Interestingly the official ratings for ITV2s Love Island have come out with a strong consolidated 1.25 million viewers in its first week. Compared with last year's 0.50 million viewers and BB16 (timebombs) overall series official of 1.36 million viewers, is it considered more successful than BB, in terms of viewership loyalty, profit etc. For the channels? Also could we see any LI contestants appear in future BB or even CBB series? And is the reason for on par ratings due to LI's success stealing from a typically loyal BB fan base? Interested to hear everyone's points!

Umm most of BB17's overnights have been around 1.2-4M, so expect like 1.5-1.8M officials for BB.

Get those ratings LI :clap1:

They deserve it tbh - they went all out with the promotion this year and it paid off for them. Not to mention this year's Islanders are great too and it's better than last years series so far.

I wouldn't be surprised if it gets re-commissioned for a third series next year tbh.

BB won't get 1.7m/1.8m in the officials.

It'll most likely get around 1.4/1.5m - 1.6m if it's high and they're lucky.

Love Island is a tad boring I don't know why so many people watch it

The 1.4M overnights will. There's only been 2 but still.

I don't get the point unless I'm reading the OP wrong

Why are you comparing this years LI ratings with Timebomb ratings instead of this years BB? What does it prove?

So many of BB16's officials didn't include +1. around 30 episodes.

comparing 2 series which aired in different years doesn't really work though. As of now, BB has beaten LI in the past 2 years

We'll see the officials for the first few days tomorrow. I predict ~1.5-1.6m for most shows

Love Island has a simple format with fewer characters who you get to know.

Big Brother has too many housemates and the twists distract from what is going on.

Without the live feed, BB is just any other reality show and it loses it's appeal.

And yeah why are you comparing last year's BB to this year's LI?

Both series have increased from their last year's run.

Zara has been funnier on Love Island than anyone on BB. And Kady is a right little cow who I can't help but like.

Yeah, but there's a core group. The others are extras.

The big difference between LI and BB these days is that LI has a pre determined format that its fans understand and can follow. BB has no definition and the producers run the show whichever way they think the show should go.

On LI the fans are boss, on BB the prods are Boss and the fans don't matter.

On LI we get the same types all the time and they are from simple backgrounds. On BB the HM's are picked because of the degree of mayhem they are likely to cause and their antics in the house are Faux so it throws the dynamics way off and creates issues for the fans.

I think I have to agree with this for the most part...

I prefer LI rt now because I know what I am getting... They know what they are selling...and they aren't afraid to own it.

It's true to it's format... And really light hearted compared to BB which tries to hard to produce drama and twists that go no where

It was merely a point of interest that LIs audience has almost trebled, while BBs has had only a small increase, it's interesting to wonder where these extra viewers have come from and how the two shows perform side by side

Apparently LI gained 1.13m viewers (inc. +1) as Zara lost her miss GB crown for having sex on the show, while BB had 1.09 (inc. +1)

LI is a huge success. I bet C5 can't wait until it ends.

Could it be the LI are flourishing at the hands of BB defectors. I have never watched LI before but I do now. I like the format of LI because you know what you are getting but with BB its all about what the Prods want you to know and the reality format seems to have been replaced by enforced scripting in part.

Nobody likes to be told they are wrong or what to do so the prods are not doing themselves any favours by being guarded and keeping BB viewers and fans of the show outside the loop. It used to be a show driven by fan opinions, its now become something entirely different, hence the mass migration of fans.
