View Full Version : My Journey Through 35 Seasons of Survivor [COMPLETED - SEASON RANKING NOW]

I saw that Kelley Wentworth returns for S31, but this makes very little sense to me as she was one of the most forgettable castaways of this season? She's not like famous outside Survivor is she?
cute lil spoiler about the casting: she was voted in by fans over T-Bird :)

yeah she campaigned her ass off to the neckbeards on Reddit and they fell for her narrative about Dale RUINING her game so therefore she should get A Second Chance to show what she's got
sooo thankful missy didn't get pulled from the game. was convinced she'd be leaving :worry:
jon's blindside was poetic
keith's f5 ic advantage was ridiculous :joker:
natalie blindsiding baylor :clap1:

Prepare yourself for a dreadful, horrifying, awful, horrendous, atrocious, abominable, frightful, fearful, hideous, gruesome, monstrous, sickening, heinous and vile jury speech that was adored by the general public :)

Legends only
reed really sucks. like it just doesn't make any sense, Missy wasn't 'horrible', 'entitled', 'mean.'
Macie Lightfoot
22-08-2017, 10:42 PM
Reed was shooting to be Sue Hawk but he ended up being a Corinne Kaplan -- downright embarrassing.
And, like, I love Missy but I don't doubt she was a nightmare to live with because duh, Missy's entire appeal is being the biggest Fakey McFakerson imaginable. But "an eccentric person making demands of everyone for things to which they feel self-entitled to" really describes Reed just as much as it does Missy.
So I feel like this season didn't fully come into its own despite being strong in parts, whilst there's next to nothing to dislike about the season, and the cast is full of people who would... idk go in your top 50 players, it turned out very...middle of the road. I definitely prefer Blood vs Water and Cagayan, but this was still a solid season.
San Juan Del Sur:
Natalie
Jaclyn
Missy
Val
Jon
Baylor
Jeremy
Kelley
Nadiya
Julie
Drew
Dale
Wes
Alec
Josh
Keith
Reed
John
One thing I must commend this season for is its editing. Making my cast ranking, I usually have like 2 or 3 castaways I have barely any opinion on due to lack of airtime, but this season, everyone got their fair share.
Natalie was a really good winner - as soon as she took on John Rocker we all knew she was gonna be a queen.
Reed just sucks so much? His jury speech cements how annoying and entitled he was in the game. He really did take himself too seriously.

BIB: A perfect analogy. Actually scratch that, Reed's was way more embarrassing than Corinne's.

She's young and blonde and looks good in a bikini and that was somehow enough to retroactively make her a robbed strategic g.oddess
And it's a good thing it was enough because she kinda became a legend.

Except Sue's was one of the most embarrassing ever. And the fact one of those speeches were basically started by her isn't a good thing either.
Sue's speech isn't embarrassing at all imo. She spoke from the heart, and it was the culmination of the main story arc of Borneo.
what's Workds Apart like?

Worlds Apart is pretty grimy and uncomfortable and negative in a BBUK15 way rather than a BBUK6 way, but in its defense (?!? is this what Survivor has come to where I'm defending Worlds Apart) the drama and storylines were at least driven by characters rather than aimless strategy for strategy's sake.
JerseyWins

I'd actually agree Worlds Apart is pretty grimy but it has decent drama. All in all I think it's sort of ok as a season and I'd call it "interesting" in good and bad ways (I think that's what I called it after I first watched and I still view it the same way. It can be easier to get through if you like some/any of the "bad people" (I put it in quotes just because this is the narrative people try to paint for a side they don't like all the time but it can be a fair argument in this case). If you hate most of the people, it might be more of a tough watch but yeah some drama is definitely there.

yeah this is why I think you should try to enjoy WA the best that you can, as unpleasant as it is, because (imo) you're in for a far worse experience with Cambodia as it's 99% strategy/gameplay/BIG MOVES/PLAY DA GAME oriented as I told you in your VMs.

Except Sue's was one of the most embarrassing ever. And the fact one of those speeches were basically started by her isn't a good thing either.
I mean, yes it's embarrassing in the sense that Sue was embarrassed at herself for finally letting another woman into her heart (in a platonic sense) and it was all for naught, and yes it would be even more embarrassing if someone pulled tried to pull that **** today in 2017 or 2018, but it was raw emotion and arguably the most iconic moment of all reality television and a huuuugely important piece of Survivor lore. Surely I don't need to explain this any further.

Jeff trying to frame the Nina boot as "she's on the No Collar tribe but she's REALLY a White Collar" rather than "she didn't fit in with her tribe for a number of reasons, including being deaf" is so insulting to the viewing audience.
I'm into the fourth episode now, and I'm getting RI vibes now. An interesting, intriguing start that goes downhill as unpleasant characters come to the fore and become dominant in the game (like on the Blue and No Collar tribes (assuming Rodney comes out on top after TC4)), as the likeable people end up on the wrong side of the numbers, and get voted out leaving a horrendous merge cast. But idk, everything can change in a few episodes.

Mama C & Rodney :worship:
Damn, I really wanted to suck Joacquin's nipples and phallus.
I mean, Joacquin was okay, there were much greater evils that needed to go! Like Rodney, Dan and Jenn.
I definitely can't see myself stopping after WA. Maybe this will be the cycle that I catch up on Survivor? I definitely think I'll watch Cambodia after this.
What's the feeling toward Joe? I can't tell if I like him. He was decent to Nina, he's just a tad meh.
i liked Kelly Remington :( she seemed like one of the nicer, more genuine blue collars.
my faves seem to be shirin, carolyn, sierra, and maybe joe? none are standouts. hali and mike are alright too, and jenn has actually gotten better. just can't stand rodney and dan. will kinda sucks too.
rodney's just terrible 'it's good if u don't wanna pick me, we're 7 strong, i'm just keepin it real' :umm2:
Dan is terrible. So mean to Shirin. 'Someone slap this woman'.
Wait so if it's 4vs7, is mike with the blue collars if shirin's with the no collars?? clearly my memory is like a goldfish
Hali's Merica analogy
DAMN I really wanted Dan's blindside to come together, I was just warming up to Hali. Her refusing to get up from her seat in disbelief  Doesn't she return for Game Changers? A howl.
This season really isn't that bad though. In a shocking turn of events, I love Joe Anglim, and he and Shirin are my favourites.
I'm gonna get through 10 episodes of this season in 2 days :skull:

Macie Lightfoot
24-08-2017, 11:40 PM
yeah, like Worlds Apart was bad at the time, and I certainly wouldn't go and call it good, but it definitely improves in hindsight a little little bit because there are raw human emotions that dictate the plot and the game is simply a vehicle to advance the story along. Like that shouldn't be something to praise since that's what Survivor is about in its purest form, but Cambodia and MvGX and even the second half of Game Changers are really just personified Wikipedia articles so at some point you just gotta take what you can get.

Joe <\3 Never woulda thought I'd be disappointed to see Hali and Joe go in the first couple of episodes. Will sounds vile next episode
I wish Mike HAD backstabbed Dan at the auction
Mike exposing the foursome :clap1: Rodney's so aggressive...
Will SUCKED towards Shirin, saying she had nothing and no family. Honestly an all-time disgusting moment. If the Blue Collars don't go with Jenn and Shirin I will be FUMING
Jenn's final confessional was iconic. Because it's utterly true. That alliance does suck.
I like watching something a bit darker one in a while, but it's so disgusting seeing Rodney and Will triumph in the game while idiots Sierra and Dan (who also sucks) support this.
I hope they get ****ed up when they face the jury, cos at least one of Rodney, Will and Dan will be.

Kelley Wentworth is sooo random lol.
I finished Worlds Apart last night, and it really isn't that bad? Like at all. I like a darker season from time to time and although the boot order was a bit unsavoury, justice was served with Dan's vote off, Rodney losing the challenge and Shirin declaring Will a 'dead fish'. This season was honestly pretty gripping, and although it contains a few disgusting people, the cast was strong. A middle tier season.

Mikes immunity run was amazing. Honestly every IC was edge-of-your-seat viewing, and it was nice to actually witness a player who goes on an immunity streak whilst being the voting target, a situation it took 30 seasons to see pan out.
I also feel I'm way more forgiving to this seasons boot order as I know Shirin gets a second chance.
Honestly though, honestly the worst, most horrible players go in my red section, and it's so odd to find 3 in one season, so that's a bit of a dampener.
Although carolyn seemed a bit nasty at times, she was an amazing character and player, and one of those characters who feel so unique and unfamiliar.
Rather enjoyed the first episode of Cambodia. It felt like a respectful look back on the first 30 seasons with the classic-Survicor-esque opening, and bringing back the first ever task.

After a break due to wifi problems I'm back on track with cambodia. I'm really shocked Varner was voted off so early tbh. Mainly cos I know he returns for S34 and whilst he's been a big entertaining character IMO, 4 episodes isn't enough time to earn a legacy, let aloneGame changer status!

There's something...odd about this season though. It feels profoundly forgettable.
Savages blindside was incredible.
I just do not understand why they didn't think to split the votes? But I'm glad they didn't cos I love Wentworth this time round.

Jeremy/Tasha/Spencer is a terrible F3 for rootability
This season looked kinda promising at the start, but it was veering towards mediocrity half way through and it really fizzled out in the last few episodes. Not bottom tier by any means, it was just really forgettable, in terms of the game that was played and the players who played.
Cambodia:
Wentworth

Joe
Varner
Kass
Kimmi

I honestly feel, besides Tasha turning into a bit of a goat and spencer being throughly unlikable, that Jeremy's win was a lot to do with his sob story. Spencer's game was more impressive to my mind.
I really wish people like Shirin, Peih-Gee, Varner, Monica and Terry had had longer to shine, kinda wasted potential.

alol my favorite moment of the Cambodia funale was the awful Australians at Behind Big Brother (a BBAU forum I have an account on just to fight with people bc duh, that's my MO) melting down COMPLETELY when Jeremy beat Spencer bc they deemed it unfair that he pulled the sympathy card at the last minute and they somehow believe that he managed to turn every single jury vote at once with it. Overall I'd say S35 > S34 = S33
S33 mainly sucked and the cast was super bland but had a few stars (well like 2) and the post-merge was watchable
S34 is fantastic for the first 6 episodes but then
Sandra is voted out and it's dire after that. Plus the editing is all over the place
S35 has a fairly good cast and has been edited well imo, but the post-merge has been a struggle so far

Season 33 >>>>>>>>>>
Season 34 actually had a better post-merge. :joker: (but it wasn't that good either)
The only thing good about the Survivor 34 pre-merge was
Sandra, basically... the boot order was an absolute abomination (Sandra being a big inclusion of that of course)... it had a few decent tribal councils that's it.
A really good cast selection to begin with helped for sure but not so much when most of the best went out one after another. :suspect:
This season is decent so far.
I definitely prefer larger tribes to the three tribes of six format they keep doing.
There's some nice storylines forming, but I'm as yet unconvinced about how interesting/likeable the cast are. Wasn't happy about the first two boots, but liked the Ep3 blindside.

The reddit WSSYW threads (I know you told me to stay away) say that #itgetsbetter in MvGX with the postmerge?
I thought MvGX was meant to be a game-heavy season? I feel we have actually seen a lot of personal stuff and character development in the first five episodes? With Michaela, David, Adam's mum's cancer story, Zeke, and others. Although tbf, we've barely seen anything of Sunday/Bret/Will/Cece
To be honest, the best advice where Reddit is concerned is to think the exact opposite of whatever they think
(you may end up agreeing with them on this one, but the exception proves the rule etc etc)

Part of what I love about this season. :clap1: It actually has everything you could ask for and kinda sways from sentimental personal storylines to a heavy game-driven season over time. (but kinda goes back and forth throughout in that regard)

I found the attempts at character development to be pretty forced and contrived  not to mention that we don't even get to know like a full half of the cast. It's pretty much a ****ty BBUS season that takes place on an island and once you make that connection it explains... a lot.

Fixed!
Ong Michaela's blindside was so dramatic! Her and Jay staring each other down was tense. I actually quite like Jay? Michaela was great though, so she's a big loss. 'I'll get rich some other way'
There's no one I really love though?
Christ at 9 males, 4 females and all white
Mess not another woman down.
It's okay, Michelle kinda sucks.
Wills pretty annoying actually with his deep voice and Cochran like speech.
Aaaaand I'm going off jay now he's reunited with awful Taylor!
Hmm I'm becoming unconvinced by this season now. The cast just isn't really grabbing me.
JerseyWins
29-12-2017, 01:37 AM
Yeah I kinda didn't realize or at least forgot how much of a woman-lynching season it is. :joker:
Jay is AMAZING though. And a decent amount of the males are good characters. :clap1: This is when the gameplay starts turning up.
Oh and the best female is still there... Hannah
Jay and Ken are probably the best two in the cast, Taylor's fine, all of the other men suck
(Hannah also sucks -insert gif of Ariana Grande saying "it's equality" here-)

I knew that MvGX boot order was quite woman-heavy at the start. In fact, I was surprised a man went so early when Paul was voted off. But this woman culling is literally like nothing I've ever seen in a RTV show.
I feel like Hannah's someone I could grow to like but... it's not happened yet.

Hmm I do really like Jay, but Ken's a bit dull, no? Looks good in his boxers at the challenges though x
The male cast isn't bad on paper, but it's just not delivering sadly.
But Jessica Bland
Jessica's definitely one of my faves. I can totally see her going in the next few eps.
I know Adam wins and I'm totally envisaging a Adam/Zeke/David/Chris/Hannah F5 rn :yuk:
Sunday shows promise but she's too UTR to even be an UTR queen atm.

She was probs my overall fave from the final 10. Really felt for her.
That TC was so intense with the squabbling over whether to draw rocs!
F9 Rankings: Jay > Ken > Hannah > Sunday > Bret > Adam > Zeke > Will > David
The bottom 4 really do suck :umm2:
Also how do they have 9 remaining with three episodes left?

5 is perfect :clap1: even if it's down to a final 2 - since anyway there's less to show for a F3 TC situation. It should always be 5 for the finale IMO. I didn't mind 6 for MvGx though.
It should always be a four-person finale with a final two and that is that on that
Completely agree, MB.
My goodness, bar the fake idol, this finale is such a snoozefest.
This season just feels sooo dull somehow.
And yet certain sections of the fanbase by which I mean Reddit (and, by the looks of things, Jeff Probst and the rest of the production team) think that this season is the perfect model for Survivor to aspire to moving forwards

Ugh. I understand the term 'game-bot' now. This endgame is so emotionally vapid compared to your average season.
There's personal content in MvGX, don't get me wrong, but it's so bland and shallow and barely meshes with any of the heavy strategy and resumes and #bigmoves that we're otherwise presented with that it all feels a bit... redundant?
Millennials vs Gen X
Ohmygod this season ended up sucking quite badly. I did rather enjoy the pre-merge and there were a couple of good episodes in the post-merge. There were some good character moments, and the strategy was easy to track in the pre-merge. But the character development just didn't fully form, and it felt like we were left with a lot of dregs in the last three episodes. That finale was truly awful.

Me ranking more than half of the cast in the orange (you're a bit annoying///you're non-existent//I really don't like you very much) bracket says it all really.
This season has no standout moments, and that's the bottom line. Combine that with gameplay which in my opinion hasn't nearly as 'evolutionary' as they keep telling us, and an extremely beige cast (where are the love/hate characters?) and you have a FLOP!
I may need a cuple of days but I think MvGX is a bottom 10 lock when I do my rankings.

Tony </3 A favourite wnner of mine.
Sandra's jibes at him were iconic thoiugh!
SAY HI TO CIERA FOR ME :hee:
Who tf thought it was a good idea to have a tribe switch at 18 in Episode 2? Didn;t they learn from SC? Where;s the coherent narrative man?
Sandra desperately wants to eat a goat
was sierra allowed to bring makeup?
Wow Debbie really went crazy this episode
JT's blindside :clap1:
Yeah, I've never been a massive JT fan, and Michaela slaying him is satisfying IMO.
But yeah, this season is kind of just a rehash of SC? Pretty unmemorable so far, and the gameplay is far too complex to track with all the switches.
Michaela, Sandra, Varner (I gather this will change) and Andrea (the edit pays her dust) are my faves at this point in time. Someone on reddit spoke about an awful moral moment, and an awful game moment. Have I passed the awful game moment, having reached Episode 4?

Brad opening up about Monica's experience prompted me to re-watch her FTC performance, and what a ****ing neat lady she is
Monica is, like, a top five Game Changers player
That was just....ridiculous, obscene, unnecessary.
I kind of knew the ins and outs of this incident, but I just don't know what Varner was thinking. I loved Varner until this moment, but he just made such a terrible, terrible mistake, and his backtracking in response to the tribe's reaction was really quite pathetic.
I really did love the tribe's reactions to it though. They were so supportive and kind. I'm just so disappointed in and disappointed for Jeff to have tarnished in such a profound, yet avoidable way.

Well first I need to say that Debbie SUCKS in Game Changers and Zeke is also obviously awful so thank **** for that.
HHH is fine! This forum HATES it because... reasons unknown? Like it's definitely not a perfect season by any means, and the finale was one of the franchise's bigger jumping the shark moments, but the cast was full of deranged, petty assholes who fail at strategy and let their emotions (poorly) dictate their game decisions, and that's when Survivor is at its best so?

BIB sounds GLORIOUS! I'm excited now. Unfortunately due to reading reddit (I know, I know), I know 2 people in the final three, and also I discovered the awesome channel below which has shown me a lot of clips from HHH. But the cast does look appealing if that means anything.
CyFy_U6EnwA
See this video is really neat, check out this channel guys. RI has to be my least favourite pagonging. (I may have found the OW one worse, but I didn't get that far).
I can't wait to do my ranking of the 35 seasons, but I'm not even sure if I'm gonna have time to finish HHH before I go away for a week
I think Mad Monka returning may be GC's highlight?
ugh this season is becoming torturous now. tbh i was never gonna enjoy it, as i knew the f4 and winner going into the season, and i really don't care for any of them. it wouldn't even be so bad if it was a newbie or not cos i'd have the whole season to decide whether i like the season, but i KNOW idgaf about brad and troyzan especially
I wish HvHvH had done its (very good) cast justice, because with a few minor tweaks I think it could have been up there with SJDS and Kaoh Rong in the pantheon of Good Modern Survivor Seasons
But hopefully you'll enjoy it, at least after Game Changers and especially after MvGX
but seriously, the crappy theme led to a pretty lackluster cast. nothing of note has happened? i feel the characters haven't been developed at all, and nothing really sets this season apart, in a way even more severe than S31 and 33.
i thought for the middle few episodes that i'd end up preferring gc to cambodia, but i think now i can quite cmfortably say gc is worse

wtf the way cirie went out was SUCH bull****. this is what i was saying about too many idols/advantages! i didn't even like cirie that much in micro and HvV, but sure as hell she was the best one here

I am so...confused. I thought there was meant to be some uber-controversial F4 twist in GC?
Anyway, this F3 is the worst since...okay, actually S31 and 33's F3s were nearly as bad, but before that it's probably 26. This just shows how awful 33 and 34 are as seasons!
Just like Savage, and I'm sorry to say this, but at the age of 35, Ozzy's still got it.
Not keen on this new jury format btw. Do they do it in HHH?
ahhh ozzy's sorted hius hair at the reunion
Game Changers - Mamanuca Islands:
Okay so... the big moments of this season, such as Malcolm's blindside, and the F6 just didn't do anything for me. The cast wasn't interesting. Too much game-talk. Horrible endgame. This series just really didn't work. It's a mere shadow of HvV, an archetype of a good all-star season.
