No I think that writer should be based on the script they write and not there gender which can be seen as being diverse.

I think it has to be the 12 or so best writer and the story they wrote who should be involved whether male or female.

Right.... but what about "There's a lot of female writers this series" suggests they haven't picked the best writers/story pitches?

I don't think anyone really expected a full trailer. But the limp dick of a teaser they put out was pretty disappointing. The "Trip of a Lifetime" with Eccleston was good, as was the 3d one with Eleven and Amy.

That's because you got excited about something they never promised you.

They said a teaser would be released and a teaser it was.

It's like when they released the first official image of her as the Doctor and that's what it was... Just a picture. They didn't promise anything else.

3 months before the premiere, small teasing stuff like this is expected and then they put meat on the bones the closer we get to the actual series.

If it was a full blown ad campaign from now people would get sick of it before it even airs.

Greg!

Oh I was wondering who the song was by, it sounds pretty good!
Lots of running and dramatic music wouldn't scream cliche DW trailer to you?
It'd at least suggest DW, which is more than people eating food or reading newspapers does ...

I can see the "concept" behind the teaser - the Doctor is mischievously messing with her future companions, perhaps to let them know the universe is calling. It's just the presentation made it look so bland. The Jodie shot didn't even fit in with the theme, an outright smirk or chuckle would have worked better, rather than the distant smile.

I dunno, I love Dr Who so maybe I expect too much of it. As it was played during a World Cup Final, I just thought this might be a chance to get "Joanna and Michael" to think THAT LOOKS AWESOME, LET'S WATCH DR WHO WHEN IT'S BACK! rather than "oh yeah, Dr Who still exists"

I mean, personally, I loved Jodie's smile. Felt reassuring

Also this trailer made me feel as if the Doctor was other-worldly which is because well... she is lol. Which, IMO, is better to focus on than her running down a corridor in true Doctor Who fashion.

This is our first look at the 13th Doctor. Let's see who she is, rather than what she can do

Marsh.
16-07-2018, 11:24 PM

The trailer introduced us to the new main cast for the first time on screen and the doctor was tinkering with time around them. Pretty obvious tbh.

A teaser trailer like that doesn't need a "concept". Much like the BB eye flashes of old, it's merely a tease that it's coming back. We'll get the full-on promotion campaign closer to the time.

There would be no use in throwing a "OMG WATCH THIS BRAND NEW DOCTOR WHO SH*T!!!!!" trailer on an audience that are going to forget about it over the next three months.

The Daleks will NOT appear this series https://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2018-07-20/doctor-who-series-11-monsters-no-daleks/amp/

Leads me to think that they’ll be in the Christmas Day episode unless the reporter contract clause of them appearing every year has been changed

Rusty the Dalek was in the last one remember. It was pointless and made precisely zero sense but there we are.

It just seems mad that the amount of overuse the Daleks have had since the show came back and they’ve never been the main monster on a Christmas episode

Stolen Earth/Journey's End is probably my favourite Dalek story but then I absolutley adored The Magician's Apprentice/Witch's Familiar episodes too. To be honest, Davros is my absolute favourite villian so I guess that's why. The Daleks on their own...eh...I guess maybe Dalek?
Oh, actually, I quite like Victory. I know most people slate it but I actually really liked it and it was definitley Mark Gattis' best episode.

Out of the classic ones, the best one is probably Rememberance of the Daleks which was the seventh Doctor. Genesis is quite good too.

I do also really like Revelation of the Daleks because it's a ****ing creepy story but again it's more Davros than the Daleks.

... what does? A Tardis team of 4?

The first ever TARDIS team was Ian, Barbara, and Susan? Three companions, same as the amount 13 will be travelling with. It's not like the Doctor travelling with more than one companion is unheard of

Tom4784
02-08-2018, 02:29 PM
A team in the Tardis is quite traditional tbh, and it's not exactly an unheard of concept in the new seasons either (Last season had Bill, Nardole and Missy, the first season had Rose and Jack, plus you had Amy and Rory too).

Also Martha was the worst companion, she had potential but they turned her into Rose 2.0.

Ant.
02-08-2018, 03:11 PM
Like, objectively Martha is a good companion and I don't think she's bad, but I just don't have a lot to say about her, even though she practically saved the world and the Doctor at the end of Series 3. And maybe that's because I found Series 3 to be underwhelming but, yeah, not too big on Martha.
Can't pinpoint why but I liked her in Series 4, although her conclusion was... bad imo. Was Martha living her dream and making it as a Doctor? No, she was fighting aliens with her husband Mickey (and we all know why they got hooked up ). And I'm all for Martha moving on from the Doctor and finding love elsewhere, but that's what she's remembered for... being the Doctor's rebound (who led her on tbf), which got annoying after a while

tl;dr Martha was smart and brave but she was just unmemorable and the fact her conclusion is that she (seemingly) threw away her job as a doctor to fight aliens with her husband (with whom she had never interacted with beforehand what was the bloody point in them hooking up) just sums up her entire story pretty well

Marsh.

I think you mean

"10-13 stories a year"

or

"5 -6 stories a year"

Surely a 45 minute space for a story, titles and credits is a bit rushed?

Whereas a 22- 25 minute space for part of a story, titles, a cliffhanger and credits each Saturday teatime is much better?

isn't a show like DW meant to keep you on your toes each week, making you look forward to the next episode - will the doctor die? Is that a Dalek shadow he saw?

The only thing that keeps New Who fans on their toes is the Next Time trailer which gives most of the story away :p

No, it's not a distinction I care to make right now. I was talking about episodes of Doctor Who without thinking about how they relate to one another.

S11 will have no multi-parters, but we're still getting ten episodes. Since S1 we've have varying amounts of "stories" each year, but still (4-)10-13 episodes.

Classic Who, as you point out, could have a different number of episodes per story, but there was still (approximately) the same amount of episodes.

Some stories are crap regardless of length - Daleks in Manhattan, Sontarons poisoning the sky, the recent Zygon two parter, Face the Raven ...

Glenn.
06-08-2018, 07:18 PM
Splitting one story into multiple parts wouldn’t work with today’s audience. It unnecessarily drags the story out and people would get bored.

I do agree that today's audience would be bored with the split parts.... but the only reason I would like it back is for the cliffhangers!

Stories like Bad Wolf and Parting of the Ways were completely fine split up...

How would you feel about 2 45-minute parts to a story (as used in Colin Baker's season)

Because technically they're not three parters.

The first episode is its own story, it's just the conclusion of it directly affects/leads into the next episode.

Utopia and Turn Left are standalone stories really. The cliffhangers just lead directly into the two-parter. They aren't really one story spanning 2 1/4 hours of screen time over 3 weeks.

Is that confirmed?

Is that confirmed?

I thought it was but apparently it's just extremely likely. Chibnall wants more people to watch at the same time instead of depending on catch-up

I am sorry, but that interior looks awful. Hopefully it looks better on TV.

They're thinking that they actually want people to watch this series, I assume

It looks like a disused set from some Estonian game show from the 90s

We got Medieval China from Marco Polo (but it's all missing!)

i mean marco polo is from the first doctors run :skull:

I get that with the budget they probably can't go to crazy but I do think they need to explore more historical areas. I mean I did enjoy thin ice last series andethought it looked pretty good only to find out it was all filmed in a studio

I’ve got to be honest, I can’t remember a history story that I would say is one of my favourites. I know they kind of have to be done considering it’s a show featuring a time machine but I always find them rather dull.

I think the crimson horror was a good story and think Thin Ice and Cold War were cute little filler eps. The girl who died/Woman who lived was just ****ing terrible but I don't think the historical element has anything to do with it, I think they just got exited about having Maisie Williams for game of thrones and wrote the story around her.

Looking back at all the historical eps of new who and Vampires of Venice, Vincent and the doctor, The fires on Pompeii, The Unicorn and the wasp, Shakespeare code, Human nature, tooth and claw, girl in the fire place, the unquiet dead and the empty child duo are all really strong episodes. Also theres a lot of really good classic who stories.

So there's literally no old writers returning apart from Chibnall.

We know a lot less about this series than any other prior to its airing.

So... no.

Mess @ this moving to Sunday Evenings wtf are they thinking

Sunday evenings are actually prime slots.

It's where all the big dramas have thrived.

Call the Midwife, Downton Abbey, Line of Duty, The Night Manager. Sunday night BEHEMOTHS!!!

Saturday night TV is a wasteland.

It's because, due to limited budget, they always go back to the same time periods in Britain.
