View Full Version : Mass shooting and hostages taken at gay nightclub in Orlando...

What we are hearing is that he actively tried to pick men up during those visits. And you don't need a gay dating profile to do reconnaissance on a club.
He was gay, or at least bisexual. And I think he shot the club up because it was convenient to shoot up a place he knew well. Just like the san bernardino couple shot up his workplace.
I'm not refuting the suggestion he was possibly gay. I'm saying he was a near perfect candidate for IS and their call for Muslims to murder Westerners.

Not sure if it's been posted in here amongst all the "was it or wasn't it terrorism" stuff but there's a donations page for victims of the shooting here:
https://www.gofundme.com/PulseVictimsFund
Already raised $4.5m of its $6m target in three days. (well, the original target was $100,000 lol)

Wow, that's amazing.
without sounding harsh what is the point?
Because the money's being shared between the victims' families and funerals cost a lot of money and because some people in the world are quite nice?

So families are not left in debt...debt does not die with you...funeral costs...some of the injured may not be insured may not be able to work etc

Funeral costs for those that didn't make it, hospital fees for those that did, I'd imagine are the two big ones - they're working with a charity that did similar for the victims of the Aurora cinema shooting, and one in Chattanooga.
Edit: hadn't considered the debts problem that Cherie pointed out either, that's something to worry about from the bereaved's perspective.

I don't really get it when it comes to the victims who have sadly been killed. A bit of money isn't going to help anyone... in fact... if a loved one of mine had died and someone came along saying "Aww no here you go have £100,000" I think I'd be pretty pissed off.
I *do* understand the need to raise money for those who were injured though. This is the US... medical bills can end up costing a small fortune. Imagine being injured in something like this, through no fault of your own, and then also lumped with a load of debt because you dared to survive? 'Murca.

I'd venture that since the donations are so high, perhaps some of it would go towards repairs in the nightclub? Can't imagine that's an easy clean-up job :(

It depends. Some of those who were killed will have partners. They may of been buying a house together and dependant on two salaries. They may have children who could suffer from a single parents financial problems. If it helps to pay debts that has to be a good thing.

I would have thought that there would have been some kind of government compensation. I know we have a criminal injuries compensation scheme here.

the left wing have thrown in too much apologist style defending to an ideology, that throws gays of roofs, or have them killed in any manner, and the hypocrisy of hillary clinton, and obama to attack donald trump, and not once have they attacked this ideology, or the person who killed in that night club, the liberal westerners, don't see the whole world as one big bad place, they see are planet wrapped up in cotton wool with PC rules, its like when owen jones walked out, on sky news, because his bubble was burst, when jim davidson called brian a shirtlifter, as a joke, the public nearly lynched him, and when winston mckenzie was being interrogated by emma, I thought you are a hypocrite girl, because if he was part of the other ideology, you would never of brought it up, this part of the world has sugarcoated over one thing to another, and that is what's wrong with the left wing.
..I read the other day that the donation fund was the fastest growing in history so hopefully it'll cover all expenses for the families with medical bills and funeral expenses.....people feeling helpless but doing anything that they possibly can and a reminder of the good in people which is a balance that's so needed...
...on a bit of a negative and I think really relevant to what Owen Jones was also saying...is that apparently the restrictions on blood donations in terms of homosexual men, after the massacre were still upheld...blood was obviously desperately needed..(and is always needed..).. but some is refused because of who a person loves and because of their sexuality....there are some things that just couldn't 'happen to any of us', no matter how much sadness etc we may feel and how mush empathy we may feel..we will never actually feel and experience those prejudices/discriminations/those hates, which so many still do...this massacre could not have happened to any of us because it was very specific in it's target...some terrorist attacks could happen to any of us but this isn't one of them...maybe Owen shouldn't have walked out but his frustrations that the hate acted on in the Pulse nightclub and the emotions he must have been feeling in the immediate after-math and that it was just not being understood or acknowledged at all by them...I mean they just didn't get it, that 'any one of us' could not feel that hate and could not have felt prejudices that are still there and still very apparent in society...and then for Julia Hartley-Brewer to assume being any sort of 'spokesperson' for something she completely didn't get at all....
...anyways, we've come a long way as societies, I know with the acceptance of homosexuality...but a startling reminder of how far the journey still has to go...

Strong post as always.
I applauded Owen Jones walking out on the Sky News press review,he was clearly hurting for the victims of this hate massacre, as well as being wound up by them trying to separate this from not only likely being a terrorist crime but also a specifically targeted hate crime against the LGBT section of the community.
I was infuriated at Julia Hartley-Brewer not showing more sensitivity.
Then again overall I am usually disappointed at what she says anyway.
Are we honestly using Jim Davidson's homophobia as an example of how we are supposed to react to Orlando now because dear lord

At that stage, the sexuality of the shooter wasn't known. I would be interested to hear Owen Jones' opinion now that we know the shooter is gay.
