It obviously was a joke, a bit of a slight overreaction, these are his sort of jokes.
Didn't see anyone in the house even flinch at it. As Livia said, everything Jim says has to be taken literally it seems.
I loved the bit actuaslly where Luisa more or less took on board that she had allowed the miserable Linda to likely influence her,now there was a revelation worth taking on board not this throwaway comment.
I doubt it will have done any harm to Jim at all.
I am just pleased to be seeing his funny side come out more in there but of course he cannot please everyone and it is their right to take the very slightest of things he says and take it seriously even when it is clearly all in jest.

the simple fact that you felt the need to promote dissention over something that way clearly a joke speaks volumes for your attitude towards someone who has been clear and truthful all the way along the programme. If this is yet another desperate attempt to blacken Jims character, it failed miserably.

I wasn't aware that Jims character was black, can you please post some current evidence of his misdoings. When I say current, lets go back say 24 years eh. For the last 24 years he has been whiter than Chalkie, its only people like you that cant drop the past, a little like Linda, you know the hag everyone has been slagging off for doing what you are now.
I might be grumpy but at least I don't hold grudges or grasp at straws with something that happened a quarter of a century ago and probably whilst you were still at school.

I agree with Mr. Wong. I have a problem with the frequency. The occasional joke is fair enough, but to continually refer to sex is sleazy. Jim is old enough to be her dad and encouraging her to relate to him as a father figure, then cracking crude jokes. Inappropriate. Why not joke about something else, like the situation they've been talking about. When I'm upset or ill, my boyfriend gives me hugs and cracks a joke about my situation. And he's not a comedian.

Jim is clearly of the old school he said to Luisa to tell him how he is sexist as he doesn't want to be,maybe ,just maybe Jim is trying to get into a newer way of thinking and is asking questions, you could tell he was a bit uncomfortable asking but I think he was genuinely interested in different lifestyles,If you don't ask,you don't learn.

That's how I saw it. I don't see how it could be offensive to Ollie considering Ollie has publicly admitted that he is bisexual, in fact it's his main storyline on Made In Chelsea as far as I'm aware, it might have been awkward for Ollie but he's not going to become more comfortable with it by not talking about it and Jim wasn't offensive in the way he asked IMO.

The refuge of a scoundrel - playing the "it's a joke card". That's what he said back in the 70s about Chalky White "it's just a joke, don't you have a sense of humour?" A clever tactic to shut people down.
All I can say is if that's a joke, the guy has the creepiest most unpleasant sense of humour around.

I don't think any of the others have really looked out for Casey though; a couple of them (Sam and Ollie) listened to her when she was crying her eyes out after Jasmine had been evicted and Lee was being foul to her but none of them seemed to give her any proper advice or take her seriously. At least the atmosphere is much better in the house now, a nice calming end to an explosive series.

Yeah asking someone if they have a boyfriend and saying you don't have a problem with them definitely means you do have a problem with them and are deeply homophobic, even though you've shown absolutely no malice towards that individual nor have you said anything out of order to him and you're only asking because the man in question publicly admits he's a bisexual, couldn't possibly be asking out of curiosity, no...

It was a joke. An old one. It was lighthearted. A bit blue and a bit edgy as lots of jokes are.
But 2 main things about it :
1. It was meant for Casey, it was Casey's sense of humour and she laughed.
2. It was meant as a compliment and boost to Casey about her looks on her hardest day yet in the house.
Also - so what if people want to tell edgy jokes anyway?
What gives anyone the right to tell others what they can or cannot laugh at?
If you don't like it - so what?
There are loads of jokes/comedians/tv shows that i don't like. And so what?
Who am i to tell people what they can and cannot laugh at?
Loads of successful 'bad taste' comics out there - Ricky Gervais, Frankie Boyle, Jimmy Carr.
Do you really want to live in an ultra-censored world where people are only allowed to tell knock-knock jokes?
Even if jokes aren't funny to me - even if they are offensive to me - i still defend peoples rights to tell them!

Great post. I agree with everything you say.

A blonde went to a Comet store sale and found a bargain. "I would like to buy this TV," she told the salesman.
"Sorry, we don't sell to blondes," he replied.
The blonde was very angry about this. She hurried home and dyed her hair, then came back and again told the salesman, "I would like to buy this TV."
"Sorry, we don't sell to blondes," he replied.
The blonde did not know how the salesman had recognized her. This time, she got a haircut and new color, a new outfit and big sunglasses. She then waited a few days before she approached the salesman.
"I would like to buy this TV."
"Sorry, we don't sell to blondes," he replied.
Frustrated, she exclaimed, "How do you know I'm a blonde?"
"Because that's a microwave," he replied.
Does this make me a sexist or is it just a joke.

Yes, let's blame his wife for being beaten. Because that's the classy thing to do.
I don't think that's what Kaz was meaning, she was just wondering why Jim only has a history of abuse with one wife, what was going on in his life that he resorted to such incidents etc... at least that particular marriage was short lived and his wife didn't put up with it for long, evidently they weren't right for each other.

We don't know if it was with just one wife. It's not something you shout out from the roof tops. Neither do you end up hurting someone physically because you're just not right for eachother.

Honestly, we had all sorts of questioning as to the housmates form each other in this series and to be quite frank, early on there was a great deal of behind Ollie's back speculation as to whether he was gay or bi sexual.
However talk about clutching at straws, Jim asked Ollie if he could ask him a personal question and did so then added did he mind him asking that.
Ollie's response was no he didn't mind, it wasn't a nasty question, housemates do try to learn as much about each other as they can,I saw not a thing wrong as to the question.
As to the title quote of this thread,Jim doesn't word everything right, no one can all the time.
At last however in the house with miserable Linda gone it does seem the remaining housemates are able to see a joke and take a joke and not look for petty moans at everything one or more of them say.
Even Luisa has become far more relaxed and happier.
This looks like heading for a good end to the series with a very happy house, having a lot of fun and banter,it is great to see too.

Absolutely love Jim and have been touched by the fact that family members of those that have nominated him/moaned at him for so long have recognised how lovely he is and has been. However, I must admit that that joke made be gag a bit, then laugh, the feel bad that I laughed, then gag a bit more, then shrug and think "Edgy, but that's what makes him a successful comedian".

Was not the time or place for that. Casey looked uncomfortable after a forced laugh
...this 'old school' thing is so annoying because Jim's is a specific humour that does and has always appealed to some people but never appealed to others, even 'back in the day'...yes, I know that there were other comedians with a similar humour but there was also many comedians who didn't make 'ist' jokes..sexist/racist etc...humour is and has always been subjective to what we each personally find amusing and his humour has never been my thing, nor do I personally know any 'real life' older people who thought it was funny or said anything similar themselves...to me the 'old school' is never any excuse either because he's lived many years in between to know better about some of the things he says...
..anyway, that aside, I didn't see all of CBB last night so didn't see a question to Ollie..?...but I did see the thing with Casey...I think it was a dumb thing to say, if he had thought about what he was actually saying..he's said a few similar things since being in the house and the main reason I think that it's dumb is because of the Yewtree thing and I believe/think that the investigations into him were from allegations from 20 something females..?...so if he thought about it, then it's something that maybe he would think it was maybe something he shouldn't say...but he obviously hasn't thought like that and has just made what is 'typical of his humour', which to me at least shows a more relaxed Jim/un guarded Jim and his humour has always been controversial and very much not to everyone's taste...I don't think his comment to Casey was anything more than a jokey one, maybe a silly on to make in view of the fact that he's trying to change public opinion of himself, but it doesn't either make me think... ughhh, so he hasn't changed at all as a person because I personally have seen some surprising positive qualities in him through his time in the house and think he's probably a bit of a 'work in progress' but still maybe learning and reflecting on his past mistakes..I hope this whole thing and the positive support he has had will help and encourage him...as for his humour, well I'll probably never like that and will leave it to people who do because it is just a personal taste...
..actually, that was a bit of a long drawn out post....what I mean is that Jim has always had a very dubious sense of humour, that's largely what makes him so controversial, so I'm not sure what the comment to Casey 'revealed'...nothing really, for me anyway...he's not the first comedian, either past, present or probably in the future to push boundaries with his humour and maybe sometimes be a bit 'inappropriate' with it...
..as a person and a housemate...he's been a key person in the series/definitely flawed with good and bad like all of them/showed some admirable self control and as worthy a winner as anyone...
..I'd still rather Luisa won though.....
casey was laughing. Thank god she has a sense of humour and does not take jim literally.
exactly, one of jims funniest yet in my opinion.

I think it depends on your own mind really, when he said that, I laughed and moved on ,forgot about it until it was posted on here, the joke has been used in films and has been around years and has also been used by women about fit men,,cant believe no one has heard it before,I think because people have a pre-conception of Jim,they will be offended because it seems PC to be offended by those sort of jokes, and things he says, its like the shirt lifter comment, were people REALLY offended by that?
Whether said in jest or not, it was a very silly thing to say, and obviously will be picked up on, can't see BOTs letting that comment slide at all.

have you ever seen any Carry On movies? Jokes are all about sex.
A film is a different thing.. Casey is a real person, and Jim is speaking to her from a fatherly point of view, asking for hugs, then cracking sexual jokes afterwards.
We've seen Dappy and Luisa tackle Lee and give him quite assertive counsel about the messages he has been giving out, but when Ollie and Dappy were speaking to Lee after Casey's mother left, Jim said something along the lines of "surely it's none of our business" then asked to go into the bathroom where Casey was crying, saying "I can get nowhere with the boys." or words to that effect.
