3m overnights and still managed to show the series this year, we can't expect it to magically to jump up to 1.7m overnights at 10pm out of nowhere. Regular BB will never get over 1.6m in the 10pm slot. It's like expecting Eastenders to get the ratings it does in the 10pm slot. Just doesn't work.
Sunday proved it can get 1.6m at 9pm against 2 dramas on the big channels.

They admitted that the last 2 summer BB's ratings were disappointed so this year they really pulled it out of the bag with the house ect so obviously it was a last ditch attempt to increase ratings which it hasent.
Really really not surprised. So does this include the feed after evictions too?
With ratings as low as 9k at times, there was no avoiding this happening.

Anyway all we can hope for now is an extended post eviction feed.
Even 30 minutes of feed leading up to the eviction show would have rated well.
Its all about them being able to swallow their pride though because if they move its time it looks like they have been incompetent and are admitting they ****ed up.
This way though they can just blame the ratings.
Why have no live feed ratings been released for a while now aswell?

And that's the reason right there why they will axe it lol.
They admitted that the last 2 summer BB's ratings were disappointed so this year they really pulled it out of the bag with the house ect so obviously it was a last ditch attempt to increase ratings which it hasent.
Yeah, they may be disappointed by what BB is getting for BB. But it is performing better than the slot averages, share averages and has beaten Channel 4 around 10 times in the last 13 days.
Do you think Ch5 will let BB go because of it's "below average" ratings, only to suffer iun the long term, come 5th in it's slot every night and get sub 1m ratings for every single show except CSI? They NEED BB. BB makes them achieve ratings which place 3rd in it's slot. Without it, they will be the channel being whooped by a very **** Channel 4.
And on the advertisers side, BB has been huge this series for the demographic and has come out on top out of ALL channels. It has only been beaten by The Apprentice and The Voice.

They're absolute wankers. I'm done with them.

So they're fully aware of what they're doing.
Yeah that pissed me off, wankers

And what in the world would be their motivation for doing this?:joker:
The feed had been gone for 2 full years already. If they didnt want the feed why bring it back at all. Face it, not enough interest for any time slot. 30K viewers? Sorry, most programmes would get more than that from people accidently leaving their televisions on. I'm disappointed, but reality is reality.
They did it to shut the fans up and purposely put it up against the soaps just so we can look like we're in the wrong.
Now it's just gonna be "We gave it to you but nobody watched it" bullsh*t

BB has not boosted the channels share any major way.
Since BB came to Channel 5 in 2011 the overall share for the whole channel initially dropped.
Before BB
2007: 5.3%
2008: 4.6%
2009: 4.8%
2010: 4.5%
BB comes to Channel 5
2011: 4.4%
2012: 4.5%
2013: 4.0% so far.
Saw that coming a mile off, it was just a matter of time before they scrapped it again. I don't think they ever intended keeping it, it was just to pacify the fans for a while imo, and to draw the viewers in before they scrapped it again. So glad I am not bothering with this series at all.

Considering Endemol make a lot of reality TV I think the UK Boss better face some reality he said a few weeks ago BBUK could go at least 50 years.
Not at this rate mate.
Some lousy HM's some very lazy production values and endemol should have made an online feed core of the contract with C5. Ratings are hardly dazzling and the last thing any show needs is angry fans, Ben Frow realised the need to keep the fans online and maybe bring some back.
I don't like corried/EE etc so the time was never a problem for me but asking fans of these soaps to watch the feed instead was never going to work.

That's as a whole. The shares are so low because of how ****e Ch5 do earlier on. Look at earlier ratings, shows on Ch5 get around 2% in the day. For Big Brother, which gets around 8%-9% in the 10pm slot... it is double the 2013 average. At the moment, only CSI and BB are thrashing the channels share and rating average. They will want to cling onto both CSI and BB with their lives.
Channel 4 have dropped hugely without BB.
****ing awful news.
Nobody even watches 5* anyway!
At least BBUSA starts tonight so we won't have to put up with this bull**** for long- seriously considering ditching this year's BBUK if Gina goes.
True. Of course, with the US version which I grew up with, you're not really watching BB. You're watching Survivor-In-A-House with a large helping of The Bachelor. "Big Brother" isn't even a character on the US version, never heard from or referred to. :joker:

Yes but you would think there would be a much higher yearly share seeing as BB is on ALOT and is thrashing other channels in some timeslots?
Wouldn't that make sense?
Its about long term not just beating some shares on on other channels on some nights and long term nothings really changed for the channel share wise.
I know what your saying with the shows rating low in the daytime but that was the case before BB came to the channel and shares were actually higher back then.

That's the thing, that's how bad Ch5 is doing when BB/CSI is not airing. If you take out both of them out of 2013, the Ch4 overall share will go from 4.0% to like 3.2%. That is not BB performing badly, it isn't in terms of the channel. It's the channel itself performing badly. By the end of 2013, Channel 5 should be at around 4.3%. BB has only been on for 2 weeks.
Shares were better back then anyway, as was ratings. I remember Ugly Betty S1 got around 4.5m-5.0m on Channel 4 before BB7 evictions (or was it after?), 3 years later it was getting 1.5m.

Big Brother 2013: Live Feed AXED due to poor ratings, will be dropped from schedules next week
June 26th, 2013 by Nick Barnes.
BIG BROTHER: SECRETS & LIES EYE LOGO SUMMER 2013
Big Brother fans, it has happened again… Live Feed has been AXED by Channel 5 and will be removed from schedules as of next week.
Prior to Big Brother returning, it was confirmed that Live Feed would make a comeback on a bigger scale for the new series, but just three weeks into the current series the feed will be scrapped.
The Big Brother live feed currently airs daily on 5* from 7pm-9pm Monday through Saturday, but only airs between 8pm and 9pm on a Sunday evening.
However, due to poor ratings, it has today been revealed that Channel 5 have announced plans to scrap the live feed as of next week.
bigbrother_2013_sittingarea
A spokesperson confirmed: “Big Brother’s live streaming has been removed from the 5* schedule from next week.”
Since Big Brother returned earlier this month, the Live Feed has been put up against the soaps, which receive million of viewers each and with barely any promotion, it doesn’t take Einstein to work out this outcome was inevitable. Live Feed on 5* kicked off with around 60,000 viewers, but has since dropped to around the 35,000 mark.
Back in 2000 when the show launched on Channel 4, viewers had the opportunity to watch Live Feed 24 hours a day and even had the chance to change between different rooms. However, 24-hour feed was dropped not long after. Back in 2008, Channel 4′s red button Live Feed output was cut down due to dwindling ratings.
However, back in 2011, Channel 4 brought back the 24-hour Live Feed for the final series on the channel, in which 1,000 free passes were given out. Otherwise, it cost £0.49 for a day pass, £1.99 for a weekly pass and £14.99 for the whole series.
big brother eye 2013
When Channel 5 took the reins, they confirmed that the 24-hour feed would not be making a return, but last year Live Feed was brought back following big events such as evictions or arrivals. After increasing complaints and petitioning from fans, Channel 5′s new Head of Programming, Ben Frow made the decision to increase the Live Feed output to 2 hours per night, and 1 hour on a Sunday, however, due to falling ratings, the feed has been axed without a second glance.
A full statement is set to be released later today from producers. The Big Brother nightly Live Feed will cease as of 6th July
It was on at the wrong time ,it should have been a later time in the evening imo

You can't find a normal channel (1-5) that has grown since then. The multichannels are (BBC Three, E4), every normal channel is going down. If Channel 5 shows that were on during 2007 aired now, it would get a much worse rating and a lower share.

Well, to be fair, commercial television today is about stemming your losses. With the increased splintering of the audience, even comparing numbers from five years ago to today is not on. Channel 5 will judge the relative success of BB by one measure -- whether it makes more profits with it than it can with something else. Viewership figures are part of the stroy but not the whole story. BB comes with a high licensing price tag. It can win its time slot but if the revenue does not adequaely cover the program costs, it's over. Only Channle 5 knows how its doing here. However, off hand, one would guess that a decision to fire the host and jetison much of the production staff suggests that BB may not be doing well enough on the profit front.

BB1 was basic but enough the glory days and Greed of C4 ruined the feed.
C5 from the start should have just had a basic feed online not even great quality if cost was an issue something I don't believe for a moment because the whole show is cost.
BOTS costs money but they wont axe that.
The have product placement all over the shop its utter crap they couldn't get companies together and sponsor a feed online it works well in other EU countries and doesn't affect the enjoyment of the show.
C5 never grasped the role a feed plays As a wrote to Ben Frow even if the feed got 50,000 viewers that's 50,000 more than the series last year.
the twitter and website are dire so when that 2hrs ends on the 6th this really will become an hourly/nightly show. :xyxwave:
Tbh I don't believe that their putting it on in the slot they did was some elaborate ploy to give an excuse to axe it later, just doesn't seem worth the hassle and they're probably receiving a bigger backlash from scrapping it after three weeks then they would if they hadn't commissioned it at all for this series

But don't you know, it's never as simple as that?
There's always a big conspiracy behind every decision.
I'll be really happy if they just stick it online.
They could have a link to their feed via facebook and it fits in with the whole social network aspect the show has gone down.
It all ties in and people online will be chatting about it hence free promotion.
Putting it on 5* up against the soaps was random.
There's lots of things they COULD do if money was not an object. But the costs assocaited with putting it online are as high as putting it on the air with likley lower revenues. They could charge a subscription, but if only 30k out 2 million BB viewers are watching it for free, how many are going to pay for a subscription? Not enough to make it viable probably.

I'm at fault as a fan, i didn't watch a single live feed 2 hour... i had other shows to watch at that time slot, why not put it on like 11-12 or something idk
It was insane time slot and loads of people that time was impossible
IMHO Bots should have been made into a BBLB type show again and put the feed on directly after h/l show.
I've always been an advocate of the feed being back online its the natural home for it and wont have to worry about the insane ratings such a service gets on Tv sadly ratings do matter.

If it was online and linked in with their twitter and facebook it would breed talk and that's priceless promotion ending up in more people interacting with each other over it.
Imagine if this site had a live stream in the corner we would all be tuned in and then add online voting into that and BOOM theres your profit.
Instead they stuck it on 5* up against prime time BBC/ITV and they thought that was a better idea? LOL

no the skulduggery I feel is endemol.
No channel 5 the feed really has been coma educing since the weekend
there's clearly been action going on in other areas and they would rather stick with a boring Callum/Twins chat rather than the fun outside.
endemol needed to make sure that 2hrs was the best they could show and I don't believe they have done that for what reason I don't know.

and even cheaper selling the rights to the feed to a 3rd party.
Like BBUSA does allowing that company to air the feed and charge with endemol/c5 getting a % of that back.
other countries do it no problem and some of the eastern EU countries don't even have a fanbase like the UK. Yet its working for them no problem.
Online compliance would only affect say Dan talking about his job or a HM talking about a relative (the mega personal stuff)
swearing.Nudity, sex would be covered by age restricted log in. all this was confirmed with Ofcom when we asked C4 why no online feed.
what a lot of people didn't realise the BB11 feed wasn't edited for online they still edited the feed under the code for TV transmission hence the daytime swearing was muted etc.

True but a lot of the eastern EU BB's get a lot less than BBUK and they have online and TV feeds because its sponsored to the hilt. okay making the HM's wear T shirts like the Tennis players is a bit much but doesn't seem to affect the quality of the series.

Of course its possible. Just not financially viable in Channel 5's opinion. If they could make loads of money of an online subsciption they would do it. Only they know the true bottom line of these things. But at the end of the day they ar ein the business of turning a profit, not launching conspiracies to deprive a handful of people for a live feed.

Money is there to be made sadly the imagination isn't, they could give HM's Ipads to walk around the house and stream what its like being in there from that point of view. Or give them an Iphone (or smartphone) to do the same.

They're not going to spend the money it would cost to set it all up and moderate the 24 hour feed just for the hardcore viewers willing to shell out. Do they even get a million votes for the winner these days?

going off something oathbreaker said earlier, the housemates should all wear shirts advertising a certain brand, say specsavers, and in return the company pays for 24/7 internet free live feed.
Problem solved

If people aren't willing to pay 50p to vote to win or evict I can't see them paying to see birds chirping and garden shots.
But the point is a decent amount would pay, they would still make some money as it wouldn't cost much to stream something that they are already filming 24/7 anyway there's nothing to set up, all they have to do is stream it.....

apparently they made a big loss on the bb11 feed.
why they gave 1000 free passes away seemed weird at the time
its main reason I paid for the feed when they offered the dirty 30 free passes
after creating hell about it I really wanted it to work.
but again bb11 feed was edited like it was being on TV (daytime swearing muted,no nudity) if they create a feed with the minimum birdsong they will have a winner.
