Discuss the ratings for the upcoming season here.

Here's how the last 4 series have done. Overnight ratings with the official rating in brackets

CBB17 average - 2.26 (2.83)
CBB17 launch - 2.80m (3.30)
CBB17 final - 2.70m (3.01)

CBB18 average - 1.57 (2.10)
CBB18 launch - 2.36m (2.71)
CBB18 final - 1.80m (2.14)

CBB19 average - 1.78 (2.37)
CBB19 launch - 2.32m (2.77)
CBB19 final - 2.19m (2.56)

CBB20 average - 1.31 (1.78)
CBB20 launch - 1.80m (2.11)
CBB20 final - 1.80m (1.80)

Using this info, I predict a launch of 2.4m (2.9) and a series average of 1.95m (2.45m) - I say this because I think the new eye and very controversial theme will get a little more than last years series did, plus coming off CBB20 which went down well
(I feel CBB19 was down because the gp just don't like all stars, and because it followed Bear) although I don't think it'll reach CBB17 levels due to how low BB has generally been in 2017.

I predict a 2.05 mil. for launch, highest I can imagine is a 2.4 mil.
Average ratings could be 1.5 mil., with 1.8 mil. being the highest...
We can't really predict the finale...depends on the series...but based on the downward trend of Winter CBBs...a 1.9 to 2.1 for the finale...

2.3 launch, officially 2.6

Series average 2.2

I still think it willfall short of 2m.

1.88m IMO for launch, 80k up on the CBB20 launch. And settle at 1.6m overnights, 2m official.

There was a massive climb from CBB16 final to CBB17 launch, so would be fantastic if it could do that again, but doubt it. The climb was 1.06m between CBB16 final and CBB17 launch.

CBB 20 was the lowest rated series in cbb history so I don't understand how you think this year will be up because it "went down well"?

The "new" twist only includes 8 housemates on launch it seems and the rumoured line up is probably the worst ever. Cbb have got some huge celebs to sign up in previous years so hats off to channel 5 but this years rumoured line up is really poor.....every person seems like a z lister.

If they are going to pull a twist/risk like this they need big names on the first night before the men enter otherwise people won't be interested.

I completely understand that some people are a bit "meh" about the rating, yes, it;s lowest CBB winter launch, but l think people are forgetting how big a hill BB has had to climb since last summer. They were in a diabolical state in the summer. The civ series was under 700k few times. It ended with 900k. 2 days later, ratings doubled for CBB launch to 1.8m. The series averaged around 1.4m nightly. It ended with 1.6m. Now last night started half a million up on that final.

I get it's low for winter CBB but it's climbed a massive amount from 700k to 2.1m. Anyone expecting it to be in the higher 2s are deluded. It's like expecting X Factor to launch with 10m after it's sub 5m ratings this series orEE to miraculously reach 10m again.

With CBB it's a 'compare to last year' sort of thing. Not a 'but it got 5m s few years ago!' thing.

Speaking of launch to 1st show, last winter's series went from 2.32m to 1.92m in the one night. I wonder how much tonight will retain, i think it will drop a lot, to around 1.4m, but get around 1.7m for the men's entrance on Friday.

No not that I recall I remember watching and thinking where are all the men?! Turns out bb8 then went on to be its lowest rated series at that point in time but that may have been down to the race row of Cbb5 which was only on in the January of the same year.

Yes i think we were told before launch. I recall it went from 6.2m to 3.9m oin overnights, in officials here are the first 2 weeks of BB8...

6.6m
4.3m
5.0m (Ziggy enters)
3.8m
4.0m
4.4m
4.0m
5.1m (Emily's ejection)

2.9m
2.8m
4.2m
2.3m
2.8m
3.3m/3.3m (Liam, Jonathan, Brian and Billi enter)

So really, the more men they added, the lower ratings got.

The reason why BB8's ratings crashed so badly is because the second week was up against Britain's Got Talent nearly every night. The show never recovered from that awful scheduling.

The all-female twist technically didn't flop since the first week averaged 4.7m.

supertv247
03-01-2018, 07:23 PM
If tonight stays above 1.6 then that’s good, same trend as last year... if it falls lower, that’s slightly concerning. Anything over 1.6 would be great at this point.

Tomorrow will probably get slightly more than tonight, as people will think tonight will just be a recap of what we saw last night. So I’ll say 1.6-7 for that. Then hopefully the twist on Friday will be seen as a second launch, with a whole bunch of newbies hopefully it can reach 2 million again - but that will be difficult in itself given that fridays don’t do well these days. If W&G is a huge success and gets over 2m then it may help the second show stay up

It will be nice to see how it affects CBB21, if it does.
Not sure if losing 35% of the rating the day after launch night is a natural thing, or due to the twist (If people started watching without knowing it's female-only and switched off).

1.4m is a loss of 670k overnight, and a loss of 520k year on year. It's almost the highest drop from launch to first episode since CBB13 at least, excluding CBB18 which dropped 780k.

Not good. It's not going in a good direction. This is tragic :skull:

It'll rise on Friday but it won't stabilise unless they have a character prominent in the media throughout (Lee Ryan, Perez Hilton & Katie Hopkins, Tiffany Pollard, Gemma Collins & Stephanie Davis, Kim Woodburn). I don't think any of the current housemates will be that character but Dapper Laughs and Shane Lynch sound like they suit that profile.

It's weird because with CBB13, CBB15 and CBB17 there was a genuine buzz around the series. CBB19 only had a build up because of the press speculating who would be back. This series had barely anything despite having IAC/SCD worthy names. Bear really did kill CBB.

Do we think the officials will help much this series? I remember one episode of CBB20 getting 700k on catchup (I think it was in the first week?) but that number went down due to it being boring

Hopefully, especially with the audience this series seems to be targeting, more people are watching on catchup and if it does reach 700k it’ll stay at that level idk just thinking positive x

Yep, i used to care more up until a years ago, Obsessed between BB7-BB13, still very interested in BB14-15, during BB16 i used to be like "well it's gonna be bad anyway", and then by BB18, I was accepting and shrugging off the 700k figures.

Back in the late C4 years i used to sneak off every 9:30am-9:45am from a lesson in school to go to the toilet to check the ratings....

wtf was wrong with me man/. Now, i'm like, "it's a tv show, i'm not getting any money for a ratings rise!"

*mazedsalv**
06-01-2018, 03:19 PM
So, yes, it is pretty awful but i'm going to clutch at some straws now...

Last night being down on Thursday is odd, there was a lot of hype, so i can only put it down to being a Friday and being up against the football. The footie did surprisingly well, those sorts of matches barely get 4s usually.

Fridays have done very badly the last few series, just like Saturdays, could be the younger lot out, i'm not sure, but that could be to blame. Last Jan went from 1.97m to 1.44m from first Thursday to Friday... and like Super said, last years show got 1.5m, so similar to what last night was.

Even looking at Love Island's rating last year, Fridays was by far the lowest rated day for them, before surging back up on Sunday.

And one very big straw clutch... it was the highest rated Friday since CBB19 haha, only thing higher was CBB20 final which got 1.6m.

I may be quite optimistic, but i think we will see a climb tomorrow. I reckon tonight will be 1.10m and tomorrow will get 1.69m.

I think what we can hope for this series is that it can hold on to 1.5m throughout, as that gives them a chance to hit 2m officials hopefully.

The show was recieved very well last night, a lot of praise about the cast and editing, so if it doesn't take off, then, it doesn't take off. It's sods law that the show could be excellent, but the ratings just don't increase. It's liike that with a lot of things nowadays.

Makes me wonder, will C5 be happy with a low rated series but excellent reaction to those watching, or will they want CBB17 type ratings with the show getting huge backlash.

They need to choose, sadly, good series do not go hand in hand with good ratings. I mean, the fact the likes of CBB18 did well in the ratings compared to CBB20 is criminal to me. Does it mean people like Bear like characters? Well if that's the case, i bet C5 are hoping Daniel does something controversial.... you know, get that standard BB first week ejection...

What backlash did CBB17 receive? :suspect:

No I'm saying, getting CBB17 type of ratings (eg. mid 2s). but having people moan about the show and how it's disgusting and a disgrace etc.... more like CBB18 really.

I wasn't talking about CBB17 getting backlash, what I'm saying is, lets say irt climbs half a million, but the reaction is not good compared to what it is now.

Probably, it has always been the case, back in C4, sometimes the first show of an eviction would drop 1m in the interview episode. I don't think we need to worry about that second show drop. Friday late 2nd show ratings add a lot of timeshift. For me, for example, if i'm out on a Friday I'd watch the first hour, but would miss the 2nd part because i go out normally between 9:45pm and 10:30pm.

I knew it would be down due to increased competition. I think 1.6m for tonight and first show tomorrow.

tonight... 1.59m.
tomorrow... 1.60m. second show... 1.32m

1.6m will be the benchmark for the series imo. which i think will be 2.0-2.1m officially. Sure it'd be down on last year's 2.4m but OK due to the horrible year it's had.

as long as it beats last summer's 1.8m official and CBB16s 1.9m official.. it's OK.

Hope it also beats CBB14s and CBB18s 2.1m official but I don't think it will.

I really enjoyed it - first day of the shopping task and it’s a good one. Quite an old school type task I thought.

Correct, but slightly more so. The equivalent episode last year got 1.9 so still 200k short - and going into next week it needs to top 2 million a few times to keep up with last January..

Great for 1st show. Agaain, highest since launch and a very good share.

Shame about 2nd show, Will and Grace ain't helping.. The split show in general isn't helping, but i assume catch-up figures for the 2nd show will be good.

Unless something big happens, i don't think so.

I am pretty sure they will now throw some of the C5 strategies to start rows eg. old DR clips etc...

I think it can still peak higher than last night, considering it was a Friday and they generally don't do as well as weekday shows can.

The 2 summer Saturday split shows got 381k & 258k on 5STAR and 593k & 577k on Channel 5, respectively. That was 974k and 835k altogether for those 2 Saturdays which is dire, so hopefully tonight does MUCH better...

I'm thinking 400k & 800k, roughly.. but it did get 1.4 last week so hopefully can reach that again

You didn't expect it to get that with a 5* look and a 10 30pm showing, did you? That was impossible.

5* is a channel that barely reaches 300k and 10 30pm on C5 is lucky to even reach half a million, so those ratings are expected.

I expect 1.50m tonight.

Of course not, but when there’s 4 chances to watch the show last night and it still manages to get the lowest jan rating ever, it’s not good.

we shouldn't compare the split shows to ANY January because this is the first and only January which is doing this. you can't compare a 9pm C5 slot to a 9pm 5* and 10 30pm C5 slot.

If it was on at 9pm on C5 it would have been 1.2m+

it doesn't matter that people had 4 chances to watch it. 5* is watched by an average of 1% of the population as opposed to the average 6% for C5. So the reach for 5* is much less.

It's not comparable.

doesn't matter if there was 4 chances or 10 chances.

It's like expecting Corrie to still get 7m combined if you air 1 episode on ITV4 and then show a second look at 10 30 pm
when really it would get 1m on bbc4 and 4m at 10 30pm.

It's all about the 'reach'. Combined there is less peoplt watching 5* at 9pm and C5 at 10 30pm than there is watching on C5 at 9pm.

It is no way comparable. The split shows should only be compared to the split shows (BB18 and CBB20) and not surprisingly it was the highest for a 5*/c5 split show they have done.

The average catch up for week one of CBB20 was 600k and for week one of CBB21 its 490k so it is a little less.. but CBB20 had less episodes in the first week, didn't have a split Friday etc and was actually the most viewed series on catch up at that point.. so it could even out. Week 2 also fell to like 400k average so hopefully this series keeps it up or even starts getting more on catch up.

Before today, only 2 episodes of January CBB had rated below 2 million before, now another 2 have just in that last week :worry:

I mentioned on Twitter that I don’t think this averaging is correct. They should be time weighted rather than episode weighted otherwise you get into averaging averages and data quality drops.

Take a 90 minute episode. BARB would give each minute an equal weighting in the episode so the first 60 minutes would be 60/90 of the average and the last 30 minutes would contribute 30/90 to the average. The same should hold if an episode is split into two parts but in the above each episode is given an equal weighting.

If you effectively make each 30 minute episode worth half (so half the viewers but also the episodes drops by 0.5) you create an approach consistent with BARB and you also boost the average slightly. Makes for fairer comparisons between series which did not split episodes.

Eddie.
