Yeah I thought that, because Sarah's psychiatrist has to want to kill her again ala Asylum.

I enjoyed this episode, apart from the melodramatic talk of the election, I think it was a pretty solid start to the season. The jokes in the episode were a bit too much for AHS, although I did find some things funny,
it was like Scream Queens humour, and Billie Lourd was acting like Chanel No 3. I also feel like it's a bit predictable of how things are gonna go, like the whole town is probably in on it, Winter purposely only let the son see the clowns (letting him look through the window) as she probably planned with Kai to make it sound like he was seeing things. I kind of do have a feeling that it could go down the road of Kai really just being a lunatic who lives in his mother's basement and that this turns out to be the imagination of Ally and her son (maybe Ally is his birth mother so he inherited her mental health problems)
which I really hope it doesn't go that way. Anyway I'm more excited for this series than I was for Roanoke at this stage.

I also enjoyed the Twisty rehash scene of him killing the lovers in the park, his van re-appearance, and the fact that it's told through the comic books and not that he magically came back to life. I'm a little disappointed that the other clowns aren't real clowns at all, but just people in Halloween masks. But I really do prefer this type of referencing to past seasons (Sarah and her psychiatrist being Asylum, Twisty from Freakshow, The Butchery referencing Roanoke) rather than flat out past characters returning for silly reasons.

I do like Billie Lourd, however I feel like AHS is diluting itself in terms of it's Anthology type casting. If Taissa could have played Winter,
if Lily Rabe could have played Ivy etc... then I feel like it would be better but I think Ryan's past the point of consistency on that front.

Not a terrible episode but I just didn't buy Paulson's character's complete meltdown over the election. It feels like trying to make a point but bashing you around the head with it.

Kai being "in his momma's basement" was about as subtle as a brick too.

Twisty would've been a decent twist to see if we hadn't been told like six months ago.

It was mediocre in the sense that after 7 years it's AHS by the numbers. All very predictable and as you'd expect.

But that's my problem with Ryan Murphy.

He has the luxury to really mix things up every single season and he really doesn't. He sticks to the same tropes and perpetuates the same mistakes every year.

Yeah definitely, the shrink is the only one she told about the holes, the detective covering up the murder, if the clowns did draw a face then it's obv not a murder/suicide, idk about the wife though, unless she was punishing her for not voting for hilary

Just watched it and it was ****ing WOEFUL. If the rest of the series is anything like the first episode than Freakshow will no longer be the worst season.

The writing is terrible and the message and the meanings it's trying to portray are both basic and badly done. Everything is spelled out using overly unsubtle character archetypes. Sarah Paulson is the overly fearful representation of the stereotypical left while Evan Peters is the radicalised right and it beats you over the head with this for the entire hour just to make sure you understand that even though it's blatantly obvious. It's dumb and the writing assumes that it's audience is dumb and needs it spelled out for them. It's just pretentious and nowhere near as clever, groundbreaking or interesting as the writers think it is.

It's utterly boring. You can tell that Ryan Murphy's beyond caring for this show anymore when it's ACS that's getting the awards so much so that this episode just felt like ACS with some 'scary' clowns thrown in for good measure.

Complete trash, unless there's an upturn and quick this might be the first season that I don't bother finishing.

AHS is thrown together with not much effort in comparison.

Look at the difference from Murder House to Asylum in casting, sets, story etc.

Nowadays, it's just like "Oh bring Twisty back! Give Sarah a jumper and tell her to scream! OH Evan does a good villain get him back! Right guys, I'm off to actually put some effort in on Crime Story".

It's a shame. The show could thrive with some injection of actual creativity.

I thought the opening episode to Cult was okay. It feels like it has potential, but it could easily go down the toilet if Ryan Murphy decides to take it to planet nine for absolutely no reason.

Idk I thought it was going to be more underground cult type thing.

It just gets worse and worse, it's like it's written simultaneously by a teenager that's just learned what subtext is but doesn't understand it and an old person desperately trying to stay young and relevant. It is woeful. That shade line alone almost made me switch off.

The new neighbours are painfully transparent attempts to create 'gif-worthy' characters, Kai and Ally continue to be the worst characters that each actor has played thus far (Honestly, Kyle was more interesting than Kai) and there is no story, there's just a flimsy bandwagon-y concept that can't hold one episode, never mind ten.

I'm giving it two more episodes at most.

Exactly. They've always been a tad pretentious in not white achieving what it is they're setting out to do.

Yeah, I think that's why Roanoke was so good, it left out most of the clumsy allegory in favour of a good story and good characters. Aside from the framing device of the various TV shows, it was a very back to basics ghost story and it just worked.

I tuned out of Freakshow and Hotel after the first few episodes. I feel like Cult has a far clearer premise and is pretty compelling in certain areas. Like I said, though, it could go to complete **** if it gets taken to planet 9 and Ryan Murphy goes beyond the scope of the story...which will probably happen because it's Ryan Murphy, and I'll no longer defending Cult as an above average season :p

A major problem going forward however is that there are NO likable or even interesting characters whatsoever. Colton's likely just been cast for the sake of the thirsty gays and the inevitable sex scene between him and the other annoying gay character whose name I don't care to remember. Sarah's character is aggravating, Alison Pill's is nonexistent and neither the writing or the acting talent is there to make Evan's character work. The idea of him being some charismatic cult leader with so much sway over his seemingly many followers is just laughable.
