Omg that scene where they knocked the chick in the nest out of the three was horrendous :umm2:

WHy would the producers allow them to do that?

TomC

Oh I actually wanted JP to stay cos he's hot and Steph seems a bit weak

TomC

I will never be able to tell Sundra and Rebecca apart. Too much dead wood in this season.

TomC

Is Fiji better or worse than Cook Islands?

Cook Islands is okay - it's watchable and entertaining, just not very memorable... very few standout characters if any.

Definitely better, although not by a huge amount... if that makes sense

Imo no. Its completly awful so its worse.

Ugh not happy CaiBoi was messy and Cristina seemed nice and her tribe weren't that nice to her.

Here's my ranking of the final 13:

Brad (Best)
Becky
Yul
Parvati
Ozzy
Nate
Sundra
The alternative white girl
Jenny
Candace
Rebecca
The older white girl
Adam (Worst, but meh)

Asians ftw tbh.

Fiji for me is one of the worst seasons of survivor - I found it worse. 13,14 is a really bad streak of survivor sadly. Although 15 [China] is great, and so is 16 and 17l

JerseyWins
26-12-2016, 08:16 PM
Cook Islands is an all-time worst season for me while Fiji is at least a few spots higher than my bottom 3.

Off the top of my head right now I'd probably say my worst is between Cook Islands & Vanuatu followed closely by South Pacific. I think Fiji would be above my bottom 5 but probably not by that much. Dreamz was highly entertaining and there was plenty of drama within the non-luxury tribe at least.

Winner spoiler
Earl was a very satisfying winner as well.

I'd say Fiji is better for Yau-Man, whilst I didn't find anyone rootable in Cook Islands but neither are good seasons

Macie Lightfoot
26-12-2016, 08:57 PM
Fiji is Not Good but it's light years ahead of Cook Islands, which is truly abysmal and contrived and not fluid whatsoever. The pre-merge for Fiji is pretty dire but the post-merge does pick up a bit (not quite as much as a season like San Juan del Sur did, but still)

TomC
27-12-2016, 03:36 PM
ugh not Brad </3 So random how they started the jury phase with 12 people left in the game.

Rebecca and Adam are huuuuge deadweight.

She was okay. I did like her feistyness but she also seemed kinda cocky in the game?

TomC
27-12-2016, 06:35 PM
Have I passed this controversial twist I've read about on the Survivor sub-reddit spoiler-free ranking? Nothing seems too controversial yet.

MB.
27-12-2016, 06:44 PM
I'm assuming it's the racial divide, so yes

MB.
27-12-2016, 06:45 PM
(unless it's the mutiny or the message in the bottle, which I don't think were particularly controversial)

Macie Lightfoot
27-12-2016, 06:52 PM
She was okay. I did like her feistyness but she also seemed kinda cocky in the game?

Jenny unfortunately didn't exist much because Cook Islands really marks the start of girls not appearing in episodes until they become alternate boot targets BUT if you pay enough attention to her you can notice her moments of greatness. And then there's also her vote for Cristina. And there's something else that I don't want to spoil yet but it's HILARIOUS to me.

(unless it's the mutiny or the message in the bottle, which I don't think were particularly controversial)

The bottle is usually the shining example people use when making their "surely this is rigged" debates, but I think from a more general audience standpoint the the mutiny and even the initial race divide are more controversial. The racial divide doesn't even seem like a proper twist now that we live in a world that includes #WhatCollarRU and #HowDoYouText as part of canon but man it was huuuuugely controversial at the time and people thought it was definitely the beginning of the end for Survivor.

MB.
27-12-2016, 06:57 PM
Yeah, in the general context of the show, I think the racial divide is what Reddit would point out as being most controversial, as clearly contrived and pertaining to circumstance as the bottle twist was and how... well, everything about the mutiny

TomC
27-12-2016, 06:59 PM
It was a mid-season twist they were referring to. And I don't see why the mutiny or bottle message should be seen as controversial except I've already forgotten whether the bottle twist was revealed before or after the challenge was finished? If it was after, I can easily see why.

MB.
27-12-2016, 07:01 PM
Pretty sure it was after the challenge and it's been pretty widely speculated that it would have read differently (a merge announcement if I recall correctly? I probably don't, it's been a while) if it had been the other tribe

TomC
27-12-2016, 09:44 PM

Mhmm, the idea of production instructing Aitu to vote out literally half of their tribe seems a little hard to believe. And then white people would win out and blah blah blah. Nothing concrete but definitely makes you raise and eyebrow #dotdotdotHMMMM

TomC
27-12-2016, 10:04 PM
Okay what do people think about Candice and Jonathan? I think it was kinda bitchy of Candice to stir up all that **** with Jonathan.

TomC
27-12-2016, 10:08 PM
Cook Islands is pretty unpopular right? At this stage I don't really understand why. Slow burner, but it's had a pretty good run of episodes since about Episode 5.

Macie Lightfoot
27-12-2016, 10:25 PM
The cast is just plain bad and bloated with too much fodder, and the narrative is a complete mess. I know Cambodia loves to jerk itself off to being a huge EVOLUTION OF THE GAME (as does MvGX), but Cook Islands really piloted that whole shtick of inconsistent edits and dropped storylines. Like, remember when Cristina went from adorable underdog to annoying phony who no one liked the very next episode? It was like they assigned one person from the editing team to edit each episode in a vacuum, and then they just pieced the season together without double checking anything.

I definitely don't contest there was a lot of fodder, but there were also plenty to root for and some interesting characters I think. I actually liked Cristina throughout - it was when nobody liked her that I supported her the most as I felt sorry for her.

And there do seem to have been storylines such as Aitu bouncing back, the Candice and Adam thing, Cristina vs her tribe and Jonathan vs everyone.

The start was pretty bad though, and some people needed more airtime - this is honestly the case in every season after All-Stars though I'd say.

I'll avoid reading that just in case I've forgotten his face by the time I come to that season.

MB.
28-12-2016, 12:38 AM
Unless you take a very long hiatus after you finish Cook Islands, you won't

Still, knowing the winner doesn't ruin a season and in some cases can actually improve it, since you get to track their winner's arc and look a little deeper into the edit (which is one of the joys of re-watching)

JerseyWins
28-12-2016, 07:25 AM
I really don't like to know the winner before watching either, which is the main reason I've still not watched the early Big Brother US seasons, but I guess it doesn't ruin a season since I was 99% sure about who won Cagayan and it's still my favorite season ever. But I'm glad I was able to avoid spoilers when I was watching (aside from like 2-3 seasons... Micronesia, RI, not sure if any others). The surprise element from not knowing the winner is much better.

Cook Islands:

Becky
Ozzy
Cristina
Sundra
Parvati
Yul
Nate
Cao Boi
Jenny
JP
Billy
Jonathan
Stephannie
Jessica
Rebecca
Cecilia
Sekou
Candice
Adam

I actually quite liked this season - it exceeded my expectations. Bad start, but it turned out quite well. The Aitu comeback was great viewing, and there was a fair number of rootable characters and also a lot of Survivor firsts.
Probably would come just below the middle in my season rankings?

Macie Lightfoot
28-12-2016, 11:47 PM
yeah I think one's enjoyment of Cook Islands depends on how much of the Aitu 4 you can stomach, and I can't really stand them at all so :) I can ironically appreciate Ozzy for being a shameless douchebag depending on the day, but Yul and Becky and Sundra are all varying shades of awful to me.

Not to mention that the final three is an abomination and THE worst twist in Survivor history. Not only for the possibility of a tie (Jeff has confirmed that the jury would revote if there was ever a tie), but because it makes the final IC worth a lot less and it makes it easier to get to the end and it has lead to bloated juries and a bunch of other bul****.

Also, my favorite Jenny Thing is that she voted for Ozzy, someone she had never even met, over Becky and Yul because she hated them that much :love::love:

I agree about the F3 too, I don't like that - I'm sure Ozzy would have won if they'd gone for an extra episode and an extra immunity challenge. The jury felt quite watered down this time.

Tbh Survivor I find rarely has a satisfying endgame; it's just some years are worse than others and I found this group facing the jury much less offensive than some other years. (namely S5, S6, S8, S9, S11 and S12 in particular)

I've just started Fiji - looks like the diverse casting of Cook Islands has rubbed off and I'm glad about that.

MB.
29-12-2016, 11:50 AM
/they had to try and make it seem as if Cook Islands wasn't a publicity stunt, which in itself is kinda redundant once you realise that there were originally five people of each ethnicity in Fiji's cast, suggesting that they'd have done the same twist had somebody not dropped out immediately before filming

Oh wow I'm happy about that - the lack of diversity in some series was pathetic. Eg. Season 11 literally only having Lydia iirc?

I think I'm the only one who strongly disliked Yau-Man. I just found him so irritating and he had such a sense of entitlement.

Season 14 really does have one of the most mean/horrible casts [Second to season 30 from what I remember], I only remember liking Earl, Michelle and Cassandra.

re: diversity -- I think it's a great thing as long as the cast still delivers. I don't think the Cook Islands cast delivered. TomC
02-01-2017, 09:31 PM
I'm really annoyed that the end of the Fiji final was cut off so I didn't see the vote or winner reveal! But wow at the first clean sweep vote in Survivor history

Fiji:
Yau-Man
Earl
Michelle
Sylvia
Stacy
Edgardo
Lisi
Rita
Cassandra
Dreamz
Gary
Boo
Anthony
Erica
Alex
Mookie
Liliana
Jessica
Rocky

Hmm really not sure how to feel about this season. Few likeable people, but I must say Dreamz' betrayal of Yau-Man is definitely one of the biggest moments of the first fourteen seasons.

Alex and Lisi both really disappointed me at the FTC - Alex was a total c * n t tbh.

Rocky is on the same tier as Judd in terms of awfulness of characters.

DouglasS
02-01-2017, 09:41 PM
22,23,24 is an awful phase of survivor - like really, really boring, each of these seasons is just bad, and I'd probably recommend skipping or separating them as watching all three together made me stop watching survivor for awhile.

25,26,27,28,29 is quite a good run of survivor however

I enjoyed 25, 27, 28, 32 very much from post 20.
25 was refreshing and felt very back to basics for survivor for me, it's cast was brilliant and was very much needed after 22-24 - a really top tier season.
27 implemented a new twist, and I really liked this twist in both S27 and S29, I really liked the cast and the emotion in this season
28 similarly to 25 was survivor back in form and at its basic formulae, seriously good season
32 also same as 25/28

21 had a really good pre-merge but post merge was kinda meh
26 is a average bog standard season [So I really enjoyed it, but it's not one of the best, it's literally just a middle tier season]
29 had a boring pre merge but a really good post merge [opposite to 21 aha]
30 was just not a good season [casting wasn't very good]
31 was really exciting/had a good pre-merge, but was a little bit too predictable and I found the editing to be a bit of a problem

For me I'd say 28 > 27 > 25 > 32 > 26 > 32 > 29 >>>>> 21 > 22 > 23 > 24 > 31 > 30

reece(:
02-01-2017, 09:48 PM
And the others?

22 and 23 are bottom of barrel

Not many like 24 but I personally enjoyed it
26 is trash and unbalanced edit wise
27 is a plain season, nothing brilliant happens even in the "game changing" moves
30 was just depressing throughout but a good conclusion
31 fell flat, also had huge problems with the edit
33 I didn't enjoy whatsoever and also problematic with the editing

Love Courtney and Todd as a duo so far, and Ashley and Lesley were robbed favourites! Jean-Robert is a tad awful

Good season so far! Fairly entertaining, nothing too complex gameplay-wise though

Todd is a mastermind <3 (But im also not happy cos I love PG, Jaime and Sherea and likes the idea of them being in the majority)

China is a top tier season for sure. There's not one person who doesn't deliver in some way.

I think Upolu is up there as one of the most complex tribes in Survivor history. Like, on the surface there was a clear group of insiders and outsiders and that's not exciting, but the workings of the in-crowd and the use of religion as a tool of unity and manipulation is just fascinating to me.

(in spoilers for Tom's sake and it spoils the F3 and winner)
ESPECIALLY because Coach was the main person pushing it forth and he so thought it was going to ride it to the win, and then it all imploded in his face at the Final TC and Sophie, someone who has absolutely zero tolerance for bull**** and was placed on a tribe fueled entirely by bull****, demolished him. I remember reading something about how Coach left FTC somehow thinking he won (?!?!?!?!) and that just makes it that much more hilarious to me.

TomC

Eww I just feel my mind is so plagued with so many Survivor spoilers and I hate it :( Just ran through all castaways from Seasons 1-15 and realised I already know at least 12 people who are in HvV.

Just finished China. Thoroughly enjoyable season; outstanding cast (as well as being insanely likeable for the most part), lots of great moments and a very satisfying endgame. Honestly, that was my favourite F3 out of the first fifteen seasons. It was nice to have a return to what felt more like the 'classic' seasons of Survivor (1-7, I think that's what they're called lmao).

It's really interesting how Todd pretty much controlled the game from Day 1. It was intriguing how up to a point he literally controlled what the alliance did, but he got away with it because he was just so likeable. I think Amanda lost it when she started playing 'woe is me' - I actually think she was a really good Survivor player too.

Jean-Robert and Dave were great panto villains, the word panto being why they don't go in red; only truly awful people like Judd and Rocky go in red in my Survivor watches.

China:
Todd
Courtney
Amanda
Peih-Gee
Leslie
James
Ashley
Jaime
Sherea
Frosti
Chicken
Erik
Denise
Dave
Aaron
Jean-Robert

Looking forward to starting Micronesia tomorrow: I know Fairplay, Ami, Eliza, Parvati, Ozzy and Yau-Man return and I'm pretty enthustiastic to see all of them play again in a different setting.

Somewhat humouring sidenote: I just watched the vote count with Russian subtitles for fear of the winner being spoiled at the start of the reunion like it was with Fiji, but I went through it for nothing :bawling: Really killed the tension

07-01-2017, 03:28 PM
Ah yes, I forgot I said to myself I'd redo my season rankings after finishing China:

Palau
China
Borneo
Marquesas
Pearl Islands
Panama
Guatemala
Africa
The Austrlian Outback
The Amazon
Cook Islands
Fiji
Vanuatu
Thailand/All-Stars

I am quite conflicted at my top end. Like Borneo is definitely better than Marquesas so that's fine, but then I also looveee Palau and China and it's hard to compare them with the Borneo/Marquesas.

From Wikipedia about Gabon: "Host Jeff Probst originally ranked Gabon 14th out of 19 seasons in 2010, thus ranking it as the sixth-worst season of the series.[34] He later went on to say that the show was drifting during Gabon and that he nearly quit the show as a consequence.[35] Dalton Ross of Entertainment Weekly ranked Gabon in the bottom ten for worst seasons of the series, summarizing: "It got better near the end, but it was still a case of too little, too late. The fact that so many unworthy players went so far is simply too damning."[36] Gabon is ranked as the second-worst season of the series by Examiner.com (only ahead of Survivor: Fiji), The Wire (only ahead of Survivor: Redemption Island), and fan site "The Purple Rock Podcast" (only ahead of Survivor: Nicaragua).[37][38] In 2012 and 2013, Survivor fan site "Survivor Oz" consistently ranked Gabon as the eighth-worst season of the series in its annual polls ranking all seasons; however, Gabon improved significantly in 2014, when it was voted as the tenth-best season"

WHY IS IT SO UNDERAPPRECIATED

Still, Amanda would have had the backing of Cirie and Parv (pretty sure they'll be F3) so she didn't need it anyway

Omg I'm sold on this season!! Erik giving up immunity is just hilarious. I've come round to the Black Widow Brigade, and Erik is probably the worst player from the first sixteen seasons.

Oh well, at least he genuinely appreciated the experience which is nice to see

Post-merge this is probably my favourite season, the amount of blindsides is just great, all thanks to the Black Widow alliance

Why is Amanda doing the whole 'I'm sad and doe-eyed" thing again at F3, it lost her the money in China

So, just finished Micronesia. This season is full of amazing moments, blindsides, gameplay blunders etc. But, the cast is really not that rootable. The fans side was full of duds and the favourites side contained some douches, who generally became douchier and gained traction in the game. Stand-out moments were Jason's fake idol, Ozzy's blindside and the girls convincing Erik to give up his immunity :joker: That one was just incredible. I also feel like this season kinda took Survivor to a new level of cutthroat and backstabbing?

Micronesia - Fans vs Favourites:
Eliza
Natalie
Ami
Tracey
Cirie
Kathy
Jason
Amanda
Jonathan
James
Fairplay
Yau-Man
Alexis
Parvati
Ozzy
Erik
Mary
Chet
Mikey B
Joel

Probably knowing that Parvati was going to win tainted my feeling of the season admittedly; she's a good social player but I just find her a little to far on the wrong side of being mean-spirited.

I once again really liked Eliza after she grew on me throughout Vanuatu, and I was gutted when she, Ami, Kathy and Tracey left in quick succession.
Cirie is great entertainment and a great player but I feel she does have an air of arrogance.
Joel is honestly one of the worst Survivors ever: he enters the unholy trinity with Judd and Rocky.
Yau and Fairplay should have stayed longer!
Ozzy's speech to Amanda might have been cute if he hadn't told Alexis at one point he liked her and wanted to get to know her?...
Natalie was the breakout star of this season! She ended up being really great entertainment

Watching the reunion now. I really would like to see Tracy play again but unfortunately I can't see it happening.

I think Jeff compliments Tracey saying she was the most underrated player this season. I'd love to see her again. I loved this season because of all the backstabbing/gameplaying

Watching Gabon Episode 1 now. I'm glad I don't know the winner, I think I prefer seasons when I don't know ngl

Gutted they now know Sugar has the idol :( But wtf @ Ace saying to Sugar "I may call on you to use the idol at some point" He really does believe he is in control of the game

The Fang tribe is messy

Ace reached a new level of twattery when he said "I'd be surprised if you even knew what I was saying half the time Kelly" :umm2:

But I want them to win so these awesome characters go far

YASSS Ace blindsided :clap1: I was so worried Crystal was going! Is it bad I laugh every time she opens her mouth? Her face when she spilt the rice, and then her indicating to Marcus to give her immunity both had me cackling

Welp I was planning on taking this season slower but it looks like another one I'm gonna finish in four days

Yeah I'm going off Corinne. She's a bitch, and I don't like how she's suddenly turned on Susie, she totally misinterpreted what she said.

She is though? I mean I won't spoil for Tom, but let's just say one of the certain lines she says in the series towards a fellow contestant just made me physically sick and dirty. She's a try hard villain.

^ oh absolutely, but even aside from that point everything about her just oozes phoniness and desperation to be acknowledged as A Bitch. I prefer my villains to naturally push people's buttons and be reviled just for being themselves, not ones who actively try to wind people up and make a name for themselves.

TomC

I agree, Corinne is a tryhard

Find yourself a man who looks like Charlie Herschel, sad he is gone <3 Not because he had a particularly nice personality mind

I agree that comment was really bad but that aside she's veeery funny as a villain and never went too far in her confessional rants. She's comedy gold.

She doesn't even wind too many people up though. Most of her character comes out in the confessionals (or her ranting to people she's aligned with). I also think she's actually just being herself, she just owns it and actually has the charisma to pull it off.

Omfg that episode was incredible, with cookiegate, the fake idol and three of the best voting confessionals of all time with Sugar, Randy and Crystal :joker:

This season has become comedy gold

Bob is a hypocrite as far as I'm concerned. He's happy to humiliate Randy by pranking him with a fake idol but doesn't stand for laughing? That doesn't wash with me.

Omg not Bob in the final three when Marcus, Charlie, Corinne and Randy are on the jury :worry:

Tbh I'm finding all the emotion w Sugar a bit much, like I know she'd gone through a hard time, but there was actually no need to give her vote to Matty

TomC
14-01-2017, 04:06 PM
Okay I am very, very wtf at that result :umm2: Bob was pretty awful tbh. Idk I just feel like Sugar had so much more sway in the game... Bob winning is the most surprising result ever I'd say. However, on the whole it was a very entertaining season with some fantastic. Probably falls somewhere in the high middle area of my rankings - can't believe some categorise Gabon with China though :omgno:

Gabon:
Crystal
Sugar
Susie
Kenny
Matty
Charlie
Michelle
Kelly
Dan
Jacquie
Paloma
Gillian
Bob
GC
Randy
Marcus
Ace
Corinne

Crystal was just hilarious. An all-time great character, and I wish she'd gotten further.
As I said, I loved Sugar, but she should have reined in the emotion.
Randy was a hilarious comedy villain
Ace and Corrine were awful particularly the latter. Her jury speech was gross.
