am happy Aljaz is back, also look forward to see him reading his title cards at it takes two
and what was it that i've been reading, strictly going back to more traditional approach to the show, less inclusive due to the recent drama?
the lack of a pairing spoiler, makes me think if production screens the audiences more thoroughly, we'll see soon enough with the week 2 results show if there is a spoiler or not, otherwise we're into a similar series as we had during the covid year of 2020 (also spoiler-free) would be a good idea if BBC finally took care of those leaks, will improve the sunday nights pre-recorded results show, and no you cannot do it all on saturdays, you also have other shows to air, takes up a lot of time to do it all in one night, like with RTL's Lets Dance (they have ad breaks too in which people can win money, the lucky few who are among the fastest voters week by week) those shows last from 20:15 to 23:45 or even midnight

Nick's favourite past contestant being Bill Bailey  yes no one really knew he could dance like the way he did, and also i agree with him saying about Bill wanting to be taken seriously and not as a joke act simply because he's a comedian, and indeed very amazing he ended up winning :flutter:
i hope Nick will be dancing with Nadiya so so much

Bill Bailey was great. He definitely surprised everyone.
from a 3 in week 1, to eventually becoming an sensational dancer and entertainer
and tbh even in a full series instead of a covid reduced one, he also would've won i think

my thoughts on the launch show, on each couple (pre-week 1)
lets start off with the guys
Jamie & Michelle: i am super happy for Michelle not to get Cameron'd, and also with a debut celeb in with a good chance of going far
Tom & Nadiya: not sure what to think of this one yet, Nadiya also isn't the best of teachers/choreographers tbh, what we saw with Matt Goss, the ringer that never was basically, and it basically being her fault choreographing everything wrong instead of trying to make him shine
Wynne & Katya: idk either, he has the best choreographer in Katya, maybe he can be another Ed but idk
JB & Amy: very predictable they give Amy a contender in her comeback series, but pls make it about JB, not yourself, make him shine brightly
Nick & Luba: based on the group dance, i could see he has a good sense of rhythm/musicality, i let myself get surprised here by this one, also am happy they have Jive on week 1, basically the no.1 dance of death for older duffer males on elimination weeks
Chris & Dianne: its nice to try out a blind person on this show, but i cannot think of how this is gonna work at all, he doesn't see where he is, he doesn't see what he does, its nice of Chris to give this show a go, but truthfully i can see him as an early out, i hope he doesn't get sympathy votes, because the more weeks he is in this, the more awkward it'll be, also he can't lift her, that is sooooo ******* dangerous for Dianne
Paul & Karen: poor Karen :( also vindaloo for an american smooth, seriously what can we expect there LMAO, but tbh Tony had a week 1 disaster either and it went upwards from there on for him, so maybe same ''journey'' for Mr Magic Man
Shayne & Nancy: these two have potential! best in the group dance by far i thought
Pete & Jowita: height difference don't mean much as Bobby last year also towered over Dianne and still went on to finish runner up, but idk about his dance potential, the lifts could be spectacular though
------------------------------
Montell & Johannes: they look A-MA-ZING together, TeamMoJo are gonna go far me thinks, best of the female pairings by far
Tasha & Aljaz: great to have Aljaz back, and i can see him going far again too
Sarah & Vito: LOL that she looks older than Toyah but is 10 years younger, won't win but a enjoyable middler for our charming Vito after his win with Ellie
Dr Punam & Gorka: Gorks never has luck on his side  jeez her nose :umm2: and her chin, looks like a witch, could be her halloween week theme (if she makes it that far) without too much makeup needed :laugh2:
Sam & Nikita: likeable girl, think she has potential to go far
Toyah & Neil: what a lovely woman she is, very funny, hoping she can avoid being first out

Without meaning to sound mean here, but how Chris scored a 23, above Shayne, Nick, Dr. Punam, and Pete is a mystery.:umm2:
And I do controversially think that Tasha was massively overscored, she barely moved for chunks of the performance.

Well I finally caught up with this last night. I said a few weeks back that I wasn't keen on this line up...I eat my words, I love this line up. There is something for everyone and I see really good potential in a lot of them. It's going to be a fantastic series.

23-09-2024, 07:20 AM
alright week 1, amazing show
my thoughts
Nick & Luba: at first i was like NICK KNOWLES and Jive, Oh NO but it was surprisingly decent and good fun, well done 6
Sam & Nikita: i thought it looked smooth, although could've had more rise and fall, and more into the storytelling, rather than dancing by numbers, but okay 6
Shayne & Nancy: it was a fun performance, hips were amazing but i agree with Craig this was not a samba, more like a disco salsa, although i did see some attempts at volta's, botafogo's 5
Toyah & Neil: wasted chance of a toyafied tango, shame her nerves got the better of her 1
Tasha & Aljaz: finalist material! superb cha cha, wow 9
JB & Amy: same as Tasha, easy finalist material, it looked so easy 9
Pete & Jowita: as a rock performance it was epic, as a paso it was a Dance Disaster, no spanish lines whatsoever, no fluidity of movement, got on the wrong knee too, it lacked the dramatic traditional paso face expressions or any expression 1
Sarah & Vito: yass, yass, yasss great quickstep, great storytelling 8
Tom & Nadiya: meh, nothing too special, decent tango though 6
Punam & Gorka: more movement than Toyah, Pete for sure but it was also plain bad levels of pedestrian, next 2
Paul & Karen: iconic, and i did recognize some of foxtrot movements but it was not a classic american smooth, but it surely was super iconic 10
Jamie & Michelle: decent but could've been great, perfect song choice too, great chemistry between these two 7
Chris & Dianne: biggest surprise of the evening, and maybe it was good because it was a fun dance, still not sure how he'll perform in more serious and slower dances, and how it'll have to seem if he is leading, while dianne is leading but good performance 7
TeamMoJo: lovely foxtrot, one with potential for sure, wow 9
Wynne & Katya: was a better samba than Shayne's and also more recognizable as a samba, decent volta's, lack of botafogo's here and there, but fun performance 8
Nicky91
23-09-2024, 07:21 AM

Well! Chris McCausland.... watched it three times and more and more impressed each time. I said in my other thread it'd be wrong if he won on pity and/or because he's funny but omg, there's not 1 ounce of that.
I also said if he turned out to be a good dancer then all well and good. He's not just a good dancer, he's a great dancer. Really pleased for him and Dianne. A truly enjoyable performance and he's modest as well. An absolutely definite contender from week 1.

wouldn't go that far already Kate, but you said it, not me
i myself more think he's more the type for the fun feel good performances, but if he can prove me wrong in the ballrooms and in a paso doble, rumba i will take my metaphorical hat off
i also think Jamie is getting too much hate, because he won the christmas special doesn't exactly mean he has loads of dance experience, he still has a lot to learn like everyone else, and a christmas special or a regular series are two completely different things, yes you get a taste of the show, but tbh in a regular series you won't get awarded 8's 9's 10's immediately, and it was also Michelle's own debut with a partner, so yeah i forgive her for any mistakes this first performance, i do see a lot of potential in them, they have a strong dynamic already
i also appreciate Luba way more now than before, but tbh she just had bad luck getting the no hoper duds like Cracknell and Jason Bell in her first two years, last year with Adam was already a massive improvement from her, and now i like how she wants Nick to believe in himself, in trying her hardest to bring that performer out of him
do think Sarah can be quite a competitive middler type of contestant either, she is very funny but also got some decent dance talent as well
Kate!

Jamie isn't a ringer. He has only done the quickstep, he doesn't know all the other dances. But he has so much potential and I'm loving the chemistry with Michelle.

all about the life of the park in this american smooth, its Nick & Luba

hopefully he isn't going out the door this week, its Shayne & Nancy
move over Anton, Aljaz is a new king of ballroom and he is gonna make dancing queen Tasha shine, its Tasha & Aljaz
from swimming goldland in Paris, to Boogie Wonderland, its Tom & Nadiya

I'm going for Jamie and Shayne, and then it's either got to be Chris or Montell.
joeysteele
28-09-2024, 07:29 PM
This will sound odd probably but then I'm prone to the unusual.
He wasn't the best by a long way but I feel Tom warrants more weeks
Plus I think he'll NOT likely have outside voting strong support from the public.
I rather like him so will be giving him my votes tonight.

I already have to question a few things about tonight's leaderboard.
- Wynne tying with Montell on the night.
- Wynne and Chris being above JB, Jamie, and Sam on the night.
- Toyah tying with Dr. Punam on the night.:joker:
- Tasha topping the leaderboard.
I just feel like I'm once again having a possible disconnect from what I think will be the end outcome in this series.

Nicky91
29-09-2024, 07:38 AM
alright my thoughts and scores on week 2
Tom & Nadiya: the chemistry between these two is OFF THE CHARTS, solid cha cha as well 8
Punam & Gorka: personality wise this was amazing, dance content wise this was kinda crap 5
Paul & Karen: ICONIC! even more so than last week 8
Wynne & Katya: truly mesmerizing, enchanting and one for the strictly history books, i mean Strauss music AAAAAHHHHH, that solid viennese waltz content, AAAAH, Yeah Get In Mate! 10
JB & Amy: unfortunately i got reminded of Danny John-Jules sort of similar robotic movement, i see what they were trying to go for, but this was a HUGE no for me 4
Sam & Nikita: undermarked i thought, was a very good fun week 2 standards charleston, and that swivel, delicious 9
Chris & Dianne: as promised to you Kate! i take my metaphorical hat off for him, i was totally blown away and also it seemed like he was leading, well done to Dianne for that! i'm very much impressed and how humble and such a cutie he is  10
Jamie & Michelle: i strongly disagree with Craig and agree with Shirley, in the early weeks you should focus more on getting the fundamentals right, before adding everything else to the performance, and i thought this was one of the better rumba's i've seen on the show technique wise 8
Toyah & Neil: LOL the less said about this, the better :joker: 1
Nick & Luba: i agree with Craig, the potential is there, especially in the ballroom department, such a solid upper half also his lovely smiley face helps selling dances like this also pretty easily for me, 16 hours of training this was great and undermarked slightly i thought, i wonder what could've been if he had a full week of training 7
TeamMoJo: lemme begin positively, this was a gorgeous samba and all that, performance wise though, i thought there was something lacking and idk what, i am nitpicky because i see contender potential here, so yeah not perfect but great and great is still great, right 9
Tasha & Aljaz: lovely oldschool no gimmicky ballroom, whats not to like about this, wow 9
Shayne & Nancy: i was dreading he might turn out to be a disaster, but thankfully it wasn't a disaster, very solid tango with a nice storytelling, was like watching a scene from a movie, that well sold 8
Pete & Jowita: the lifts were the only amazing thing about this unfortunately, there was nothing smooth about this american smooth, very pedestrian, he didn't sell the cowboy theme either that well, i agree with craig more lumberjack than cowboy lol, sorry jowita you know i love you 5
Sarah & Vito: i prefer this one to Ellie's last year, much better build-up in the beginning before the music really kicked in, so much drama, i mean for a comedy actress she should really consider playing roles in drama series/films because she has a talent for that as well, right about the paso, lovely content, lovely showstopper 9
my prediction for the dance off tonight
Pete & Jowita VS Toyah & Neil
and not gonna think about how that one goes down, because could go either way between those two duds
Nicky91
29-09-2024, 07:42 AM
now 5 thoughts about the show itself
1. still very much appreciating the fact Michelle finally has a partner  she's so sexy but personality wise also so cute
2. appreciating Wynne's sort of humour, might not be for everyone though
3. loved Tess her knock knock joke before Chris's performance
4. screw TPTB trying to make me like Pete in his VT this week with his doggo's, it worked for a minute but then i saw him try to perform again so lol
5. this year is soooo competitive

Chris as Daredevil would not be a too bad idea honestly, having him playing a visually impaired superhero
that soundtrack could make a nice tango or paso doble?
Dianne as Elektra would also be refreshing from her usually having the childish themes on movie week
but tbh, i really hope production won't treat Chris as the joke act this week, with some lame child friendly theme
they need to play into his disability the right way
-------
Montell with dreamgirls, boringly predictable but we know sis is gonna slay as beyonce so who cares if it is a boring choice, also a fab theme for Johannes he loves his diva's too so

Previous winner Rose Ayling Ellis is profoundly deaf. Tasha can hear the music, she has a cochlea implant. Plus, she studied commercial dance at uni so the public will not allow her to win. The judges will vote her through every week until the public kick her out at the final like they do with trained dancers every year.

and yes the song Pure Imagination in the newest Wonka is slightly different than in the original and in Tim Burton's
so JB & Amy's likely to be different to Ore & Joanne's, as this one is entirely about Wonka building his chocolate factory empire from scratch, pretty sure Amy will be playing ''Noodle''

Sam definitely having a dance that I'll never forget... In more ways than one.:smug:
And Pete shaking his butt in Craig's face was funny.
Did Shirley score Chris & Wynne higher than Sam, Jamie, Montell, and Pete?:joker:
What planet is she on sometimes.:joker:
Definitely as to Sarah.
Plus I did really like Dr Punam too.
It was a good show
I share your view of Shirley, her comments are often at odds with how she votes.

Well how Wynne and Chris were not in the bottom four of the leaderboard was bizarre to me, and I know that's not all Shirley's fault tbf, but we can all tell why she scored Wynne higher than Sam on the night.
Also I do think that Tasha is getting some bonus points off of the judges, not as severe as Chris & Wynne, but still enough for me to notice.

BEST MOVIE WEEK SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my thoughts and scores
TeamMoJo: this was a solid opener, i agree with the judges, slightly hesitant in one place but all in all, great tango and great dreamgirls performance 8
Toyah & Neil: as a theatre jazz this was AMAZING, that acting work was divine, however as a samba, this was lacklustre and mediocre 5
Chris & Dianne: FAB-U-LOUS! those kicks and flicks were really good, the performance overall was grosses kino, that sense of rhythm from him is off the charts, wow 9
Tasha & Aljaz: lovely Barbie performance, great technical rumba as well 9
Paul & Karen: very enjoyable for me personally, iconic yet again, Mr Magic Man is a legend! 7
Sarah & Vito: very touching tribute to Dame Maggie's HP character, good viennese waltz also although indeed there was rise and fall where you don't want that in this dance 7
Pete & Jowita: his personal best, have nothing more to say 8
JB & Amy: first performance i enjoyed from these two and giving chocolates to the judges made the whole Wonka theme this week from them more wholesome and adorable 8
Sam & Nikita: i agree with Anton actually, yes too strong up front with her legs but she is playing an action hero so she needs that dominant posing, for me one of the very few paso's which was danced not walked too pedestrianly, lovely storytelling too 9
Shayne & Nancy: he is more handsome dressed as Elvis than what he normally looks like :fan: where everything was tight last week, so soft this week, careful Anton, he is king of ballroom potential 8
Wynne & Katya: YASS YASS YASS, dance of the night for me 10
Punam & Gorka: i am a person who has seen many bhangra's before on the german version, and i must say GREAT EFFORT, placement of hands indeed so smooth and lovely executed, a good flow throughout the routine which is necessary although i would've liked more solo bits from her, rather than too many lifts since the main ingredient of bhangra are many placed and well coordinated movements, and there aren't that many lifts in bhangra so i'm marking one or two points down for that, but all in all well done 8
Jamie & Michelle: too much gapping, too much focus on technique either, deffo one who is in danger this week especially when the judges jinxed him saying he is a contender, his weakest performance to date 4
Nicky91
06-10-2024, 08:02 AM
even though Paul went off on the wrong foot and inwards, he at least attempted a cuban break
so yes he is going forward, whereas Toyah threw the technique content in the bin again and went all out theatre jazz (nothing to lose attitude i think after surprisingly surviving the dance off last week vs Tom)
i hope i am wrong that Jamie isn't in danger, because i am wanting Michelle to do well enough in her first year to stay on for few more years with a celebrity, also i am not gonna blame Michelle for this sort of choreo, i mean it is movie week after all, i think she choreographed it recognizable to rocketman, even if at the cost of a great technical quickstep, but they were awarded a higher score by Craig compared to last week so in the end going more for performance this week paid off nicely towards Craig
Nicky91

looking forward to the group dance in the results show, their own take on a sitcom
and Alexis Ffrench, idk him, but apparently he is more a classical soul musician
Ffrench has headlined the Royal Albert Hall, collaborated with fashion houses Miyake and Hugo Boss, played Latitude Festival, worked with pop artist Paloma Faith, and composed several film scores. An advocate for music education, Ffrench is a Governing Body Member and Trustee of the Royal Academy of Music, London, and is the first Artistic Director of the Royal Schools of Music. As a broadcaster, Ffrench is the host of Classical Connections on Apple Music 1

as for last nights dance off
Toyah leaving was the correct result
Paul indeed did his cha cha better second time around, more moving outwards instead of inwards, i like how Paul is steadily working on focus to the dance technique compared to the first two weeks where he just did something other than the actual dance
who knows maybe he has a ballroom this week and we'll see another improvement
Jamie & Michelle back to latin (not confirmed which latin though)

Sam won't be in that much trouble after all i think
those in danger zone this week i think will be: Punam, Jamie, Nick, and maybe Pete too idk if he gets overshadowed by better quickstep performances from Paul and the quickstep elements in Tasha's charleston
i can also see Paul shocking everyone (in a positive way) with his own sort of ''David James moment''
could see TeamMoJo also possibly having a breakthrough moment with their VW
Sarah can go both ways i think, but as long as Vito has made sure of enough rise and fall, she'll do good enough to stay out of the dangerous positions on the table
Shayne is a ''make or break'' week for him, is his Cha Cha gonna be an improvement from his week 1 samba
Wynne HAS to make it as far as icons week, he just has to tbh, for him to be in drag once more to play Adele :fc: he'd be perfect for a rumba to someone like you (with him beginning with an operatic version of that song) i can totally imagine him slaying that

I haven't been too annoyed by Wynne in other performances, because I get that the Show elevates his scores because he has a big personality.

my thoughts and scores
Shayne & Nancy: great opener, fun bowling theme, would've liked more fluidity, more hip actions but good performance 7
Sarah & Vito: harshly undermarked, i recognized a lot of foxtrot in it and it was silky smooth throughout, the footwork yes not perfect but still great i thought 8
Nick & Luba: can understand no swivels bc of his injury and Luba cleverly choreographed it into more of a slapstick version, also not enough creativity umm this was a scene from paddington 2, you can't do anything original, but despite his injuries, GREAT performance 8
Jamie & Michelle: overmarked (judges pet much?) no hip action whatsoever, no chemistry either between these two, and those lifts looked rather lame and predictable 1
Wynne & Katya: too much faffing about at the start as Len would've said, but once the dancing got going it looked good but would've liked more of that, shame 7
Punam & Gorka: dance disaster, flatfooted throughout and not enough variation between the kicks and flicks, not your night, i agree craig 1
Paul & Karen: Magic Man has his revenge after last weeks dance off!!!! how charming he looked in those tails, top hat and cane too, good quickstep content too but yes he can smile some more 8
JB & Amy: sadly not keeping the momentum going from last week, indeed very stilted where in rumba you need to keep that flow going throughout the routine, not much passion or emotion either i'm afraid 2
Chris & Dianne: FAB-U-LOUS, easily his best dance to date 10
TeamMoJo: the gladiator becomes a ballroom princess, never thought we'd be saying that, wow potential to be a contender 9
Sam & Nikita: not Nikita starting off thinking it is a paso doble instead of samba LOL, also Sam is deffo not worse than Punam, but was this good, No 4
Pete & Jowita: Pete Travolta, well i guess it had its effect because this was his best dance to date, not as good quickstep as Paul's but i am a sucker for the traditionals, otherwise it was hella enjoyable, bro 8
Tasha & Aljaz: those on tiktok got sick me thinks LMAO :laugh3: other than that, no comment about the routine 11

I think you and I were watching something different.
I thought Jamie was really good actually.
As for Dr Punam I think she did pretty good overall.
However I have to say the routine looked and in my view was messy.
Gorka at times in my view devises routines which have him going off doing his own thing in the dance, rather than linking with the partner.
However I enjoyed it still.
Nick I have to say again was dire, absolutely dire.

Pete is for example someone who i didn't expect much from pre-week 1
but he has a similar smoothness, relaxedness about him like John Schneider also had on DWTS (more surprising from Pete who doesn't have a performing background whereas John also had his country music background working in his favor) and chemistry wise also kinda similar
Jowita has a similar charm to her as Emma Slater has (i think she would similarly also be a good one for older males)

Shayne appears to be disliked by the public.
I saw the Strictly audience go silent when his name was called out at the start of the Show on Saturday, while the crowd was cheering for everyone else.
I personally don't like Shayne that much myself, but even I'm surprised at the hostility towards him.
