CONFIRMED: New Exterior and House for BB17

Big Brother House Elstree Film and Studios, Shenley Road, Borehamwood
On behalf of my client Endemol UK Ltd, please find enclosed an application for planning
permission for the installation of additional studio sets at land adjacent to the Big Brother House.

It is vital for the longevity of the show that it is constantly evaluated and refreshed, and
Endemol and Channel Five want to make some changes to the set for the next and subsequent
series.

This application seeks to extend the set of the Big Brother House at the north east corner and to create an additional external area within the compound of the Big Brother
House. As you are aware there is an acoustic/visual fence around the perimeter of the House,
and Endemol proposes to extend the fence along the boundary to this new set. The
application also proposes to replace the existing temporary steel studio structure located to
the north-west of the House. The studio is used for interviewing contestants and the current
structure is unsuitable for use in bad weather conditions.
Accordingly planning permission is sought for the following:
‘Erection of an additional television production set and a television studio, and creation of an
additional external area within the Big Brother House associated with the production of Big
Brother. Extension of acoustic and visual fence to the north east corner of the Big Brother compound’.

So endemol have just applied to the council to revamp the house. Looks like we're finally getting a proper outside studio! As well as an extended house, which seems to have a second story?

Yeah I noticed these too. They're from mid-January. It's kinda making me excited for BB17 ngl. But it really says a lot when the exterior of the house is the thing getting me excited for the series, when on C4 they'd make changes yearly and they weren't much of a big deal. But I guess that just shows how much we're in need of a new exterior tbh :laugh:

The left hand side part is labelled as a new section of the house, it has definatly got two floors and it seems like there is an entrance on the new Presenters catwalk that is on the ground level to the new house section. So they might actually be entering through there instead of the via the stairs they use now. I think they might do a two house twist with it being the first season with such a big space.

They have been able to have an upstairs area where the DR was for a few series. So we know they can make at least that upper half of the studio with two floors.

Had a look through the plans and this is great. Now I'm believing Ben Frow with his 'big changes' comment. We're getting a bigger house/set, a proper studio eviction set will be constructed and it looks like they're trying to make the audience area a bit more open.

The covering letter on the application states they want this approved asap (at the March committee), so it can be ready for this years summer series. Hopefully this will mean a June launch (can't see them getting all this rushed through ready for May).

The way the contract was set up, C5 were supposed to have the current exterior until next year but looks like they've bought themselves out of that - unless they keep elements.

Well, yeah it kind of is. BB14/CBB13 wasn't as bad as it is now in terms of nomination twists and meddling. It's a rarity nowadays to have a round of nominations with no twist of some sort attached to it.

But nominations are the thing it shouldn't be affecting IMO, and that's all they want to do seemingly. Some of the great C4 twists, like the House Divide, Fake eviction and HND had no effect on nominations.

I've been reading through the plans again and this honestly sounds bloody brilliant. A two story house is something that a lot of people have wanted for a while, so it'll be great to have that with the new extension on the house. The fact that they're also building a separate eviction studio will be brilliant as well - finally, the crowd won't be able to ruin any more interviews :clap1:. Outside the house, it looks like they're going for a BB11-type eviction set (walkway in front of the house rather than between the crowd), which should look quite good. All in all, it all looks fantastic and has given me a bit of hype for the summer!

Oh no, I loved 2012. BB13's my favourite C5 series, don't get me wrong.

But I wouldn't class that as the golden era. With BB14 and CBB13, both shows were the highest rated on 5, at the time (BB14 still is for BB and CBB13 is only narrowly lower than CBB15 - which is the current highest) and there was an increased hype and publicity in both the formats and felt more of an event.
