View Full Version : Top Answers Game #8 (+Pointless Companion) - Final Results!

Hello all. In my long and arduous TiBB career there aren't many games that have escaped my control and so it seems only fair that I give this one a bash. I have a lot to live up to in Niamh, Benjamin and Z, but... I think I can handle it. I mean... I am me :idc:
-places ego in the cupboard-
Top Answers
For returning players: welcome back! For anyone wondering what the hell I'm on about, here's how Top Answers works:
- There will be 10 separate rounds for members to participate in and accumulate points towards the grand final. All of these rounds have a theme, and I might as well tell you what they are in advance. In order: Big Brother, Music, History, Celebrities, Geography, Nature & Science, Film, General Knowledge, Video Games, and Television & Literature.
- In each round, I will prompt you to give an example of what the question demands. For example: "Name a country beginning with the letter L". All you have to do is PM me with your 10 answers for that round, that you think will be the most popular answer on TiBB. If you really think Lithuania is the most obvious answer, say that. In this edition your answer doesn't even have to be correct, whatever the TiBB masses say the most gets the most points.
- So, for example, if I get 20 sets of answers and 18 of you say "Latvia", then those 18 members would receive 18 points. The other two, who said "Lithuania", would receive 2 points.
TLDR: It's Family Fortunes. Or Family Feud. Whatever your country calls it.
- At the end of the round I'll announce the scores and put everyone's curiosity to bed... what WAS the most popular country beginning with L  was it Luxembourg? Surely it wasn't Lesotho? and we'll all move on to the next round. Each round will remain open for two days. I'm not gonna say 48 hours because I do not plan things that meticulously.
BUT WAIT... there's more...
Pointless
- Here's where my previous expertise comes in. In the past I have sometimes run a corresponding game with Niamh where - as per the quiz show 'Pointless' - I ask members to submit a correct answer to every question but also happens to be one that you think no other member will submit. So to borrow our old L Countries example, you might be more tempted to answer 'Liechtenstein' or 'Laos' for this one because it's not as well-known to us simple Europeans as 'Latvia'.
- At the end of the round I will take all unique scores and give them "0" points. Everyone else who submits the same answer will incur a point... depending on the number of sharing persons. For example: if, by some atrocity, 9 of you all said "Laos", then you would score 8 points (because 2 people sharing would be 1 point) for that question.
- There's an element of peril, however, because if you give me an answer that is not correct, I have to give you maximum points (the number of people who participated in that question). So before you go saying 'Lapland', think twice and do some bloody research :oh: otherwise you'll score 20pts for one question.
- At the end of the game the person with the lowest combined total score will win.
TLDR AGAIN: If you want to play both, you can, just think of them as putting your Family Fortunes answer and Pointless answer in the same PM. If you want to differentiate between your answers with fancy colours then feel free, otherwise just write "Top - Latvia, Pointless - Laos" or something similar. If this really gets a little too complicated for you, you can send me two separate PMs for your different answers, but that would be a slight strain on my inbox :worry: Or indeed you can bin the whole thing off and just submit your Top Answers, or just your Pointless answers; whatever floats your boat :spin2:
In order to keep things fair, I will answer every question for the round before I post them, otherwise I'll start receiving PMs and seeing other answers that affect my decisions. I am 99% sure this was all too much explanation but I just wanted to cover every base before we start.
Oh... yeah... let's start then!

11 sets of answers so far (including my own), I'll list them in case anyone thinks they've submitted theirs but they haven't: Mitchell, Matthew, MTVN, James, Rob!, parmnion, MB, Strictly Jake, Calderyon and Niamh.
I'll probably edit this post with more names as I receive them rather than do a new post every time
I just thought of a much better Pointless answer for one of the questions :fist:

Reminder that you have until the early hours of tomorrow to submit votes for either game! I'll post the results at a very silly time indeed.
A question for #1 can that be like week 1 or whatever or does it have to be the week of the final
It can mean anyone that was evicted, and therefore did not make the final. But for the Pointless game, they have to have been evicted (and not walked, or ejected)

I think in hindsight I could've gone for a gentler introduction to the game, yeah, I just immediately thought "okay, Big Brother is the reason we're all here, let's kick off with that" without thinking about how much recollection it'd require for non-super-fans  The questions for other rounds should be easier, at least when it comes to Top Answers. Pointless
24 of you elected to take part in Pointless as well, and here's how the scores break down... unique correct answers (i.e "pointless" answers) will be in blue. Incorrect answers will be in red and are each worth 24 points. I'm sorry if I couldn't reply to you in time, but I was quite clear with what the requirements were and it's fine; mistakes are easy to overcome in this game.
Oh, and, small reminder: I did say you could choose housemates from other international seasons for some of these, unless the question specifically asked for BBUK :hee: so unfortunately, a fair few shared BBUK answers were submitted.
1. Name a housemate that was evicted before the final in Big Brother 1 (UK)
Shaun - Caroline O'Shea
Niamh - Tom McDermott
Matthew. - Caroline O'Shea
MTVN - Nichola Holt

Daniel - Andrew Davidson
Ammi - Andrew Davidson

Cal - Claire Strutton
Tony Montana - Claire Strutton
Jake - Andrew Davidson
Tom & Caroline score 1pt
Nichola Holt scores 3pts
Claire Strutton scores 5pts
Andrew Davidson scores 7pts
Nobody answered with "Melanie Hill" which would've been the only pointless answer
2. Name a celebrity that "Hijacked" the house in 2007's E4 show "Big Brother: Celebrity HiJack"
Shaun - Gemma Merna
Niamh - Janet Street-Porter
Matthew. - Kate Lawler
MTVN - Peaches Geldof

Babayaro - Andy McNab
Cal - Fifi Brown
Tony Montana - Jimmy Carr
Jake - Nicole Appleton
Brian Sewell scores 1pt
Fifi Brown & Gemma Merna score 2pts
Andy McNab scores 3pts
Everyone else manages a correct pointless answer, which is impressive! I could be mean and dismiss "Jonathan Jacob" as incorrect answer because he was a competition-winner and not a "celebrity" but I'm feeling nice here, since he did hijack the house for a day. Other potential pointless answers include James Corden, Dermot O'Leary, Craig David, Denise Van Outen and Ian Wright!
3. Name a female winner of the series
Shaun - Nevila Omeri
Niamh - Isabelle Warburton
Matthew. - Nadia Almada
MTVN - Chloe Wilburn

Jake - Chloe Wilburn
Isabelle & Nadia score 1pt
Sophie Reade scores 3pts
Chloe Wilburn scores 7pts
A big congratulations to Dogeatdog and LukeB here for not only sticking with the BBUK theme, but pulling off a pointless answer. Only a handful drifted abroad, so we're left with a lot of points.
4. Name a housemate that walked from their series
Shaun - Donny Tourette
Niamh - Jonathan Durden
Matthew. - Megan Lowder
MTVN - Laura McAdam
Rob! - Laura McAdam

Tony Montana - Mark Henderson
Jake - George Askew
Mark, Donny & Laura score 1pt
Jonathan Durden scores 2pts
George Askew scores 3pts
A strong showing for pointless scores here, considering the world was your oyster... but a big number of pointless BBUK names here too!
5. Name a housemate whose first name begins with the letter B (full name please!)
Shaun - Bastien Grimal
Niamh - Billi Bhatti
Matthew. - Bill 'Bunky' Miller
MTVN - Biannca Lake

Jake - Becki Seddiki
I'm afraid I have to discount "Bez" because his full name is Mark Berry :worry:
Billi & Belinda score 1pt
Biannca scores 2pts
Becki & Ben score 3pts
Other pointless BBUK names could've been Brian Belo, Brigitte Nielsen, Ben Adams and Becky Hannon.
6. Name a country where Big Brother also has its own original series, other than the UK and USA
Shaun - Slovakia
Niamh - Italy
Matthew. - Italy

A very difficult category to pull off a pointless answer in considering there's only 22 possible answers, so well done to those that did. But a lot of other names unused were Sarah Harding, Charlotte Crosby, Stephen Bear, Jack Dee, Shilpa Shetty, Alex Reid, Ulrika Jonsson and Denise Welsh.

Music
1. Name a studio album released by The Beatles (no Greatest Hits or compilations)
2. Name a member of the UK girl group 'The Saturdays'
3. Name a winner of Best Original Song at the Academy Awards (just a song title will suffice)
4. Pick a section of an orchestra (brass, woodwind, percussion or strings?)
5. Name a single that has reached #1 in the UK Top 40 at some point in 2020
6. Name a song with a colour in its song title
7. Name an annual awards ceremony that celebrates music in some capacity
8. Name a popular UK music festival
9. Name a member of the 27 Club
10. Name a single released by Stevie Wonder
For the Pointless edition: Wikipedia will very much be your friend here. The Beatles had 12 studio albums, so double check which one you submit because some of them were limited country-specific releases. Make sure you don't submit a song that was NOMINATED for Best Original Song instead of actually winning it. For question 10, any single released featuring Stevie Wonder will count, but I won't allow songs he's been sampled in, or songs he's performing an instrument on

I'm mostly intrigued by Bonnie being the most popular answer for first evictee tbh... I chose her because she sprung to my mind for some reason, but in hindsight I'd have thought everyone would go for the first one, or the most recent  very odd

Everyone else manages a correct pointless answer, which is impressive! I could be mean and dismiss "Jonathan Jacob" as incorrect answer because he was a competition-winner and not a "celebrity" but I'm feeling nice here, since he did hijack the house for a day. I was open to accepting "Bez" to be honest but I had another member say they wanted to submit Bubble from BB2 despite his first name being Paul... but the question does specifically ask for a full name so it'd be unfair to allow it.

I won't be doing a total score after every round, just to keep things interesting, but I will do one at the halfway stage (after Round 5!) Congratulations here go to Daniel (again) and Liam, ten points ahead of the pack :clap2:
....Daniel and Liam......well done you musical marvels...
...oh I’m just properly looking at the scores now, I was in my sleep time before...those top ones are really so close and quite stunning...Lucas and MB and Smith and Amy and Cal and Mitchell and MTVN and etc...all wonderful scores...well done.....

Pointless
23 sets of answers this time, so each incorrect answer is worth 23pts! Let's dive in.
1) Name a studio album released by The Beatles
Shaun - Magical Mystery Tour
Mitchell - Something New
Niamh - With The Beatles
Matthew. - A Hard Day's Night
Smithy - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
MTVN - Rubber Soul
Strictly Jake - Rubber Soul
Rob! - Beatles '65
Calderyon - A Hard Day's Night
Daniel. - Rubber Soul
Tony Montana - Rubber Soul
Cal - A Hard Day's Night
Jake. - Beatles VI
Black Dagger - Revolver
Cherie - Beatles VI
Liam- - Introducing the Beatles
Denver - Abbey Road
Jessica - The White Album
Ammi - Rubber Soul
parmnion - Please Please Me
MB - Beatles for Sale
AnnieK - Rubber Soul
Babayaro - Help!
Rubber Soul is the most popular answer here, scoring 5pts. A Hard Day's Night scores 2pts, whilst Beatles VI scores 1pt. I was initially going to be very mean and say "NO, NOT A STUDIO ALBUM", but honestly? The 60s were hella confusing with what the hell constituted a studio album and what didn't, so whilst 'Beatles VI' and 'Beatles 65' wouldn't technically count, it's also super hard to make a case for why they shouldn't, and at the end of the day, I just don't care x
2) Name a member of the Saturdays
Shaun - Una
Mitchell - Rochelle
Niamh - Una
Matthew. - Mollie
Smithy - Rochelle
MTVN - Frankie
Strictly Jake - Frankie
Rob! - Una
Calderyon - Una
Daniel. - Frankie
Tony Montana - Mollie
Cal - Mollie
Jake. - Rochelle
Black Dagger - Una
Cherie - Frankie
Liam- - Frankie
Denver - Una
Jessica - Mollie
Ammi - Una
parmnion - Mollie
MB - Una
AnnieK - Vanessa
Babayaro - Rochelle
Perhaps leaving it until the last minute is a pro strategy, because AnnieK sauntered in here with a pointless answer from a pool of only five possible answers! Well done :clap1: Una was the answer of death here, scoring an eye-watering 7pts. Mollie and Frankie score you 4pts, Rochelle scores 3pts.
3) Name a winner of Best Original Song at the Academy Awards
Shaun - Let The River Run
Mitchell - Talk To The Animals
Niamh - Sweet Leilani
Matthew. - Jai Ho!
Smithy - Born Free
MTVN - It Goes Like It Goes
Strictly Jake - Chim Chim Chiree
Rob! - Man Or Muppet
Calderyon - In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening
Daniel. - Song of the South
Tony Montana - Sooner or Later
Cal - The Last Time I Saw Paris
Jake. - Theme from Shaft
Black Dagger - You'll Never Know
Cherie - Que Sera Sera
Liam- - Gigi
Denver - Streets of Philadelphia
Jessica - The Ballad of High Noon
Ammi - You Light Up My Life
parmnion - My Own
MB - The Shadow of Your Smile
AnnieK - Lose Yourself
Babayaro - Let the River Run
There's nothing I love more than thinking I have a pointless answer, like almost everyone else, until Marc submits the last set of answers and copies yours. Prick. Sorry parmnion, but you chose two Oscar-nominated songs that lost in 1938 for both of your answers.
4) Pick a section of an orchestra - brass, woodwind, percussion or strings?
Shaun - Woodwind
Mitchell - Woodwind
Niamh - Strings
Matthew. - Woodwind
Smithy - Brass
MTVN - Percussion
Strictly Jake - Strings
Rob! - Brass
Calderyon - Percussion
Daniel. - Percussion
Tony Montana - Woodwind
Cal - Percussion
Jake. - Strings
Black Dagger - Woodwind
Cherie - Woodwind
Liam- - Woodwind
Denver - Brass
Jessica - Brass
Ammi - Percussion
parmnion - Woodwind
MB - Strings
AnnieK - Percussion
Babayaro - Strings
A lot of you tried to be clever and dodge the question and distract me with a funny-sounding instrument :nono: but I think after some coercing and some censorship we all got there in the end. The most troublesome answer was "Woodwind" with 7pts. Percussion was second with 5pts. Strings scored you 4pts, whilst Brass only scores 3pts.
Name a single that has reached #1 in the UK this year.
Shaun - Blinding Lights
Mitchell - Blinding Lights
Niamh - Before You Go
Matthew. - You'll Never Walk Alone
Smithy - Rockstar
MTVN - No Time To Die
Strictly Jake - Godzilla
Rob! - Toosie Slide
Calderyon - Toosie Slide
Daniel. - Godzilla
Tony Montana - Own It
Cal - Before You Go
Jake. - Roses
Black Dagger - Roses
Cherie - Times Like These
Liam- - Roses
Denver - You'll Never Walk Alone
Jessica - Own It
Ammi - Toosie Slide
parmnion - Roses
MB - Toosie Slide
AnnieK - River
Babayaro - Rockstar
Savage Love, Head & Heart and Rain On Me were available pointless answers. Two songs picked up 3pts here - Roses and Toosie Slide. Own It, Rockstar, Before You Go, Godzilla, You'll Never Walk Alone and Blinding Lights each get just the 1 point.
6) Name a song with a colour in the title
Shaun - "Yellow Halo" by Goldfrapp
Mitchell - "Turning Red" by New Hope Club
Niamh - "Black" by Pearl Jam
Matthew. - "Black and Yellow" by Wiz Khalifa
Smithy - "Black Jesus + Amen Fashion" by Lady Gaga
MTVN - "The Black Hills of Dakota" from Calamity Jane
Strictly Jake - "Blue Moon" by Rogers & Hart
Rob! - "Black and Gold" by Sam Sparro
Calderyon - "Red, Red Wine" by UB40
Daniel. - "Red Flag" by Slipknot
Tony Montana - "Blue Jeans" by Lana Del Rey
Cal - "Mr. Blue Sky" by Electric Light Orchestra
Jake. - "Black Skinhead" by Kanye West
Black Dagger - "Ol' Red" by George Jones
Cherie - "Purple Haze" by The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Liam- - "Men in Black" by Will Smith
Denver - "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"
Jessica - "Green Onions" by Booker T & the MGs
Ammi - "Pink Fields" by Neon Hitch
parmnion - "Back in Black" by AC/DC
MB - "Pink Lemonade" by James Bay
AnnieK - "Black Velvet" by Alannah Myles
Babayaro - "Baby Blue" by King Krule
By god... you all managed it, and with some pretty well known songs in the mix too :clap1:
7) Name an annual awards ceremony that celebrates music in some capacity
Shaun - Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards
Mitchell - MOBO Awards
Niamh - The IRMA Awards
Matthew. - MTV Music Video Awards
Smithy - JOOX Thailand Music Awards
MTVN - Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards
Strictly Jake - MOBO Awards
Rob! - MOBO Awards
Calderyon - Emma Gala (Finnish music awards)
Daniel. - Kerrang! Awards
Tony Montana - The BRIT Awards
Cal - iHeart Radio Awards
Jake. - Academy of Country Music Awards
Black Dagger - Juno Awards
Cherie - BBC Music Awards
Liam- - NAACP Image Awards
Denver - Mnet Asian Music Awards
Jessica - Independent Music Awards
Ammi - Silver Clef Award
parmnion - Scots Trad Music Awards
MB - Zee Cine Awards
AnnieK - Independent Music Awards
Babayaro - Heat Latin Music Awards
Most of us escape unscathed here, but AnnieK and Jessica share a point whilst Mitchell, Rob and Strictly Jake have embarrassed themselves at the MOBOs again.
8) Name a popular music festival in the UK
Shaun - Junction 2
Mitchell - Mighty Hoopla
Niamh - Belsonic
Matthew. - T in the Park
Smithy - East Neuk Festival
MTVN - Beautiful Days
Strictly Jake - Evo Festival
Rob! - Worcester Music Festival
Calderyon - Junction 2
Daniel. - Slamdunk
Tony Montana - Glastonbury
Cal - Y Not
Jake. - Cheltenham
Black Dagger - TRNSMT
Cherie - Belfast Harp Festival
Liam- - Cymanfa Ganu
Denver - Lost Village
Jessica - Celtic Connections
Ammi - Creamfields
parmnion - Edinburgh Jazz Festival
MB - Infest UK
AnnieK - Parklife
Babayaro - Play Fest
The wording of most of these questions meant it was really open to interpretation, so bless some of you for naming major festivals whilst others opened our eyes to some charming little Welsh affairs. Am I annoyed with being the only shared answer? Not at all...
9) Name a member of the 27 Club
Shaun - Mia Zapata
Mitchell - Tomas Lowe
Niamh - Brian Jones
Matthew. - Jade Goody
Smithy - Helmet Kollen
MTVN - Alan Wilson
Strictly Jake - D. Boon
Rob! - Brian Jones
Calderyon - Janis Joplin
Daniel. - Leslie Harvey
Tony Montana - Anton Yelchin
Cal - Jesse Belvin
Jake. - Jimi Hendrix
Black Dagger - Sahara Davenport
Cherie - Dickie Pride
Liam- - Jacob Miller
Denver - Robert Johnson
Jessica - Tyler Skaggs
Ammi - Fredo Santana
parmnion - Kurt Cobain
MB - Gary Thain
AnnieK - Alan Wilson
Babayaro - D. Boon
Sadly a lot of names on the list meant that there were few hiccups here. If you weren't pointless, you only got a point.
10) Name a single released by Stevie Wonder
Shaun - Pops, We Love You (A Tribute to Father)
Mitchell - Keep Our Love Alive
Niamh - I Don't Know Why
Matthew. - My Cherie Amour
Smithy - Stranger on the Shore of Love
MTVN - Signed, Sealed, Delivered... I'm Yours
Strictly Jake - If It's Magic
Rob! - As
Calderyon - I Just Called to Say I Love You
Daniel. - I Don't Know Why
Tony Montana - Faith
Cal - Happy Street
Jake. - Used to Be
Black Dagger - Send One Your Love
Cherie - Lois
Liam- - Boogie On, Reggae Woman
Denver - Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday
Jessica - What Christmas Means to Me
Ammi - Hey Love
parmnion - Living for the City
MB - Outside My Window
AnnieK - As
Babayaro - Sir Duke
Once again, a super open category means just the 4 members scoring a point :omgno:

Sorry for the delay, I keep tinkering with the questions because I think they're either too easy, too hard, or too "overdone" in this game
https://i.imgur.com/8bWUWLU.png
History
1. Name a famous inventor
2. Name someone whose likeness has featured on UK currency since 1900, other than the Queen
3. Name a country that no longer exists under that title (eg. Zaire - I will not accept Zaire as an answer :p)
4. Name a war that has taken place after the end of WW2
5. Name a Russian president other than Vladimir Putin
6. Name a Roman emperor
7. Name a Chinese dynasty
8. Name a famous person who was executed in the United Kingdom
9. Name a dinosaur other than a Tyrannosaurus Rex
10. Name a president of the USA who served for two terms of office (ie. won his election twice)
For the Pointless edition: you can choose Scottish currency for #2 but they must have appeared in general circulation, rather than as a "one-off" promotional thing For #3 the country must have changed name, and does not appear in any present sporting event. For #10, they must have been elected twice but I will allow anyone who did not survive the full second term. For #5 I will allow anyone who was president since 1922.

...’too easy’ Shaun...I’ll send some help for you before it’s too late...
Me: Watched an episode of Pointless today with a question asking who was on the UK banknotes throughout history.
Also me: Didn't know any decent answers so barely paid attention to it.

...I was always wavering the most between Shallow and My Heart Will go on...but then there was always Smithy to consider as well...we knew that he would burn TiBB to the ground if it wasn’t Shallow...the same with Rain on Me with GaGa and Ariana...the fear factor if any other was the top answer was just too, too overwhelming...

Yeah I should have gone for Shallow really with how popular Gaga is on here, same with Rain on Me although I decided against because it only had one week at number 1 whereas Head and Heart has had 5
Fact I have literally never heard of any of the songs that have reached number 1 this year and had to Wikipedia it made me feel pretty old too :worry:
......I think that google can mislead and throw off sync as well when it comes to forum favourites and most popular...

Smithy picking Gaga is so on brand Smithy
...I have to say...as rubbish as I’m doing in both quizzes and as challenging as I’m finding it...it’s a great lead up to combine with the pub quiz coming soon...it’s made me realise how ‘starved’ of quizzes we’ve been and getting into that quiz mindset in thoughts...I haven’t even had ‘proper lessons’ at school for so long, either...so it’s all excellent to be doing this ...it’s like ‘coming home’......well, you know what I mean...

I've received answers so far from Rob!, Nicky91, Mitchell, MTVN, AnnieK, Calderyon, Denver, Strictly Jake, Black Dagger, Matthew, James, MB and Babayaro.
Just requiring answers now from Niamh, Cherie, Cal, Jessica, Liam-, Amy Jade, Jake, Daniel., Smithy, Ammi, parmnion and Tony Montana (and indeed any returnees from Round 1, or new participants :spin2:)
Smithy, Ammi, Cal, Niamh, Liam and Cherie have now sent in some answers, so we've just got 7 left to come in. I assume no one will remind Daniel since they want him to lose :worry:

I've only gathered 12 of the scores into a list so far but there's already a bit of a mess in some of the Top Answers categories. 9 different answers for a former country :D
AnnieK has submitted my favourite answer so far, with her take on the currency question for Pointless  (it's valid btw, but I won't spoil it)
it's monopoly isn't it?

There was a couple of questions in there that had a lot of answers that could be really popular I agonised over the TA Currency one for so long, must have changed my mind 4 or 5 times
Daniel.

Sending later, this is so hard </3
For Top Answers I was torn between two different answers for most questions, so if a single one of the answers I didn't pick beats mine I will be quitting this game in a huff

ffs I just accidentally deleted Cherie's answers after only counting the Pointless ones and not the Top Answers too... could you re-send the same PM Cherie? :worry: I trust you wouldn't just look at the answers I'm about to reveal and copy the best scores :joker:
Edit: uuuuugh I'm having a crisis, I can't find Daniel's Pointless answers either now :worry: could you send those in, too
I'll send in my answers again if it means I can submit a different answer than "Ann Widdecombe" for the famous dinosaurs question

Boris Yeltsin - 12
Dmitry Medvedev - 7
Joseph Stalin - 3
Mikhail Gorbachev - 2

Whilst I work out the totals for Pointless, here's Round 4 if you want to jump ahead and get googling
https://i.imgur.com/jJ60UtM.png
Celebrities
1. Name an ex-husband of Cheryl Tweedy
2. Name a TV show with "Celebrity" in the title other than "Celebrity Big Brother" (or its spinoffs :oh: )
3. Name a winner of Strictly Come Dancing
4. Name someone who is famous for being a "WAG" ('Wife and Girlfriend' of a footballer)
5. Name a famous cat
6. Name someone who has presented the UK daytime TV show 'This Morning'
7. Name a celebrity who died in 2016
8. Name a (present or former) cast member of 'Made in Chelsea'
9. Name a gossip magazine that is, or has been, in circulation in the UK
10. Name a celebrity whose first name is John
For the Pointless edition: most of these questions are pretty open and there shouldn't really be a problem; for Made in Chelsea they must have appeared in at least 2 episodes. For question 2 it must be an english title. Otherwise, this is a lot easier than the other rounds, I think!
...nope, I won’t bother with the googling, I have a winning formula already, I’ll stick with that ...
For Top Answers I was torn between two different answers for most questions, so if a single one of the answers I didn't pick beats mine I will be quitting this game in a huff
Turns out I went with the correct option in all of these scenarios (and worried about my dilemmas for nothing), only to rub out Boris Yeltsin's name for the Russian president question and confidently replace it with Joseph Stalin's :worry:

It only has to be correct for Pointless otherwise people could just put down anything they wanted and benefit from it. You're taking a gamble if you say a wrong answer in the Top Answer bit so if it pays off, well and good
....the way I’m going to think of this is that I have no sheep mindset at all, I’m 100% individuality...

Pointless
21 sets of answers this time, so each incorrect answer is worth 21pts! Let's dive in.
1) Name a famous inventor
Shaun - David Brewster
Rob! - Rudolf Diesel
Nicky91 - Nikola Tesla
Mitchell - Tim Berners-Lee
MTVN - Alessandro Volta
AnnieK - Clement Ader
Calderyon - Nikola Tesla
Denver - Joseph Mortimer Granville
Strictly Jake - Abraham Darby
Matthew. - Sukhvinder Javeed
Babayaro. - Lance Hill
MB. - Anyos Jedlik
Smithy - Elisha Otis
Cal. - Douglas Engelbart
Niamh - Friedrich Soenneken
Ammi - Thomas Edison
Liam- - Tabitha Babbit
Cherie - Samuel Cleland Davidson
Jake - Leonardo da Vinci
Tony Montana - George Stephenson
Jessica. - Hiram Maxim
Black Dagger - Charles Goodyear
Just the one shared answer here in Mr. Tesla.
2) Name someone who has appeared on UK currency since 1900 who isn't the bloody queen
Shaun - Lord Kelvin
Rob! - Nan Shepard
Nicky91 - Winston Churchill
Mitchell - Edward Elgar
MTVN - Jemima Puddleduck
AnnieK - Peter Rabbit
Calderyon - Edward Elgar
Denver - Florence Nightingale
Strictly Jake - Elizabeth Fry
Matthew. - Sir William Arrol
Babayaro. - Matthew Boulton
MB. - Alan Turing
Smithy - Winston Churchill
Cal. - Florence Nightingale
Niamh - Michael Faraday
Ammi - Elizabeth Fry
Liam- - Christopher Wren
Cherie - Samuel Clelan Davidson
Jake - Adam Smith
Tony Montana - Winston Churchill
Jessica. - Elsie Inglis
Black Dagger - Michael Faraday
Churchill was the most popular answer in both games, scoring you an unwanted 2pts. Elgar, Faraday, Fry and Nightingale score 1pt.
3) Name a country that no longer exists under that title, other than Zaire
Shaun - The Khmer Republic
Rob! - Upper Volta
Nicky91 - Burma
Mitchell - Kampuchea
MTVN - Swaziland
AnnieK - Sikkim
Calderyon - USSR
Denver - Upper Volta
Strictly Jake - Dahomey
Matthew. - Prussia
Babayaro. - Ceylon
MB. - Savage Island
Smithy - Dahomey
Cal. - Burma
Niamh - Dahomey
Ammi - Siam
Liam- - Nyasaland
Cherie - Transjordan
Jake - Siam
Tony Montana - Newfoundland
Jessica. - Swaziland
Black Dagger - Mesopotamia
An educational game indeed, since I had no idea Swaziland changed their name in 2018 and I was ready to issue some big fat WRONGs :hehe: It does score a point for being shared, though, as do Siam, Burma and Upper Volta. Dahomey scores 2pts.
4) Name a war that has taken place since the end of WW2
Shaun - Guatemalan Civil War
Rob! - Rhodesian Bush War
Nicky91 - Gulf War
Mitchell - Bosnian Civil War
MTVN - South Sudan Civil War
AnnieK - Yom Kippur War
Calderyon - United States invasion of Grenada
Denver - First Iraqi–Kurdish War (Aylul Revolts)
Strictly Jake - United States invasion of Grenada
Matthew. - Guatemalan Civil War
Babayaro. - Algerian War
MB. - Sand War
Smithy - Cold War
Cal. - Mau Mau Uprising
Niamh - Eritrean War of Independence
Ammi - Vietnam war
Liam- - Cambodian Civil War
Cherie - Falkland War
Jake - Syrian War
Tony Montana - Afghanistan War
Jessica. - Operation Ocean Shield
Black Dagger - Bale revolt
A lot of hand-wringing here on what classes as a war and what doesn't. Technically "Ocean Shield" is an anti-terrorism initiative but it does involve a military organisation (NATO) so it technically might count? Was the Cold War even a war? I don't bloody know any more, so sorry to whoever it was that I got to change their answer for being a peaceful revolution  Just the two shared scores here.
5) Name a Russian president other than Putin
Shaun - Konstantin Chernenko
Rob! - Boris Yeltsin
Nicky91 - Vladimir Lenin
Mitchell - Dmitry Medvedev
MTVN - Viktor Chernomyrdin
AnnieK - Dmitry Medvedev
Calderyon - Leonid Brezhnev
Denver - Boris Yeltsin
Strictly Jake - Dmitry Medvedev
Matthew. - Dmitry Medvedev
Babayaro. - Boris Yeltsin
MB. - Nikolai Shvernik
Smithy - Boris Yeltsin
Cal. - Boris Yeltsin
Niamh - Nikita Khrushchev
Ammi - Mikhail Gorbachev
Liam- - Dmitry Medvedev
Cherie - Boris Yeltsin
Jake - Boris Yeltsin
Tony Montana - Boris Yeltsin
Jessica. - Mikhail Kalinin
Black Dagger - Yuri Andropov
I did point out they didn't have to be a president of modern-day Russia, they could've led the USSR, so I think a lot of you played ultra-safe and gave the round's first big score: Yeltsin costs you 7pts, whilst Medvedev scores you 4pts.
6) Name a Roman emperor
Shaun - Hostilian
Rob! - Otho
Nicky91 - Augustus
Mitchell - Nero
MTVN - Balbinus
AnnieK - Hadrian
Calderyon - Aemilian
Denver - Gordian III
Strictly Jake - Otho
Matthew. - Constantine III
Babayaro. - Constantius II
MB. - Theodosius I
Smithy - Valerian
Cal. - Otho
Niamh - Aemilian
Ammi - Claudius
Liam- - Gordian III
Cherie - Majorian
Jake - Licinius
Tony Montana - Macrinus
Jessica. - Elagabalus
Black Dagger - Justinian
A LOT of options to choose from here so there weren't too many casualties, but I had to make sure some chose the correct empire  Only Otho scores 2pts here, the rest are just 1.
Name a chinese dynasty
Shaun - Western Liao
Rob! - Qin
Nicky91 - Zhou
Mitchell - Tang
MTVN - Sui
AnnieK - Qing
Calderyon - Liao
Denver - Tang
Strictly Jake - Sui
Matthew. - Qing
Babayaro. - Han
MB. - Later Tang
Smithy - Tang
Cal. - Han
Niamh - Sui
Ammi - Xia
Liam- - Xia
Cherie - Tang
Jake - Later Liang
Tony Montana - Qin
Jessica. - Xin
Black Dagger - Song
I have amended some answers because you may have tried to be cheeky and name a period where 2 or more dynasties had "equal rule" so just changed your answer to the prominent dynasty of the time. Tang scores 3, Sui scores 2, whilst Qin, Han, Xia and Qing score 1.
8) Name a famous person executed in the United Kingdom
Shaun - Thomas Highgate
Rob! - Perkin Warbeck
Nicky91 - Lady Jane Grey
Mitchell - Derek Bentley
MTVN - Richard Harding
AnnieK - Ruth Ellis
Calderyon - Guy Fawkes
Denver - Edmund Dudley
Strictly Jake - Robert Hubert
Matthew. - William Joyce
Babayaro. - Mahmood Hussain Mattan
MB. - Bosavern Penlez
Smithy - Charles I
Cal. - Robert Kett
Niamh - Richard Grey
Ammi - William Wallace
Liam- - Sir Francis Throckmorton
Cherie - Gwynne Evans
Jake - Guy Fawkes
Tony Montana - Walter Raleigh
Jessica. - Josef Jakobs
Black Dagger - Mary Ansell
What a lovely and bloody past we have  Just one shared answer, so well done all.
9) Name a dinosaur other than a T-Rex
Shaun - Losillasaurus
Rob! - Ankylosaurus
Nicky91 - Compsognathus
Mitchell - Allosaurus
MTVN - Psittacosaurus
AnnieK - Troodon
Calderyon - Spinosaurus
Denver - Degrootorum
Strictly Jake - Carnotaurus
Matthew. - Megalosaurus
Babayaro. - Pterosaur
MB. - Khaan
Smithy - Stygimoloch
Cal. - Monoclinus
Niamh - Lambeosaurus
Ammi - Velociraptor
Liam- - Embasaurus
Cherie - Suzhousaurus
Jake - Troodon
Tony Montana - Europasaurus
Jessica. - Oryctodromeus
Black Dagger - Allosaurus
Sadly, no one said "Barney" - which would've been amusing for both the cartoonishness of the suggestion, and also because it would've been wrong :(
10) Name a president who served for 2 terms of office
Shaun - William McKinley
Rob! - William McKinley
Nicky91 - Barack Obama
Mitchell - Woodrow Wilson
MTVN - Grover Cleveland
AnnieK - Ulysses S Grant
Calderyon - Andrew Jackson
Denver - Grover Cleveland
Strictly Jake - Grover Cleveland
Matthew. - James Monroe
Babayaro. - George W. Bush
MB. - William McKinley
Smithy - James Monroe
Cal. - Dwight D. Eisenhower
Niamh - Thomas Jefferson
Ammi - George Washington
Liam- - Calvin Coolidge
Cherie - James Madison
Jake - Andrew Jackson
Tony Montana - Barack Obama
Jessica. - Ulysses S. Grant
Black Dagger - Grover Cleveland
I really need to get better at this "confidently name a well-known answer" malarkey. Cleveland scores 3pts, McKinley scores 2pts, whilst Jackson, Monroe and Grant score 1pt.
Scores

...yeah I just read that, that it doesn’t have to be correct...I always thought it did, strangely...I would still have done atrociously, had I gone with Guy Fawkes, though...
Yeah I mean some people are going to answer questions like "name a roman emperor" with Caesar because he's the most famous for being stabbed in the back, et tu Brute?, etc etc, even though some would argue he technically wasn't a correct answer. Most people will name a correct answer because it's the first thing that springs to your head, but often there's a commonly-held wrong answer, the sort of thing QI is good at debunking.

I put that as a disclaimer in my answer but I was hoping people would still say it and they did :hehe:
I was mildly surprised I was the only one to say Charles I tbh... I would've thought a king being beheaded was more "well known" than being one of Henry VIII's wives or that silly gunpowder man
#CancelWilliamMcKinley (and also Jemima Puddleduck, I just don't trust her)

Well, speaking as someone outside of Britain, I never knew a King was beheaded but Guy Fawkes I knew because you hear of the bonfire day you have over there still today and also Henry the 8th and his many wives/wife executing is something I had heard about
