Woke up at 3am (in Aus) to watch this and now I'm drunk at 9am. UK did well and we got done so dirty by the jury :fist: Italy was my choice to win.

2nd year in a row Bulgaria were the best and lost out now that must hurt does for me
It would be career suicide
Speaking of career suicide, head over to Innocent's Twitter account to see the fallout of a global drinks company tweeting "you're dead to us, Ireland"

Look guys the only crime tonight is that some country, somewhere, gave 5pts to Spain. We need to get to the bottom of this.
*it turns out to be Portugal and I have to cope with another wave of hate </3*

I didn't like it anyway but yes his speech was BS. I want fireworks and crazy people dancing. Literally no idea why he applied, he clearly looked down his nose at the whole contest.

We wouldn't though. Yes we might be able to get into the 200's based on Jury Votes if we are lucky but countries will still vote for their friends and politics will roll in.
i just came up with names that are good sellers and has loads of fans worldwide which could help us not to flop or do well in voting :skull: but ofc it's unrealistic of course because eurovision artist don't seem to be worldwide stars and i don't think they will be.
It would be career suicide
oh yeah i know :shame: one of Estonia's most famous artist entered but came 2nd on their selection show (i was looking at peoples rankings on youtube who said she was one of their biggest sellers)

This was the most robbed song of the whole contest, not even making the final. How you gonna deliver power vocals and a 20-second note (of varying ranges) and still get eliminated?

It's quite sad that Israel won't be competing anymore, especially since they've participated for so long and contributed so much history to the contest <\3 I always expect to see that specific spokesperson as well, he must have done it for years.
...they should've milked it beforehand though, they might have got more votes :p
Are Israel definitely no longer competing or will another channel get EBU associate membership?
(or was that the only broadcaster in Israel... I'm not really sure)
Denver
13-05-2017, 11:45 PM
The channel that wants Eurovision was rejected it because they dont have a news programme
Denver
13-05-2017, 11:55 PM
If Israel's new broadcaster doesn't fulfil the requirements for ESC in time, this means we could see many North African and Eastern countries come to the contest.
At the moment, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia are all eligible to participate in the contest but can't because of laws relating to Israeli content being broadcast.

11th - Switzerland, Portugal, Croatia
12th - Sweden
13th - Montenegro (one of theirs put us first <3 another put us 22nd </3)
Televote Points
12th - San Marino, Greece
13th - Netherlands, Latvia, Finland, Denmark
Stunned at Malta's jury hating us.
Israel put us 25th out of 25 :joker: Enjoy your zero Eurovision coverage :xyxwave:
And the biggest contrast between public & jury I think is Germany. Juries put us 5th. Their public put us 22nd. Can't think why

Israeli eurovision was his own personal fiefdom he controlled it, so I wasn't that happy with that anyway.
And the reason they are closing down is because of the Israeli goverment and their desire to control the news. So if their leaving means less politics I'm happy enough.

So basically the Israeli spokesman has misled Europe.
In addition to what starry said, there's a lot of corruption in the IBA and the latest political moves of Netanyahu and his disgraceful party.
Basically shutting down the IBA is a great decision - it's an archaic, irrelevant, notorious, hardly-viewed broadcaster, known for its waste of public money and non-proportional salaries. Netanyahu himself made the (right) decision to shut it down.
It should have been replaced by a new broadcaster made from scratch called Kann (כאן), which is already a promising relevant and fresh alternative. It was due to happen on January this year.
But then Netanyhau felt that Kann are starting to show left-wing signs: the news desk has been working on a story about something really fishy related to him; the designated news anchor is the wife of his political rival (from the same party). So he dragged the parliament to a vote in which they have delayed the change of broadcasters to April 1st (with the Minister of Culture notoriously saying "what's the use in a public broadcast if we can't control it?").
By April Netanyahu suddenly decided to make a U-turn after a meetup with the IBA's workers has allegedly convinced him that it's wrong to fire them and leave dozens of families jobless. So he made a deal with the minister of treasury to separate Kann from its news department and merge it with the IBA's personnel. That way, the current head of news department will be fired (and presumably the news anchor as well and all the "lefties" of Kann).
So IBA has been shut down last week with less than a 30 minutes notice (but that's a whole new disgusting story), with the exception of Eurovision (which they were committed to broadcast). Kann is starting to broadcast tomorrow afternoon.
The IBA does stop broadcasting the Eurovision, but Kann is set to replace it. The only issue right now is that the news department will be separated from the broadcaster, which is against the EBU rules, but they'll figure it out (+ we're waiting to hear from the supreme court, which might rule out Netanyahu's move). From what I understand, Israel won't be able to broadcast the world cup either because of the same issue. So... as we say in Israel, it's a big balagan. This country is going politically bankrupt one step at a time.
It's all very disgusting and shameful, to say the least.
