Love Island will be BACK for a third series of the hit show next summer in 2017.

The final of this summer's second series only finished tonight but ITV2 have confirmed it's already been recommissioned for 2017.

This year's series began on May 30th as eleven singletons arrived in a luxury villa in the hope of finding love, and has gone on to become compulsive summer viewing, growing its audience week on week throughout the series.

The show has achieved record viewing figures this year - doubling last year's series average - to rival shows on the 'big five' stations.

Rosemary Newell, Head of Digital Channels and Acquisitions for ITV, said: “Love Island has come back so strong this year, and become unmissable viewing, particularly with younger viewers, which is our focus on ITV2 .

"As six weeks of hugely entertaining television come to a close, we’re delighted to be bringing the show back for a another run next year.”

Richard Cowles, Creative Director ITV Studios, said: "We couldn't be more proud of the show which has found its perfect match in ITV2. Definitely the best winners. Honest from the very start, both of them originals never wavered when other people came in. I would bet my house on the fact that Alex and Olivia WONT stay together once they are out. He isn't as into her as he pretends. I didn't see the appeal in her whatsoever and couldn't understand why most the men were salivating over her at one point (Daniel, Javi, Rykard, Adam, Alex). The majority of the other female Islanders were far better looking than her.

I don't think she's a nasty or malicious person or anything but she was just annoying and really hypocritical in that situation with Zara and Alex which made me go off her even more.

Malin's eviction was tense to watch. It was quite suspensful and I'm shocked at how she stayed over Tina and Liana. Nobody in the villa expected it too which made it even better. The way they revealed it was cruel but it was good to watch. I'm sad she's gone as I liked her but perched for her return to drag Terry.

I really like Liana. Her pulling up Adam over his comment and him just sat there eating rice cakes. And her burnt lips are making me laugh and her sunbathing with her face covered with a bling scarf. :joker:

I agree, they should've dedicated more of the episode towards the other couples, especially the finalists. It was all about Malin and the Terry/Emma situation but I'm not surprised because that's probably the biggest talking point/storyline of the series, but it would've been nice to see Kady/Scott as they were practically edited out of it and Cara/Nathan didn't get much airtime either. Also Zara deserved to be featured as well given the whole losing her crown thing and having to leave, she was one of the main talking points too.

They should've done what they do in the IAC Coming out show and do it in the order they left with a few minutes dedicated to each Islander (not all 50 of them but just the main ones including the finalists) and then show the wrap party at the end.

And I also agree that it felt a tad scriped. You could tell when the evicted Islanders were watching the show at home with friends that it wasn't the first time they had originally watched it.

But nonetheless I still enjoyed it, it just could've been better. :p

I was a little let down overall... all the contrived confrontations seemed ... well contrived and unsatisfying.
Of course all the couples are still all together and in love (gag) and them trying to give Terry the I'm-so-sorry-now-that-social-media-has-roasted-me-for-my-abysmal-behaviour-and-I-know-about-it edit, was just not what I wanted to see.

I want them to film a what are they all doing now show and air it a week before next season... see if any of them last a year (my money is on none... well, maybe Cara and Nathan)

Watched the episode Tom and Liana were evicted last night.

Ugh I cannot abide Olivia. She went to the whole group and ****-stirred by saying everything Sophie had said about Emma being a gameplayer and then sat back as all the other Islanders started gathering around her whilst Emma and Terry were ganging up on her. Nasty thing is they all waited till Tom left to start on her. I'm so glad Sophie stuck up for herself and clocked Terry.

I'm also disappointed in Kady and Cara just sitting there, especially Kady as she stirred the pot with Olivia.

I don't like Emma at all, she's just a twat. And Sophie was right about her and her OTT sex theatrics just screamed attention-seeker to me. Her and Terry can do one. Malin got a lucky escape :clap1:

I finished catching up with the 3 weeks that I had missed.

Malin returning was so tense. I loved it. Her clocking Terry when she returned. :clap1: And her cackling at the end when he walked off :laugh3:

Katie annoyed me a lot with the way she treated Sophie and pretty much turned the whole villa against her. It was her OTT reaction which eventually led Sophie to walk. And I felt really sorry for her and everyone was ignoring her in the villa. Her ugly **** of a brother slagging off Sophie when the family members came in on the last day :umm2:

The new Adam was annoying.

Emma was just a horrible bitch and I've always hated Terry. Both have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I'm glad they're hated and rightfully so.

I loved Kady and Scott. Kady was brilliant and she grew on me a lot. Her possessive fumes at Scott when he was contributing to the decision of which new girl should come in made me scream. I'm annoyed they finished 3rd place. They should've easily outlasted Alex and Olivia (both trash) and finished runners-up instead.

The Islanders I like most are Zara, Malin, Sophie, Kady, Scott, Cara, Nathan and Liana. Don't care about the rest.
