The midfield is the main problem; Xhaka has been completely stale and inspired nothing in terms of attacking football. Maybe Willock would be better, maybe Ceballos, maybe Ozil... but to be honest I just don't think Aubameyang does enough, and don't think Lacazette is good enough aside from his 1 or 2 games a season where he seems to have lucky pants on. I honestly think he's a downgrade from Giroud.

We've just become a cash cow for agents to milk obscene wages out of, and I don't see it changing.

Imo I still can't believe the way that Xhaka got himself sent off as it was completely avoidable.

Hopefully the bottom paragraph isn't true as Arsenal are a massive club that deserves better imo.

This may sound odd but Xhaka’s sending off has probably done some good since it’s a guarantee he won’t be selected for the Southampton game. I do wonder why Arteta chose him for the Burnley game considering he didn’t play particularly well against Tottenham.

He hasn’t done it tonight ( yet ) but whilst Kane is a fabulous player I wish he’d stop that thing where he waits for the defender to jump for the ball then he backs into them !!

It’s so flamin dangerous to knock them off balance when they’re off the ground . One day someone could get really hurt as they fall .

Are we returning back to the mid eighties where Everton and Liverpool are the two top teams challenging for the trophies?

Manchester United and Arsenal are mid table fodder now and will be for some time. Manchester City's five minutes of fame look to be coming to an end, and Chelsea suffer from small club syndrome.

It's Everton's turn now.

Hate Grealish so much

The way that Sky Sports and BT Sports talk about him is incredibly OTT considering all he does is fall to the floor.

Kane, Sterling, and Rashford don't get anywhere near the same Media hype as Grealish does even though they're better players than him which is just bizarre.

Being barged or knocked to the floor isn’t the same as falling.... we are now seeing absolute top ex players raving about him week after week ... he gets the man of the match virtually every game he plays ( including England matches )

Today it was Glen Hoddle applauding his performance.. centrally behind the lone striker.

Mock, who is considered Birmingham's greatest ever player?

I know they had a great post World War 2 player called Joe Bradford and I know that Trevor Francis was one of the best English players of his time and you also had Duggarry who was a World cup winner.

Older Birmingham fans will say Trevor Francis, from my time I'd say Mikael Forssell was great for us, I also had a soft spot for Emile Heskey and Cameron Jerome (which I'd get slaughtered for this one by some Blues fans lol)

Neither of them though are in Kane, Rashford, or Sterling's league, or when I've seen some Villa fans on Twitter compare Grealish to Mbappe.:laugh3:

Oh and currently Blues fans are hyping up Bellingham who's now playing for Dortmund, I want him to do well, but again I'd object to him being compared to Mbappe and Messi too if anybody was barmy enough to do that.

Both Bellingham and Grealish have to earn being compared to the current greats, at the moment they've both won nothing (haven't even come close to winning anything) have been in relegation fights throughout their careers so far, and in Grealish's case he can't seem to beat a player without falling to the floor.

I remember the pundits at one time raving about Shawn Wright-Phillips, David Bentley, and Aaron Lennon and how they were all better than David Beckham, so excuse me if I don't take their word as gospel.

The only people that would call Grealish world class at the moment are Villa fans.

And when Rashford or Pogba have opposition players barge into them do you see them go to ground as much as Grealish does? We have a player similar to Jack Grealish at the moment called Jon Toral, should he get a call up to the Spain squad and be touted as the next David Silva?:joker:

Only David Bentley of the first three you mentioned had real talent if we’re being serious... the other two were just speed merchants with no end product and zero awareness or vision .. the polar opposite to Jack Grealish who’s been effecting games for Villa and England and who never goes missing as Pogba does.

As regards being barged over have you seen the size of Pogba !?! He’s about 6’3” and built like a brick outhouse

The only game this season where I think that Grealish had a really good game was against Liverpool, other than that I'd say that his a decent player at best being made out to be the second coming by Villa fans and the Media.

And it doesn't matter what size Pogba is, every player dives at some point or another, but nobody does it as consistently as Jack Grealish does.

Honestly you can like Grealish and dislike Lewis Hamilton, I honestly don't care as long as I have my opinion on them.

Maybe I could've put my point across on Grealish maybe a bit more calmly, but he is the one Villa player that I really just don't like.:joker:

But yeah I hold no grudge towards you, and hopefully you hold none towards me.

Sheffield United for at least 4 months without Sander Berge, he got a leg injury during the match against Manchester United

ouch, i mean my team Fortuna also one player who had returned recently from long term injury, Djibril Dianessy (6 months)

so gonna take some time the at least 4 months + extra training time since he'll need that before he can play a match again (so no more playing time for him this season i think) which i know because Dianessy also took some time before he could play matches and be at 100% strength again

Proper defending from Jamie Carragher, how it should be done.

Sadly the Prawn sandwich eating, suit and tie wearing, money people who have taken control of football from the people, who now change the rules of the game every year, won't let it happen anymore, and good hard tackles have been substituted for Balarina and diving.

As part of the defenders Union, I call for tackling like this to be legal again.

Manchester City's Premier League match against Everton on Monday has been postponed because of an outbreak of coronavirus at the club.

The latest tests have returned more positive results, in addition to those of Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker and two staff members revealed on 25 December.

The City training ground will be closed for an "indeterminate period".

Fulham's Premier League match at Tottenham on Wednesday is in doubt because of new coronavirus cases at the west London club.

The fixture is due to kick-off at 18:00 GMT at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

On Tuesday the latest round of Premier League coronavirus testing found 18 people had the virus - the highest recorded in the testing programme.

Sheffield United have confirmed they had "numerous positive tests" in the latest round of testing.

Neither ever get sent off or even warned but get the occasional yellow as Matic did tonight .. from memory he fouled repeatedly, took out 3 players with dangerous tackles and only got the yellow for basically assaulting John McGinn .

Do you keep up with their updates on Cm 01 02 updates (https://champman0102.co.uk)? The games now free,

Problem is those games are over two decades old and have been rinsed in terms of functionality, glitches, work around etc. The site I posted has all the best strategies and tactics so the games quite easy.

I always like to take a team from the conference into the Premier division and into Europe while also manging an international team. I was once Ireland manager for 40 years . Once had an amazing game as Stevenage where I won the ECL 7 times in 11 years. It was always the most challenging task because you had to refresh the whole squad at least twice by the time you got to the Premiership and this usually screwed up the finances for such a small club. All were classic games that I'd recommend to anyone.

I downloaded it from there when it became freeware, so I have it. I haven't patched it so I get that fake Portugese player who scores about a million goals a season - Txeira or something like that.

I always lose interest in saves that aren't Liverpool. I used to do an Oxford save as a kid, but I'd just lose interest when I couldn't sign Ronaldinho or Kluivert.

Haven't played for a year or 2, but definitely have a Liverpool save on the hard drive. Classic.

To think Ole was on the hot seat a month or so ago and we were in supposed crisis. Now could well go to Anfield top of the table.

Season going to have many twists and turns.

Now that I see there is a November update I had to download it and the game too. Having the usual issue of setting the damned thing up but I'm curious to see if all the old tricks still work.

I cant play as a big club simply because the game is too easy if you use the 'cheat' tactics that I like to use. Probably the best game I ever had was Wolves and USA when Wolves were still in the 2nd tier but their 40k ground meant that the finances issues you always had with small clubs was never an issue. Playing as a small club it was always funny to see the club haemorrhaging money every year while in every cup final and winning the league by ten points.

The biggest challenge, for me, was to win all 8 club competitions in the same year. This was always very rare cuz you'd slip up in one of the cup competitions and lose on penalties or come up against a super keeper. I'm now starting to remember how frustrating the game could also be at times.

Switch to a cheeky 3412. 3 cb's, 4 in mid but have a diagonal arrow forward and a diagonal arrow backwards (1 square) on your centre mids and 2 wingers with a forward arrow for one square, a support man, and your 2 guys up front. Or an old school 235.
CM 01/02 was the best cm of all time, but having older brothers, I pretty much played all of them!I play a 3-1-3-3 formation, I sometimes switch to a 5-3-2 if I have a couple of good wing backs in my team.

i usually played in 4-3-3 formation

or when against better opponents then i had swapped to 5-3-2 formation, just some extra defence and more rely on any possible counter attacks

as for my transfer strategies had been like, 2 bought players, 4 on loan, and a couple of free agents (more those with international experience, whom can add that experience to the team etc) and i also reinforced my team staff (one assistant manager, first team coach, goalkeeping coach, fitness coach, and few former player-coach as youth coaches

yes i had some glory days playing football manager :flutter:

usually dutch eredivisie, but also sometimes Premier League, and Serie A

It’s looking like just about anyone can win the league this season ... especially if they suspend the league in the coming weeks ( entirely possible) ....

So if/ when this virus goes crazy I can see them stopping the season and handing the league to the team leading at the time or discounting it all together

Come on Villa !!

Soooo 40 Prem League players tested positive for Covid this week .. up from 18 last week ( the previous highest number )

Looking very ominous ... . I have no idea why the music and live entertainment people have chosen today to pressurise the government into naming a date for LIVE shows / concerts to start up again

United v City

Fernandinho has already whacked Fernandes a few times already .. Fernandes just reacted aggressively as the ref ( as usual) doesn’t book or even warn Fernandinho ..

I don’t understand how certain players are routinely allowed to foul repeatedly

You just know he’ll get away with murder all night then score a late winner !!

The Villa thing with liverpool tomorrow was always going to happen at some point and its gonna happen a lot more by the time the season is through, spurs have already got a bye because of a similar situation in the league cup

they should have done away with the cups this season i reckon for numerous reasons, the biggest one being the packed fixture list this season and more travelling and The FA Cup hasn't got the same feel without the fans besides all that

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has said it is "morally wrong" for football to continue amid increasing coronavirus outbreaks at clubs.

The Magpies were the first team to have a Premier League match postponed this season, but more than 60 games in England have been called off.

"Financially it's right to play on, but for me, morally, it's probably wrong," said Bruce.

"I understand people want to see a game of football but we are just as vulnerable as everybody else."

I'm off to play Championship manager 97/98. The greatest football manager game ever.

Almost half way into my fifth season as Real Madrid manager and I haven't won the champions league yet (1 runner up, 1 semi final, 2 quarter finals)

I have won 3 league titles and 2 Copa del rey's.

My team

Fabian Barthez
Christian Panucci
Sol Campbell
Lauren Blanc
Roberto Carlos
Pep Guardiola
Ivan De la Pena
Luis Enrique
George Finidi
Denilson
Ronaldo 9

Time to bring home the Champions league bacon.

That's a flipping strong team.:joker:

doesn't really sit right with me that your average person has to follow these rules and sit at home watching the elite sports stars earn mega bucks whilst they are travelling up and down the country multiple times a week coming into contact with loads of people (in some teams cases going for a piss up in dubai and some R&R :eyes: )

but suppose same time i hated the leagues getting called early last year, really have a disliking to teams getting called champions without a campaign being fully completed, i know their is a good chance of it happening this season as well in many leagues, if Rangers got handled the title before the season end i'd be a bit mixed about it tbf obviously i'd be happy we won it but its such a massive season in scotland for it to end that way would be an anticlimax, i know it happened with celtic last year as well but it doesn't feel right at all, especially when the prem and other leagues were allowed to carry on after a break and broadcasters were creaming over it

Premier League issues 'enhanced' Covid rules in bid to avoid suspension

- Shirt-swapping banned and warning given against hugging
- Dressing room spot checks now to be carried out

The Premier League has issued a hardline directive to its clubs in a bid to reduce the spread of Covid-19 and threatened action against players who break the rules.

A number of managers have argued the case for a pause in the season while the latest wave of Covid engulfs the country but the Premier League continues to insist the show must go on.

All top-flight clubs have now been given an “enhanced” set of measures that ban all shirt-swapping and warn against handshakes or hugging during matches. The new rules would be ratified at the next shareholders’ meeting but, because of the urgency, the proposals will be implemented immediately.

The Premier League is aware of the rising public anger with high-profile footballers who have flouted lockdown rules in recent weeks and has therefore decided to reinforce the message of responsibility to its clubs and players.

In an email sent to clubs, the Premier League said: “It is vital to ensure public, government and stakeholder confidence in the training and matchday protocols that individual transgressions by relevant persons are appropriately investigated and sanctioned by clubs.

“Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action by the league individually against the relevant person, where appropriate (for example, where his or her conduct brings the league into disrepute) and/or against the club (where the relevant person’s conduct constitutes a breach of the training protocol).”

Among the new rules, spot-checks will be carried out within Premier League dressing rooms while more powers have been given to the Covid-19 compliance officers, who each work with two clubs.

Other measures include limiting the numbers of guests in the matchday directors’ box and reinforcing the rule that substitutes should wear face masks while seated. Indeed, clubs have been warned they can only remove masks when playing, warming up or if giving socially-distanced post-match interviews.

Clubs must now use three separate coaches when driving staff while any external workers likely to come into contact with players – in hotels or during transportation – must have returned a negative Covid-19 test. At the training grounds, “clinical passports” will now be used by all players and staff which can be inspected by the compliance officers.

Clubs will also come under increased scrutiny and investigation if they experience a Covid-19 outbreak. This follows previous outbreaks at Newcastle, Fulham, Sheffield United, Manchester City and now Aston Villa. The Premier League can ill afford for the season to be disrupted, and risk facing further rebates to broadcast partners.

yeah so

at least they didn't asked to postpone (unlike City whom literally had no valid reason to postpone, since a team like City can still make up a decent team out of reserves, while Villa had to improvise)

also nice we had debut of Winston Bogarde's son

A red card, an injury and a loss to the weakest team in the premier league in the same day.

Newcastle the sort of team who might get dragged into the relegation fight but tbf the bottom 4 atm (minus the one from shef utd tonight against newcastle) can't buy a win. 1 win in 20 games for them combined so the likes of bruce are lucky its such a poor relegation fight this season

That looked like a certain penalty when Gibbs handled in his own box..
VAR didn’t even check even though the Wolves players all claimed ..

The ball was bouncing around close to goal line in a crowded box and he cushioned it for the keeper to claim .

We see some crazy penalties given these days but not ones like this ?!?

Great win, should have scored a few. Games like that show how much we've improved imo, last few seasons there'd be nothing in it between us and Burnley and it'd be a pretty awful game but today we actually outplayed them and looked a much better footballing side. Defence is looking really solid now and so much flair going forward with Benrhama and Bowen
