There's nothing more soul-destroying than thinking you've chosen a really well-known city in Barcelona and then watching the entire forum send in a vote for THAT bloody place one by one  I thought "in Europe" would make people automatically stray outside of the UK

Technically I think Niamh's answer should probably count, as I had Niue for one of my answers in the history round (the countries known by former names question) and it was deemed correctThanks for saying that MB, you didn't have to draw attention to the fact you named it as a country too

I think I accepted it for MB because it would've been seen as a country at the time, when it was named "Savage Island", but obviously this pre-dated the whole "recognised by the United Nations" thing so it's a bit of a grey area. If anything it did make me a little inclined to go back and give MB a wrong answer :joker: but it's all good. At least nobody said something embarrassing like John Barrowman

Oh also, re: the Sir David Attenborough question, it has to be one that he has presented and been the key contributor to. If he's popped up as a narrator on someone else's documentary then it won't count. Anything under "Major Projects" here would count: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Attenborough_filmography but "Other programmes" won't because they mostly consist of guest appearances on things like talkshows, interviews, other documentary-makers' work, etc.

If I'm remembering correctly that means I'm just waiting on Jake, Babayaro, Jessica, MB and Daniel (and indeed anyone who missed Round 5)

It happened in one of the previous rounds as well but it didn’t affect me so I let it slide

As stated, an incorrect answer would be worth 21pts this time.

Pointless

1) Name a TV show presented by Sir David Attenborough

Shaun - The First Eden (1987)
Black Dagger - Superfish: Bluefin Tuna
Calderyon - Destruction of the Indian
Liam- - Life in the Freezer
AnnieK - Life in Cold Blood
Rob! - The Lost Gods of Easter Island
Strictly Jake - Wildlife On One
Cal - The Queen's Green Planet
Niamh - Heart of a Nomad
Matthew. - Secrets of Wild India
Ammi - Blue Planet
Cherie - The Trials of Life
Smithy - Life - East Africa (1967)
Denver - A Blank on the Map
MTVN - Secrets of Wild India
Mitchell - Attenborough and Animals
Tony Montana - Dynasties
MB - Animal Crime Scene
Jake. - Dynasties
Babayaro - Uncovering Our Earliest Ancestor: The Link
Jessica - Lost Worlds, Vanished Lives

With 120 correct answers I would've assumed that this would be a damage-free round... it wasn't to be, however.

2) Name an element on the periodic table whose symbol is a single letter

Shaun - Potassium (K)
Black Dagger - Tungsten (W)
Calderyon - Sulfur (S)
Liam- - Hydrogen (H)
AnnieK - Boron (B)
Rob! - Phosphorous (P)
Strictly Jake - Tungsten (W)
Cal - Boron (B)
Niamh - Iodine (I)
Matthew. - Uranium (U)
Ammi - Carbon (C)
Cherie - Oxygen (O)
Smithy - Carbon (C)
Denver - Boron (B)
MTVN - Vanadium (V)
Mitchell - Uranium (U)
Tony Montana - Yttrium (Y)
MB - Potassium (K)
Jake. - Oxygen (O)
Babayaro - Sulfur (S)
Jessica - Sulfur (S)

14 possible answers here and nobody goes for Fluorine (F) or Nitrogen (N). Sulfur and Boron score 2pts, everything else scores 1.

3) Name a type of renewable energy

Shaun - Tidal
Black Dagger - Geothermal
Calderyon - Tidal
Liam- - Hydro
AnnieK - Biomass
Rob! - Tidal
Strictly Jake - Biomass
Cal - Geothermal
Niamh - Tidal
Matthew. - Geothermal
Ammi - Solar
Cherie - Tidal
Smithy - Solar
Denver - Wind
MTVN - Biomass
Mitchell - Tidal
Tony Montana - Tidal
MB - Hydro
Jake. - Wind
Babayaro - Wind
Jessica - Wind

Unsurprisingly, with only six valid answers this was a bit of a mess. Re: the nuclear argument, it involves breaking apart atoms of radioactive materials so will still, technically, run out of materials one day (even if it's far less imminent than fossil fuels). I had to autocorrect a few of these answers since you gave different names for the same source of power. Solar and Hydro score 1, Biomass and Geothermal score 2, Wind scores 3 and Tidal scores 6.

4) Name a moon that is in our solar system (other than Earth's)

Shaun - Albiorix
Black Dagger - Callisto
Calderyon - Galatea
Liam- - Despina
AnnieK - Ganymede
Rob! - Puck
Strictly Jake - Iapetus
Cal - Hegemone
Niamh - Puck
Matthew. - Carme
Ammi - Phobos
Cherie - Suttungr
Smithy - Sinope
Denver - Himalia
MTVN - Iapetus
Mitchell - Ananke
Tony Montana - Proteus
MB - S/2004 S 22
Jake. - Belinda
Babayaro - Euanthe
Jessica - Ijiraq

So many beautiful names from poetry and classic civilisation here... but it doesn't get more striking than S/2004 S 22  Puck and Iapetus score 1.

5) Name someone who's won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry

Shaun - Adolf Butenandt
Black Dagger - Frederick Soddy
Calderyon - Luis F Leloir
Liam- - Melvin Calvin
AnnieK - Dan Schechtman
Rob! - Ben Feringa
Strictly Jake - Adolf Butenandt
Cal - Walter Gilbert
Niamh - Fritz Pregl
Matthew. - Alan J Heeger
Ammi - John B Goodenough
Cherie - R. A. Zsigmondy
Smithy - Aziz Sincar
Denver - Irwin Rose
MTVN - Willard Libby
Mitchell - Richard Martin Willstaetter
Tony Montana - Gerhard Ertl
MB - Wendell Meredith Stanley
Jake. - John B Fenn
Babayaro - George Charles de Hevesy
Jessica - Otto Paul Hermann Diels

"Surely no one else will pick the one called Adolf who won during the era of Nazi Germany," Shaun naively thought.

6) Name an animal to have suffered at the hands of poachers

Shaun - Coyotes
Black Dagger - Lemurs
Calderyon - Pangolins
Liam- - Chestnut-mandibled toucans
AnnieK - Chacma baboons
Rob! - Impalas
Strictly Jake - Pangolins
Cal - Pacific parakeets
Niamh - Gorillas
Matthew. - Pangolins
Ammi - Rhinos
Cherie - Grouses
Smithy - Thylacines
Denver - Muskoxen
MTVN - Wattled guans
Mitchell - Lemurs (no chicken's do not count because their eggs are "poached" :oh: )
Tony Montana - Lemurs
MB - Spiny dogfish
Jake. - Lemurs
Babayaro - Lemurs
Jessica - Asian elephants

Was looking nice and peaceful until the stragglers all came in talking about lemurs. They score 4pts, whilst Pangolins score 2.

7) Name a species of bird native to the UK

Shaun - Bittern
Black Dagger - Long Tailed Tit :hehe:
Calderyon - Dunnock
Liam- - Yellowhammer
AnnieK - Great cormorant
Rob! - Fieldfare
Strictly Jake - Great tit :hehe:
Cal - Scottish Crossbill
Niamh - Turnstone
Matthew. - Great tit :hehe:
Ammi - Robin
Cherie - Jackdaw
Smithy - Common shelduck
Denver - Cretzschmar's bunting
MTVN - Hawfinch
Mitchell - Magpie
Tony Montana - Starling
MB - St. Kilda Wren
Jake. - Nightjar
Babayaro - Eurasian spoonbill
Jessica - Dipper

...something something "not so great tits".

8) Name a country severely impacted by the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004

Shaun - Bangladesh
Black Dagger - Somalia
Calderyon - Seychelles
Liam- - India
AnnieK - Somalia
Rob! - Madagascar
Strictly Jake - Kenya
Cal - Mauritius
Niamh - Somalia
Matthew. - Myanmar
Ammi - Indonesia
Cherie - India
Smithy - Myanmar
Denver - Madagascar
MTVN - Somalia
Mitchell - Somalia
Tony Montana - Kenya
MB - Myanmar
Jake. - Seychelles
Babayaro - Australia
Jessica - Tanzania

Other valid answers would've included Yemen, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, South Africa... basically anywhere on the East of Africa or touching the Indian ocean, really. In a way I'm glad this happened before social media was really a thing, because the devastation caused by this is frightening enough without super-visceral first hand footage readily retweetable. Seychelles, India, Kenya and Madagascar score 1, Myanmar scores 2, whilst Somalia scores 4.

9) Name a type of poisonous mushroom

Shaun - Club-footed clitocybe
Black Dagger - Deadly skullcap (galerina marginata)
Calderyon - Cinnamon webcap
Liam- - Fly agaric (amanita muscaria)
AnnieK - Destroying angel
Rob! - Destroying angel
Strictly Jake - Fools funnel
Cal - Club-footed clitocybe
Niamh - Fly agaric (amanita muscaria)
Matthew. - Fools funnel
Ammi - Death cap
Cherie - Spiny puffball
Smithy - Panther cap
Denver - Angels wing
MTVN - Lepiota subincarnata
Mitchell - Poison champagne amanita
Tony Montana - Deadly skullcap (galerina marginata)
MB - Liberty cap
Jake. - Fly agaric (amanita muscaria)
Babayaro - "Little white mushroom" (trogia venenata)
Jessica - Sulfur tuft (hypholoma fasciculare)

Turned out to be the trickiest question to moderate because I had to make sure the scientific names some of you were giving weren't the same as their common names (and, indeed, some were). Everything here scores 1 point with the exception of the fly agaric mushroom, scoring 2.

10) Name one of the body's five senses.

Shaun - Hearing
Black Dagger - Touch
Calderyon - Sight
Liam- - Smell
AnnieK - Smell
Rob! - Smell
Strictly Jake - Taste
Cal - Hearing
Niamh - Hearing
Matthew. - Touch
Ammi - Sight
Cherie - Smell
Smithy - Touch
Denver - Taste
MTVN - Hearing
Mitchell - Smell
Tony Montana - Hearing
MB - Smell
Jake. - Touch
Babayaro - Sight
Jessica - Hearing

Tasting comes off best here with just the 1pt. Sight is next-best with 2pts. Touching manages a reasonable 3, but Hearing and Smelling are the worst pair with 5pts each.

Scores

Ammi - 4
Smithy - 7
Denver - 7
Liam- - 9
MB - 9
Cal - 10
Jessica - 10
Strictly Jake - 10
Babayaro - 11
Calderyon - 13
Cherie - 13
Jake. - 13
Matthew. - 13
MTVN - 13
AnnieK - 14
Rob! - 14
Shaun - 14
Black Dagger - 15
Niamh - 17
Tony Montana - 18
Mitchell - 20

Film

1. Name a film starring Amy Adams
2. Name someone who has directed a Batman film
3. Name a popular genre of film
4. Name a film with a type of animal in its (English) title
5. Name a Disney prince (not princess!)
6. Name a horror film franchise
7. Name a character that has been portrayed by Robert De Niro
8. Name a film that won Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards, other than Parasite
9. Name a film that won Best Picture at the Academy Awards in the 1980s
10. Name a film starring Sean Penn

For the Pointless round: all "name a film..." questions must be cinema (or Netflix/Amazon) releases; no straight to DVD nonsense thank you! For #4, the type of animal can be singular or plural, so go wild with that one. In the likely event that Amy Adams happens to also be the name of a less famous actress, I am specifically asking for the famous one  For #7, I want a full name that he is credited for in the film... no "cameo" appearances or extra work before he was famous, thanks! For #9, any film that won Best Picture at the Oscars between 1980 and 1989 is eligible; I know the winner in 1990 will have been released in the 80s but it's still a 90s ceremony.

It was just an observation Ammi, I didn’t expect a big debate about it, I did it myself in the first round with the channel BB was aired on, and other people have done it as well though not in as many questions so its a well done from me, why can’t you just take it as a compliment rather than making a drama out if it

...an ‘observation’ made publicly, Cherie, that’s the difference...and as you say, it’s not considered an unusual tactic in any way and is one you have used yourself...anyways I don’t have anything else to say...you’re completely aware of ‘your tactic’ by declaring it publicly, rather than using it to ‘out tactic’...and as you yourself said a bit earlier in the thread...your ‘declaring and non declaring’ are not necessarily consistent...

..I tried so hard to not put more ‘top answers’ but still ones that were less obscure etc...I googled and googled and agonised etc to try to get ‘that middle ground’...I guess that I was just as rubbish at the tactical part than at the non tactical part...tactical playing is not a natural mindset for me...

Shaun outed me in the first round, and I declared myself as well so not sure what the issue is here tbh

With regard to the miscounting that person is no longer playing, it’s not really an issue of consistency, more that their score plus one didn’t impact anyone

I shall bow out as well now, feels kinda pointless!

Good luck with the game everyone else, and thanks for running Shaun

Film

I'm confused at the bit in red regarding Amy Adams

Oh and for Pointless erm...

#1 - self explanatory, open to interpretation, but if you say something like "minced lamb" I will throw it out the window
#2 - must have at least 5 outlets in different towns and cities around the country
#3 - There are 29 players with 100 or more Premier League goals, and they must be goals scored after the Premier League was formed in 1992/93 (they can't have carried over from before then)
#4 - pretty self-explanatory but it must be a bar, not a bag or a lolly or whatever
#5 - I suppose this is kinda open to interpretation since there are GCSEs for increasing numbers of subjects, but I won't accept college courses in becoming a beautician, or other apprenticeships, etc, it has to be an academic subject.
#6 - again, self-explanatory, and not really much room for error
#7 - "popular" is always subjective in Pointless, if it exists in more than 1 or 2 (different chains of) bars it's obviously well known enough to count
#8 - I mean a domestic home garden here
#9 - The answer to this must be electronic, I won't allow something like "ear plugs when you work with pneumatic drills lol x"
#10 - self-explanatory

I prefer Marvel films, but like others have said I would associate her much more with Enchanted, it's her film more than her having a small part in a bigger film.

Shaun
02-09-2020, 03:30 PM
I think the Tim Burton ones being held in mixed reviews (and also being as far back as like, what, 1996 if not earlier?) probably made him doubtable in people's heads. The Nolan trilogy is much more recent and extremely well received, so it was a no-brainer for me.

I will spare the person who said Parasite the shame of naming them :hee:

Shaun
02-09-2020, 03:32 PM
I went for Arrival for Amy but knew it'd be a risk because it's not a huge blockbuster film (but luckily it wasn't that bad of a risk). I knew it'd be between that and Enchanted as her standout roles (obviously she's been tonnes of movies but those are the two I associate with her the most, followed perhaps by 'Her').

Two incorrect answers this time, and they're worth 20pts apiece.

Pointless

1) Name a movie starring Amy Adams

Shaun - Junebug
Mitchell - The Muppets
Denver - Her
Niamh - Drop Dead Gorgeous
Calderyon - Leap Year
Tony Montana - Underdog
MTVN - Julie and Julia
Strictly Jake - Standing Still
Jake - Catch Me If You Can
AnnieK - Doubt
Smithy - The Woman in the Window - extremely cheeky to name a film not yet out, but it technically is allowable :oh:
Cherie - Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
Black Dagger - Junebug
Liam- - Underdog
MB - Julie and Julia
Matthew. - The Muppets
Cal - Junebug
Rob! - Standing Still
Babayaro - Catch Me If You Can
Jessica - On the Road

Plenty of different common answers here so there isn't too much damage. Junebug scores 2, all of the others score 1.

2) Name someone who has directed a Batman film

Shaun - Erick Radomski
Mitchell - Tim Burton
Denver - Erick Radomski
Niamh - Joel Schumacher
Calderyon - Joel Schumacher
Tony Montana - Tim Burton
MTVN - Christopher Nolan
Strictly Jake - Tim Burton
Jake - Tim Burton
AnnieK - Tim Burton
Smithy - Chris McKay
Cherie - Tim Burton
Black Dagger - Chris McKay
Liam- - Tim Maltby
MB - Joel Schumacher
Matthew. - Tim Burton
Cal. - Leslie H Matinson
Rob! - Leslie H Matinson
Babayaro - Leslie H Matinson
Jessica - Leslie H Matinson

Not many correct answers here, but MTVN somehow pulls off a miracle by naming the Top Answer. The only other is a small directorial performance from Tim Maltby. Tim Burton scores a big 6 here, and Leslie Matinson scores 3. Joel Schumacher scores 2, and the others just 1.

3) Name a popular genre of film

Shaun - Animated
Mitchell - Sports
Denver - Western
Niamh - Musical
Calderyon - Political drama
Tony Montana - Fantasy
MTVN - Biopic
Strictly Jake - Silent
Jake - Stop motion animation
AnnieK - Western
Smithy - Comedy
Cherie - Western
Black Dagger - War
Liam- - Comedy
MB - Heist
Matthew. - Slice of Life
Cal. - Slice of Life
Rob! - Western
Babayaro - Silent
Jessica - Martial Arts

Some of you gave different names for pretty much the same thing as someone else ("cowboy" and "western" for example) so they've been merged :oh: Western scores 3, silent, comedy and slice of life score 1.

4) Name a film with a type of animal in its title

Shaun - Alvin & the Chipmunks
Mitchell - The Pink Panther
Denver - Water for Elephants
Niamh - Man About Dog
Calderyon - Sonic the Hedgehog
Tony Montana - Cats and Dogs
MTVN - Ratcatcher
Strictly Jake - Elmer Elephant
Jake - Top Cat: The Movie
AnnieK - The Deer Hunter
Smithy - Conquest of the Planet of the Apes
Cherie - The Country Bears
Black Dagger - The Bear
Liam- - Megalodon
MB - Hell Comes to Frogtown
Matthew. - Shark Tale
Cal. - Piranha 3D
Rob! - Antz
Babayaro - Rat Race
Jessica - Piranha 3D

Extremely close to a completely pointless question here, until Jessica came along and RUINED it for her and Cal :oh:

5) Name a Disney Prince (not Princess!)

Shaun - Naveen (Princess and the Frog)
Mitchell - John (Robin Hood)
Denver - Beast (Beauty and the Beast)
Niamh - Eric (The Little Mermaid)
Calderyon - Li Shang (Mulan)
Tony Montana - Aladdin (Aladdin)
MTVN - Naveen (Princess and the Frog)
Strictly Jake - Li Shang (Mulan)
Jake - Aladdin (Aladdin)
AnnieK - Naveen (Princess and the Frog)
Smithy - Naveen (Princess and the Frog)
Cherie - Flynn (Tangled)
Black Dagger - Naveen (Princess and the Frog)
Liam- - Naveen (Princess and the Frog)
MB - Eric (The Little Mermaid)
Matthew. - Phillip (Sleeping Beauty)
Cal. - Hubert (Brave)
Rob! - Beast (Beauty and the Beast)
Babayaro - Aladdin (Aladdin)
Jessica - Flynn (Tangled)

I can't find any evidence that Li Shang was any form of royalty in Mulan, sorry - I haven't seen the movie but from my quick glance at Wikipedia he's just a warrior? The big correct scorer here is Naveen with 5pts. Aladdin scores 2. Eric, Li Shang, Beast and Flynn score 1.

6) Name a horror movie franchise

Shaun - The Purge
Mitchell - Saw
Denver - The Babysitter
Niamh - The Slumber Party Massacre
Calderyon - Living Dead
Tony Montana - Wrong Turn
MTVN - The Slumber Party Massacre
Strictly Jake - Cabin Fever

Black Dagger - Insidious
Liam- - Evil Dead
MB - Silent Night, Deadly Night
Matthew. - The Slumber Party Massacre
Cal. - The Slumber Party Massacre
Rob! - Leprechaun
Babayaro - Underworld
Jessica - King Kong

Nice and easy question for me to count up scores with, as there's just one shared answer and it's worth 3 points!

7) Name a character portrayed, in film, by Robert de Niro

Shaun - Lt. Moe Tilden (Cop Land)
Mitchell - Leslie "Billy" Sunday (Men of Honor)
Denver - Emperor Sifrat XVI (Arthur and the Invisibles)
Niamh - Harry Fabian (Night and the City)
Calderyon - Al Capone (Untouchables)
Tony Montana - Al Capone (Untouchables)
MTVN - Bruce Pearson (Bang the Drum Slowly)
Strictly Jake - The Creature (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein)
Jake - Lt. Col. Richard "Dick" Kelly (Dirty Grandpa)

Cherie - Frank Raftis (Falling in Love)
Black Dagger - Captain Shakespeare (Stardust)
Liam- - Leonard Lowe (Awakenings)

Matthew. - Eddie Fleming (15 Minutes)
Cal. - Dwight Hansen (This Boy's Life)
Rob! - Arthur Lustig (Great Expectations)
Babayaro - Fearless Leader (The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle)
Jessica - Stanley Cox (Stanley & Iris)

Just the one shared answer again this time, and it's only worth a point, so no harm done :spin2:

8) Name a movie, other than Parasite, that has won the Best International Feature Film prize at the Academy Awards

Shaun - Z (1969)
Mitchell - Babette's Feast (1987)
Denver - Z (1969)
Niamh - Sundays and Cybele (1962)
Calderyon - Closely Watched Trains (1968)
Tony Montana - Madame Rosa (1977)
MTVN - Dersu Uzala (1975)
Strictly Jake - Dangerous Moves (1984)
Jake - Kolya (1996)
AnnieK - Life is Beautiful (1998)
Smithy - The Virgin Spring (1960)

Cal. - Sundays and Cybele (1962)
Rob! - Nowhere in Africa (2002)
Babayaro - Antonia's Line (1995)
Jessica - Mephisto (1981)

Went to the trouble and put the year they won the Award in brackets, just in case any of you want to go and brush up on some culture! 3 different similar answers this time, two are worth 1pt but Closely Watched Trains scores 2.

9) Name a film that won Best Picture at the Academy Awards between 1980 and 1989.

Shaun - Out of Africa
Mitchell - Amadeus
Denver - Out of Africa
Niamh - Rain Man
Calderyon - Amadeus
Tony Montana - Gandhi
MTVN - Ordinary People
Strictly Jake - Out of Africa
Jake - Terms of Endearment
AnnieK - Amadeus
Smithy - Driving Miss Daisy
Cherie - The Last Emperor
Black Dagger - Platoon
Liam- - Platoon
MB - Rain Man
Matthew. - Terms of Endearment
Cal. - Platoon
Rob! - Platoon
Babayaro - Gandhi
Jessica - Gandhi

With only ten potential answers, it is no real shock that only 3 pointless answers scraped through. Rain Man and Terms of Endearment score 1. Gandhi, Out of Africa and Amadeus score 2. Platoon scores 3. Chariots of Fire would have been a Pointless answer if it had been used at all.

10) Name a film starring Sean Penn

Shaun - It's All About Love
Mitchell - It's All About Love
Denver - The Beaver Trilogy
Niamh - Loved
Calderyon - Carlito's Way
Tony Montana - Carlito's Way
MTVN - Hurlyburly
Strictly Jake - The Angry Birds Movie
Jake - The Angry Birds Movie
AnnieK - Casualties of War
Smithy - Taps
Cherie - Into the Wild

Liam- - State of Grace
MB - The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Matthew. - Pauly Shore is Dead
Cal. - The Falcon and the Snowman
Rob! - Up at the Villa
Babayaro - It's All About Love
Jessica - Taps

If you weren't pointless, and you didn't say "It's All About Love", you only score a point.

MB - 7
Denver - 8
Jessica - 8
Niamh - 8
Smithy - 8

Yeah i saw him too when i was looking. I was going to choose Simba but was afraid that because he's an animal he wouldn't count (even though the film is literally called The Lion King)

Also, how did 4 of us choose the bloody Slumber Party Massacre???? Literally had never heard of those films and thought I was being really obscure

Shaun
02-09-2020, 04:18 PM
Simba would've been fine because his father is "the King" so he's literally a prince by default... but there's literally no royal family in any of Mulan or Li Shang's lineage so I just can't really see how he's a "prince". Same with Pocahontas/John Smith.

Someone even named a Prince who has no love interest because he's one of the kid princes in 'Brave'... it's just a question of wording IMO.

This is on the disney wiki page

John Smith and Li shang are not considered royalty but are both still considered a "prince" because their respective love interests,*Pocahontas*and*Mulan, are official*Disney Princesses.

The*Disney Princes*are the official line-up of male leads who are the love interests of the*Disney Princesses.

The question was name a disney prince. Li shang is classed as a disney prince.

You didnt mention they had to be royalty. They have to be a disney prince. There was no other instructions about that.

If you wont rectify this then Im backing out as I cant possibly catch up now. I wasnt anywhere near the top to start with so cant you just accept it?

For the Pointless round: all "name a film..." questions must be cinema (or Netflix/Amazon) releases; no straight to DVD nonsense thank you! For #4, the type of animal can be singular or plural, so go wild with that one. In the likely event that Amy Adams happens to also be the name of a less famous actress, I am specifically asking for the famous one**For #7, I want a full name that he is credited for in the film... no "cameo" appearances or extra work before he was famous, thanks! For #9, any film that won Best Picture at the Oscars between 1980 and 1989 is eligible; I know the winner in 1990 will have been released in the 80s but it's still a 90s ceremony.

Then your game is made up as you go along.

Here are some of the pointless rounds you have done

could be mean and dismiss "Jonathan Jacob" as incorrect answer because he was a competition-winner and not a "celebrity" but I'm feeling nice here

whilst 'Beatles VI' and 'Beatles 65' wouldn't technically count, it's also super hard to make a case for why they shouldn't, and at the end of the day, I just don't care x

Technically "Ocean Shield" is an anti-terrorism initiative but it does involve a military organisation (NATO) so it technically might count?

The Guy Fawkes thing...

I'm up for putting the incorrect answer to TiBB here since it's a tricky area; Niue is a "self governing nation in free association with New Zealand" but... technically isn't an independent country recognised by the UN

. Re: the nuclear argument, it involves breaking apart atoms of radioactive materials so will still, technically, run out of materials one day (even if it's far less imminent than fossil fuels).

^so he became a prince in the duration of the film, yes

re: that post Jake, take what you want from it. All of those examples are either things that were corrected before the round closed (eg. Smithy's nuclear error), or things that are not black and white. Guy Fawkes died during his execution, Niue is a "semi-independent country", the classification of "studio album" in the 1960s is a grey area.

When it comes to this answer, however, a quick glance over the summary of the film reveals that Li Shang is not a Prince. He is the "son of an army general". If some people say he is, because it's easy for Disney fans to categorise their characters lazily, they are wrong. I asked for a prince and there's really no more debate that I'm willing to listen to on the matter.

I understand it's frustrating that I can't clarify everything in this game but that's because of many reasons:

1) I can't name examples of answers without it influencing people's answers (especially for Top Answers)
2) I can't reply to every PM with corrections because some people like to leave it until 2am of the night it's due
3) I can't read every PM before I count the scores because I'm trying to find the time to answer the questions myself and without taking cues from other people
4) I do not have the time or patience to eliminate every single possible outlier or misinterpretation of a question. The onus is on you, the players, to carefully answer the questions yourselves.

In all honesty Jake, as someone who was so upset with accusations that you made up your 2nd strictly game as you went along, I find it quite disappointing that you would make similar accusations about another host, Shaun takes a lot of time and effort to run this game and has been extremely lenient and fair in the last few rounds, and always replies to me if I ask if I’m allowed an answer.

Is this about me fiddling with the pinata at your 16th birthday party

You have a sick and rather twisted mind, actually.

No problem Jake, I understand that some of the rules and technicalities are confusing and I should've tried to point more things out.

I haven't opened any PMs yet because I haven't decided on my own answers, but this new round closes tonight and I've so far had PMs from (in order): James, Rob!, Niamh, Strictly Jake, Matthew, Mitchell, Calderyon, Amy Jade, Jake, MB, Denver, Smithy, Cherie and Liam-

Off the top of my head that means I'm only needing answers from AnnieK, MTVN, Babayaro, Black Dagger, Jessica, Daniel, Tony Montana and Cal (sorry if I've missed you)

Niamh.
03-09-2020, 01:38 PM
Oh I asked you a question in mine Shaun, I thought you were ignoring me for being a cheeky ****er :skull:

Shaun
03-09-2020, 01:43 PM
:D I saw you sent a separate answer change, I'll reply when I've just done mine sorry.

Niamh.

No that wasn't it, I sent you a new message with no answers

Shaun
03-09-2020, 02:06 PM
All sorted (I think)

There haven't been any problems in the PMs I've seen so far but I will clarify one more thing: the "popular chocolate bar manufactured by Mars" doesn't have to be one still in circulation, it can be one of the past for Pointless. (I might've already clarified this but idk I'm tired and dazed). I think I originally only clarified it has to be a chocolate bar and not a bag, or lollipop, or chewy candy or whatever.

23 sets of answers once again! And yes, the questions were a bit odd and Family Fortunesy... so we've got some pretty mixed results.

I need to get some sleep so I'll do Pointless' results tomorrow. In the meantime, here's Round 9 to keep you occupied. I apologise in advance... it is a toughie.

Video Games

1. Name a type of animal breed that can be a neighbour in the Animal Crossing series
2. Name a console released by Sega
3. Name a character that appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, 2018's Nintendo Switch game
4. Name a film that has been adapted from a video game
5. Name one of the "types" in the Pokemon series, other than "Fire", "Water" or "Grass"
6. Name a video game where zombies are featured prominently
7. Name a button that features on any PlayStation controller
8. Name a game that people play on their mobile phones, other than "Candy Crush Saga"
9. Name one of the "Killers" on the 2016 video game "Dead By Daylight"
10. Name an original game developed and released by the company 'Valve Corporation'

For pointless:

#1 - I'm looking for a breed of animal here that isn't too specific; I am not looking for a villager's name and I won't accept it.
#2 - This can be a home console, or a handheld (if they even did those). I won't accept arcade machines.
#3 - They must be a playable character. I'm not familiar with the game but if there're any NPCs in it (in the backgrounds, perhaps), they won't count.
#4 - Pretty straightforward; the video game has to have been released before the film.
#5 - There are 18 identified pokemon types, so take away the 3 in the question and you have 15 acceptable answers. "???" and "Shadow" are not acceptable answers.
#6 - Open to interpretation, but I think there are enough in this genre to get annoyed if someone says "Oh there was a zombie in this Luigi's Mansion game once :)"
#7 - The PlayStation controllers I am considering are for the PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5. Any other consoles or handheld devices are not wanted.
#8 - Pretty open category here, it has to be a game though and not just a social media app.
#9 - There are, as of next Tuesday, 21 Killers in this game. Any that were trialed and scrapped prior to release do not count.
#10 - Whilst responsible for the game service Steam, Valve Corp. are directly only responsible for the development and distribution of 38 different games: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Valve_games Any cancelled in development, or currently under development, do not count.
