You are either a good role model or a bad role model.
Vulgar Sam is a very bad role model.

Boring? Sleazy? Forgettable?

Wolfy said in an interview that during the knife throwing task with Gina Sam said to the lady that was the assistant to the knife thrower "show us your gash for bangers and mash"...but we never saw that in the HL's show edit...Sam is being protected.

Helen *******ing Keller? She was deaf/blind and a pioneer back in the days when people who were deaf/blind were locked in a room for their whole life. Where is the connection to Sam? What, isn't he disabled enough for you? I've seen some desperate stuff, the good hard try that people are giving to floating the "sleazy Sam" title... but this thread is just nonsensical.

My 10 year old cousin is 90% deaf and spits at the tv every time Sam comes on.
She knows hes nothing but a fake, out to exploit his disability and other people with his disability..

He is a great role model.
He shows that being deaf does not make you stupid, and that ignorant people DO think this.
Dexter is a prime example, he really thought he could twist stuff Sam had said, Sam remembered exactly what he said, yet the fully hearing Dexter supposedly misheard what Sam said.

Sam may win, he might not, either way he has shown himself to be a loyal friend and a very genuine lad, you can't ask for more really.

Come on man, you're implying that Dexter believes Sam is stupid because he's deaf, and has decided that he's going to exploit that for his advantage.

All of this because Dexter paraphrased Sam's comments as "Don't talk to me because Callums left", instead of "Don't feel you need to talk to me because Callums left", or something like that. They're essentially the same thing, the schematics are just slightly different. You're trying to turn this into Dexter taking advantage of Sam because he's deaf and therefore, Dexter must think he's stupid. That's a GIGANTIC reach...

Nope, that was an example.
Dexter has never tried to have a conversation with Sam hardly in all the time they have been in there. Sam himself has stated how rude he has been to him. Ignoring him etc.
What you say is a slight difference in speech is quite a way off the mark, this taken with the way Dexter actually conveyed it has probably lost him any chance of winning.

I'm not sure I'm following...

You said:

and then:
Dexter is a prime example

Are you not calling Dexter a prime example of someone who thinks deaf people are stupid? That's how it comes across...

It also seems like Dexter is getting all the heat for him and Sam not getting on. It's a two way street though, do you really think Sam went out of his way to befriend Dexter all this time? I really think this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. Dexter and Callum had issues. Sam happens to be very tight with Callum, so him and Dexter weren't in a position to have a blossoming friendship. That's just how things played out. I really don't think it has anything to do with Sam being deaf, and that because of his deafness, Dexter thinks he's stupid and not friend material. I don't really care if Dexter wins, I'm not invested in any housemate like that.

Sleazy, pervy Sam is a very bad role model.

I agree with this post. He also has a terrible sense of humor and encourages avoiding socializing/problems by sleeping excessively (which can be an indication of depression, it's true, but isn't in and of itself anything to admire, and it's what he's mostly done in the house).

Hes just a regular housemate.

Yes he has hearing problems but I don't see that as a characteristic. He has been boring for weeks and only now is he showing he has a personality and even though ive enjoyed him standing up for himself he is a miserable person.

Sam gets away with shouting "Flash your gash for some pie and mash" at the knive throwers in a task but because its Sam its fine.

I think its patronising to him actually for BB not to tell him off for behaviour other housemates would not get away with.

Sam is a product of his society, a typical Welsh Valleys boys boy (actually hes 24 so mans, man).

If he said he wants to be a role model then yeah hes gone the wrong way about it but he may just mean he want people to see that people with certain disabilities can live normal lives to, which in a way does kind of make him a role model but hes opened himself up to more scrutiny by leading with the deaf card.

My behaviour is a million times worse than Sams so....

Then again I wouldn't go in the house and say im going to be a role model for homos and people with epilepsy because then you're expected to act a certain way.

Loving your "A vote for Sam to win is not a sympathy vote; it's a respect vote" sig.

What is a respect vote then? that's saying we should vote for him because we respect him because of his deafness, that's just as bad as a sympathy vote, and equally a wrong reason to vote for a HM...and im sure in real life Sam or those like him wouldn't want you or anyone else patronising him.

I don't agree with any thread that highlights a person's disability in either a negative..or positive way!...it is callousness personified!
Sam is just Sam!...I really do not think that he has in any way "played on his disability"...so in that respect for me...Sam is a good role model!
...Having said that...I have been saying for seven weeks or so..that "I know that Sam is boring, but I wouldn't mind him winning the dosh because he is a nice genuine 'non-gameplaying lad"!....but for the last couple of weeks...he has given me plenty of reason to doubt that initial assessment of him!...and now i've finally gotten the blinkers off and realised that the boy is not so innocent after all...he knows exactly what the score is, and is [and has been all along] playing a very smart and cunning game! :hmph:

oh...and by the way...excellent and correct post Matthew!
