The fan favourite is being killed off this year and - for once in soap - there's no chance of a shock return from the dead.

Ashley Slanina-Davies is gearing up to film her final scenes as Amy and there's already a sneak peek of her exit in Hollyoaks' action-packed New Year trailer, which has been released this afternoon (January 3).

The final shots of the promo show Amy's partner Ryan Knight (Duncan James) arriving home to their flat and making the terrible discovery that she's passed away.

Hollyoaks have officially confirmed that there will be a death in the Nightingale family soon - and thanks to the magic of the Hollygoss series, Nathan Nightingale star Jared Garfield has been dropping some hints as to which family member could be about to leave the show.


"Big day today: we're filming a funeral," Jared shared in the video. "And it's an even bigger day because we've got Linda Gray who's come back to make her Hollyoaks return.

"It's a Nightingale funeral, because Linda Gray is Nana Nightingale.

"I can't tell you whose funeral it is, obviously, but I'll give you a clue... it's one of the kids."

So that narrows it down to Nathan himself or one of the three other Nightingale children: Ellie (Sophie Porley), Alfie (Richard Linnell) or James (Gregory Finnegan).

Of course the rumour mill has been speculating over a possible Nightingale death since we saw Dallas legend Linda Gray returning to set to film a funeral with no sign of father Mac or James on the scene.

This has led many fans to suggest that the unlucky Nightingale will be none other than James himself, with fans citing John Paul McQueen's rumoured explosive car accident as the event that will set the scenes for his departure.

And while there hasn't been any confirmation either way, Gregory Finnegan was the only Nightingale not to be papped at the filming of the mysterious funeral, so make of that what you will.

Of course, we wouldn't put it past Hollyoaks to have planned all of that as one big massive fake out, so we guess now only time will tell whether the fan theories - and the paparazzi photos - are right.

Hollyoaks star Duncan James revealed Ryan Knight's dark secret live on This Morning today (May 22).

Viewers know that Duncan's character Ryan has been keen to cover up his actions from the night Amy Barnes died, leading some fans to speculate that he might have been the person responsible.

However, it seems there is another explanation for Ryan's mysterious behaviour – he was actually cheating on his new wife when she was murdered.

Duncan dropped the big bombshell during a live interview earlier, revealing that Ryan was sleeping with Adam Rickitt's character Kyle on the night Amy was killed.
