Chill out son. I put the [laugh] emoticon in there for a reason, just being light heated.

I post crap loads and admit it all the time usually pretty much in the same post but that didn't come across as a joke to me especially with the other patronising smile plus I can never tell with you anyway
But one thing I don't post crap about is other people, if you're annoying me on the forum you'll find out

Okay Tom. :laugh2:
Back to ratings. I think the Friday 22:35 show is in danger of hitting 2 million. CBB6 barely passed it and this series is down on that, so there could be some low figures for that.
CBB got 2.4m and 2.5m for Friday eviction ratings ... hardly just hitting 2m. Those are quite comfortable and even in line with what BB9 evictions got

Good for last night and nice to see an increase
The increase is probably down to word of mouth from this good series, if the quality keeps up then i'm sure the ratings will too
I'm hoping it will push on for 3million next week

I remember reading the ratings on the Guardian website which only said 2.2m; I don't think they included C4+1, so that's where the slight confusion comes from.
But 2.4/2.5m is still not much over.
And also they were NOT in line with BB9 evictions. Lowest BB9 eviction in overnights was 2.5m and they in fact averaged 3.1m (not including the final in that average).
So clearlty there is a difference between a 3.1m average and 2.4/2.5m average. That is NOT "in line". :joker:
They wouldn't look out of place if they were in BB9 though which is what I'm getting at and you cant base an average on two shows. The other eviction interviews did a lot better (although not on a Friday) but theres nothing to suggest they wouldn't have been higher anyway (just not as high)

But you were wrong. You said they were "in line with BB9" when in fact they weren't.
The highest Friday eviction rating in CBB6 (admittedly there were only 2 evictions) matched only the lowest BB9 eviction rating.
There's no point comparing a different day to Fridays because there's different trends for different days.
What you said was not right, and I picked up on that and gave you the stats. That's all.
You're just being pedantic and reading selectively ... you failed to pick up on the additional points surrounding non-Friday evictions and said I was comparing them

You shouldn't be making claims which are unfounded. It's not being pedantic, it's being truthful. There seems to be a lot of bias in your posts, and all I'm doing is countering that by presenting the facts.
I actually did pick up on the points you made about non Friday evictions, but there's no point comparing those to the Friday evictions of BB9 as they're different days.
The non Friday evictions of CBB6 got 3.0m and 3.4m. BB9 got
3.8m for its non Friday eviction. So once again, CBB6 was clearly down from it and NOT "in line".
I just think that it's important, particularly in a ratings thread, to not make false claims and just say the facts as they are. Otherwise you're misleading other people.

No it doesn't stand.
Because you said they were "in line with BB9", which clearly they're not.
They're right to the extreme at the lowest end. 2.5m was CBB6's highest and BB9's lowest. That's the most extreme you can get in an overlapping range.
Therefore your statement was incorrect. It does look pretty much out of place and certainly not "in line" as you were suggesting. :laugh2:

Do you seriously think I'd harp on if I didn't care about BB? I've loved this show from the word go and had never missed an episode until CBB6. It's virtually impossible to find anything positive to say about the travesty BBUK has become now, though. The viewing figures bear this out.
If I didn't like this forum, I wouldn't post here. It reminds me of the old C4 board...full of people who use too must txt spk, but that's no bad thing :dance2::tongue:

I agree about the fact BB has become ridiculous but I think BB10 is shaping up to be a great series. The ratings might be hideous but I don't think the ratings reflect the quality of the series, BB8 and BB9 were awful I'd agree with, but BB10 isn't :(! (imo obviously)

BB10 has got great potential - that's why it's so frustrating not being able to watch most of it and get to know the HMs.
I personally really enjoyed BB9, definitely a huge step up from BB8 because they sorted out their act, and it was like a cult show on a mainstream scale if that makes sense? Although ratings weren't great for BB9 I think they were quite good in general especially as it won its slot on a few occasions ... plus BB9 quite resembled my favourite series, BB6.
Less said about BB8 the better but I agree its sad ratings don't reflect quality. Live feed aside, this has the possibility for being the best one since the BB5-CBB4 era and its sad noone is no longer watching the show. But hopefully they'll continue to creep up and up until it breaks the all important 3m mark. Apparently the producers are looking for a 3m (official) average for it to be recommissioned which I think at this stage is quite feasible ... but only if the quality so far keeps up and it doesn't feel a bit drawn out from weeks 7-12 like BB7 and 8.
Oh I forgot to add this in earlier on which could contribute to rubbish figures. It seems really insignificant though. Basically until last night I never realised that the show just goes off for ad breaks and doesn't give an 'after the break' teaser anymore, and last night I went channel hopping, found something else and forgot to turn back because I had no real incentive to and it could have been a rubbish final part anyway

It'll probably get a bit of coverage tomorrow and then they have a golden opportunity to send more people in/twist for a short term ratings fix that could maybe keep more viewers in the long term
I really think they should just recycle a twist that they know works, something big like Bedsit or Secret Garden and just say its celebrating 10 years of BB. And not a popular idea on here I know but maybe even chuck in an ex housemate along with the recycled twist again for short term boost/more coverage. Maybe if they did the secret garden idea it could be 3 ex housemates who are willing to go back in ...
2.2m for last night, looks like its holding steady around that
Hopefully tonight will be boosted with eviction, Saffia leaving and the whole Cairon stuff ... a lot of BB in todays papers

I phrased it badly, I admit. I stand up and sincerely apologise to anyone that found that comment pathetic.
If I were to rephrase it, I would say:
"I sort of expected that rating, because I thought the Wednesday show was artificially boosted."
Is that good enough for you now? Or do you want another alteration with the phrasing. :laugh2:

It was always likely. All the "rises" we've seen in the past few days have been artificial. Here is the explanation:
Monday- 2.0m . This was dented by about 0.2m due to finishing 8 minutes early.
Tuesday- 2.2m . It was higher than Monday's as it only finished 2 minutes early, so was hardly dented at all. If Monday's show hadn't finished so early, then both would have been nearly equal.
Wednesday- 2.4m. Higher than Tuesday because it followed Embarrasing Bodies which got 3.5m, BB's best lead in for the week.
I fear that it has now stabilised itself to around the low 2's for the 10pm highlights shows.

Theres a fair bit in the papers today though about Saffia, Sree, Cairon etc and tonights eviction so hopefully a lot of people who were willing to give it a go try again tonight and see that its quite good ... and as a result it gets a few more viewers. Tonight will probabaly give us an indication to how many people actually are watching though. Not everyone watches every night, so say 1m who watched on Tuesday might not have watched on Wednesday, and some don't watch the whole thing.
That kind of thing is evident in finale figures, though CBB had more of a loyal than casual audience and we don't know about this one yet but I suppose tonight will give us a good indication how many are watching in total especially with todays papers.

To be honest, I've looked through the papers and I don't think there's that much media coverage.
For sure, there's more coverage than previous days, but it's nothing compared to previous years including last year.
Saffia's exit only made a little bit on the Daily Star front page (admittedly it had a Ronaldo story at the front); but even so, it was a very small section which that tells you everything. Last year, they'd have the whole front page covered by BB for a similar situation.
The figures we're seeing at the moment are unacceptable. Bosses were hoping for a 3.0 million overnight average. I know you said official average, but that's not the case at all. It's the overnight average which they want 3 million for as it's what determines their advertising revenue.
At the moment, it's about nearly a million off that.

Don't agree about the same thing last year getting the whole cover. As far as the public are concerned, football is more important than BB (its always been that way) and the Ronaldo story is big.

President your making it out as if BB9 was more popular mediawise last year? It really wasn't. The launch got more media coverage yeah but it The Sun still confined all the news to a double page spread.
BB9 didn't even get that much coverage, its not much less this year. I actually think its a bit more

I disagree, particularly the bold bit. Media coverage is definitely less than last year.
The Sun aren't doing the center-page spreads they did last year, nor are they running their BB Bitch column from past series. Well actually, they did on day 2 but that was it.
Daily Mirror has basically had nothing. Daily Record has a small article. Daily Star has usual two page spread I think. The NOTW still has it's 4 page BB pull-out though (used to be 16 pages a couple of years).
It's definitely a lot less than last year, which itself was less than the previous year and so on.
And for the record I don't actually buy all these tabloids, I just flick through them at work on a break.

I think people are getting increasingly frustrated over [you know what - I won't mention it] and we're only one week in. As the weeks pass by, I can see the viewing figures falling to unprecedented levels, particularly as the weather is finally starting to pick up.
The producers need to do something startling to halt the slide. But I can't see that happening. Everyone involved, including the HMs, just seem to be going through the motions of fulfilling the contractual obligation now.

These are NOT including +1
1st show- 2.7m
2nd show- 1.9m
Well done to the first show at least, the +1 figure i think will bring the rating to break the 3m barrier, and understandable on the 2nd show, it finished 9 minutes early!
So looks like the 1st show will be the most watched since the launch.
2.7m and 1.9m for last night ... the second show usually adds on about 0.5-0.7m which should bring it into line with regular ratings
Looks like it has definitely found its level now though
EDIT: Never realised they don't include +1, so first show should be pushing 3m and second one a little more too ....

Yep the +1 will bring the 1st show to 3m or more (highest rating since launch)the officials will bring it to about 3.4m and the 2nd show will have it to about 2.1m including +1 but in the officials it will go up drastically because of it finishing 9 mins before so that would have deceased the rating quite a lot.... so the 2nd rating i think will be about 2.7m in the officials.

Oh I get what they've done! Just went back on and they've got the full break down. When I looked they only had it until 11pm (when it went off air) so I expect they just did it for when BB was on air (1.9m) and not the whole slot (1.7m)

Just seen the explanation regarding the slight confusion:
To clarify, 1.7m (11%) is for 10:35-11:10, which is the schedule the Channel 4 website has down.
Initially, I wrote down 1.9m (12%) because that covered 10:35-11:05 which Radio Times had the listings as.
So it rated even worse than first suspected!

The 2nd show did bad, but 1st show did well (for this series anyways) because 2.7m with no +1.
I think the officials are being released on Tues/Weds, so the ratings that are about 2-2.4m will turn into 2.4-2.9m in the officials i think.
The 1st show could end up getting about 3.4-3.5m in the officials, which is quite good.
I think the officials are for launch week (they release them after 2 weeks) so we'll only get Thursday 4th-Sunday 7th

Oh okay well i will predict for the officials:
Launch- 5.5m
Friday 5th- 3.3m
Satuday 6th- 2.5m
Sunday 7th- 2.5m (because of it being late more people would have caught up)

Yes, but the first evictions in recent years tend to do the worst anyway and for 3 years running the first out has been worst rated ever, 4 series' if you include CBB.
Even in BB5 when up against an England match it still got 1.8m I think
I reckon they're in a bit of a dilemma this year. I think slightly more 16-34 year olds are watching this year (figures this year seem to be 0.8-9m this year slightly up on last year) yet the ratings as a whole are down .... and its the 16-34 year olds the advertisers want when it comes to BB so are the other 1m or so irrelevant? Do they recommission it for C4, for E4 or not at all?

Good for the first show when taking into account some of the bad ratings
Also good for the second show considering that during BB8 and BB9 there was bigger drops between the two shows
Hopefully throughout next week the ratings will climb a little furthur
Predicting all time highlights ratings low for tonight after that awful episode .... about 1.7m

Loved the Karly bit (and the Marcus bit before it) but everything else was awful I thought .... MichaelSpears we'll find out tomorrow (hopefully) ratings don't usually come out till the next morning

Everything pretty much inbetween 2-3m. Lowest so far has been 1.9m (unless you count Friday which hasn't added +1) and nothing over 3m except launch.
Series average so far is roughly 2.6m, about 1m down on 3.6m for week 1 during BB9.
To put a positive spin on it its still regularly Channel 4's best rated show, pulls in a large amount of 16-34 year olds and is slightly up with that demographic than last year. But thats just straw clutching and doesn't explain where 1m viewers have gone.

If they didnt then I Wouldnt of watched the last few weeks of BB9 Because when I went on holiday I relied on the newspapers over there to give me the news.
If it wasnt for...
"LUKE EVICTED!" and a Picture of him on the front page, then I would of never of known he left until I got back.
So Newspapers did play a huge part in BB Last year and BB9 was always on front pages.
Even when it finished I was coming back from school and the newspaper had "REX BEDS STEPH!" On the page..
So it was really popular

Good boune back for ratings. We cant get our expectations too high. This is good for BB right now. And again, the buzz from the row, and LF cut had a lot to do with it. ANd also the time it plays as well. WHy cant they schedule the show around 8 and 9?
Anyways, I am encouraged, please keep it above 2.2 millions and I will aways be happy :spin2:

The Saturday ratings were horrendus, but am i right in saying that NO show on Saturday got over 5.5m?? Everything was in the 2-4m zone on Saturday, Mumbai Calling got 2.17m on ITV which is dreadful as well.
But it was a good bounce back on Sunday with almost 700,000 being added from the day before. Last night got higher than Tuesday and Thursday, and normally Sundays do worse.

I suppose 712,000 (37%) 16-34's isn't bad out of the total audience but its way off the mark of previous series when the 16-24 rating was double that
Not very good at all and its only week 3. Surely if things don't dramatically change then we could see ratings of under 1.5 million consistantally in just a few weeks and maybe by week 9 ratings near to the 1million mark
Its amazing how far Big Brother has feel not just from a few years ago but actually just from last year
Spike
16-06-2009, 10:22 AM
Also I have noticed that last nights show was longer and I think had an extra break. Next week most 10pm episodes will be 75minutes long so this extra advert is C4's way of making up for the lack of viewers
Not only has BB hit rock bottom not even breaking 2m ... but Little Brother is doing much much much worse than expected!!!!!
Last year the ratings were between 0.3 and 0.4m once they got shot of Zezi, last night got 0.17m!!! Thats not much more than what streaming used to get. Putting it into perspective Friends repeats get 0.3m-0.6m and BBLB is sandwiched inbetween 2 episodes of Friends. Even a repeat of Shameless at 10pm beat BBLB!

I'm not surprised at the poor BBLB ratings because it is does depend a lot of the main show popularity but I do enjoy BBLB the most I have since BB7
I just can't make sense of the bad ratings for BB10, I can see why some factors may have contributed to a few less viewers but I don't see why around 1.5million viewers have switched off since last year

I think the scheduling has been good apart from that 11pm episode, but maybe the 9pm slot would have been best
I thought the launch night was quite weak, probably the third worst since the live launches started but would that really mean that out of the 5million that watched 2-3million gave up on the show
I think the live feed is maybe the issue because without it there is less press attention meaning less people wanting to watch the show.
By the scheduling I meant what it was up against on the Sunday and how long it went on for and the switching between 9pm and 10pm which affect it to a lesser extent.
The launch twist seemed good on paper but I think most viewers seen through it as basically who is up for eviction because of some crap tasks and it just had BB8 written allover it ... and the crowd was rubbish so there was no atmosphere, and there was no real shock factor in the housemates either. Then the press were quite negative about it the following day.
I don't think its fair to say 2-3m have given up, I mean BB9 dropped its audience from launch but the final was only 0.5m down so it didn't lose that much ... I'm not saying they haven't given up its just guess work at this stage
Live feed is obviously an issue but I don't think it accounts for the 1.5m they've lost in a year esp as last year there wasn't so much media coverage anyway and the ratings for the live feed were at an all time low .....

Do you think the ratings could be down due to the fact that every episode is on at 10pm as in previous years it has been at 9pm and 10pm as if your up very early like me at 5am its on too late for me to watch.. Also if you Sky + it or Virgin+ it then it doesnt count towards to viewing figure and everyone I know tapes it on Sky+ and watches it the next day. Will BB be cancelled after this series then??

The television landscape has changed so much in recent years.
Forget about BB1. But 10pm for the next 5 series was a decent time in those days. The multichannel environment was very small and channels used to get big ratings at this time.
Graham Norton of all people was getting close to 4 million viewers for his chat show on Channel 4 in a late 10:30 time slot. Nowadays, he can barely make that mark with his primetime show on BBC1.
The point I'm getting at is that 10pm is not a good time slot for any show, particularly one which is regarded as the flagship programme of a broadcaster. It should be given the 9pm slot like the last few years where it will see a boost.
A 10pm start until 11:05pm is unreasonable. Don't forget also, that back in those days it would finish at 10:30pm which is fair. 11:05pm is very bad for most people.
The other poster made a fine point, which was a valid reason for the lower ratings. It would rate better at 9pm. Sunday's ratings were higher than last night's because it was on at 9pm. Typically, Sunday is one of the worst days. It just shows the effect of having it at 9pm.
But BB9, in a similar TV environment to today, had a similar structure to this year and about one million viewers have been lost in a year so I think it is an excuse. I'm just saying that the 10pm slot isn't necessarily a problem especially with the earlier ones having the slot. But 9pm is undoubtedly better especially with todays audience.
I think BB9 actually rated really well, its just that because its BB, there is the expectation of what it used to get. But nothing gets the ratings it did in 2002 and BB suffered a similar drop between 2002 and 2008 to Eastenders (about 40%). BB9 won its slot a few times especially towards the end and was head and shoulders above most Channel 4 stuff. Even with the awful ratings we have now its still Channel 4's best rated show, its still top on most days, if not only beaten by one thing (like last night). But the gap is much much narrower if it is top.

Most of BB9's shows were at 9pm. I think it was only Monday and then Wednesday from mid-series which were on at 10pm.
I do agree that those ratings were higher (around 3 million viewers). But having so many shows at 9pm might have helped boost the pool of people watching the show, hence the relatively good 10pm ratings.
Nevertheless, obviously this year's ratings are atrocious. I'm not making any excuse for that.

Agreed for the most part.
The difference between EE and BB is that EE has lost its audience gradually since 2002. BB has seen a big decline from 2007-2009, losing roughly 50% of its audience. Prior to that, BB only varied between 4.5-5m between 2003-2006 (four years in a row).

But between 2002 and 2008 they still lost a similar percentage of viewers and maybe if it was broke up into series' it might have had a similar drop? Or if BB followed a 4 day a week format all year round for that period? All hypothetical but its possible. If you look at time on air BB and Eastenders per year is pretty much the same, EE gets about 100 hours on air per year which is pretty much what BB gets too. BB9 could still be justified ... its this year the problems have arrived and evidently it was killed stone dead on launch night if it almost lost 50% overnight.

Audience Appreciation ... though no idea why its called AI
Basically those with BARB boxes rate the shows out of 100 then an average score is found. Anything 80 is supposed to be seen as really good, about 70 acceptable etc. They aren't always publicly released but channels take them into account when renewing a show. But obviously, the lower the ratings ... the more cult a show is so you only tune in if you REALLY want to watch it.
Oh and some official figures
Launch- 5.5m (up 0.4m)
Friday 5th- 3.3m (up 0.3m)
Saturday 6th- 2.5m (up 0.3m)
Sunday 7th- 2.2m (up 0.3m)
Official average- 3.4m, down on 4.2m for the equivalent 2008 shows.

So sophie's eviction got 78. It says in the article it's the highest since 2006.
Does that mean that viewers are enjoying BB10 more than BB8 and BB9?
Its hard to say really. If you just look at the raw figures then yes, they are,
but there is an argument that the lower the audience the more those who watch it enjoy it which sounds pretty plausible ... though the only real criticism of this year that I've picked up is the live feed, everything else seems to be quite positive and more seem to be enjoying it than the last few years (though personally I preferred BB9).

But it was only bumped up by the launch ... nothing else was over 3.4 ... on average about 0.3m get added on so roughly that will be added on to the overnight average so will be about 2.7m
It could still be good enough for a recommission, it would be about 3m as well as better, cheaper and more profitable than most of the other stuff they show. It will just have more of a cult audience than a mainstream one and take a much much more low key and less central role like this years is

Theres 2 positives to the ratings:
1. The AI is higher generally than BB9s meaning that BB10 is generally more liked so far than BB9.
2. The ratings have been stable and consistant all the way through (instead of the launch and 1st HL show which had higher ratings).

Yes...... but at what cost?
The repercussions of this will be evident next week. There'll be viewers out there that'll skip the highlights portion entirely, tune into the eviction show for the first 5 mins then switch off. Especially after that diabolical interview.

It really does seem like we've hit the core audience; if the evictions can't improve significantly on the whole week then it just shows hardly anyone other than the 2m who watch the highlights are watching, and those who are watching are watching every night as the figure has been literally the same all week which is unusual for BB. The final might not even break 3m.

It would have been significantly lower without 10 Cats between the two shows, I think. I can't believe C4 are just sitting back as BB dies

Their little tactic didn't work either, as soon as the announcement had been on viewers switched back off again. It went from 2.3m at the announcement to 1.5m by the end of the interview.
I'm really hoping what I read about Channel 4 pushing BB into the ground for funds is true. Apparently so they can get more funding from the license fee, there is a theory that they're making BB no longer profitable on purpose so they can say they have no huge show to get money from ... then they can try and relaunch it once they've managed to get money. Dunno if its true, but if it is then its a huge risk and hopefully it'll pay off especially if it works and they come back next year and pull out all the stops.
Weekend ...
Friday 1- 2.4m
Friday 2- 2.2m
Saturday- 1.6m
Sunday- 2.3m
Last nights well deserved (can't believe I'm actually saying 2.3m is good) ... hopefully a sign of things to come if its an increase

Yesterday shocked me actually, it got 2.354m so it was so close to 2.4m and its weird that a Sunday show would do the same as the first Friday show.
The positive is that its the highest rated Sunday episode (1st got 1.9m, last week got 2.2m this week 2.3m). Also apart from the eviction shows, 2.3m is the highest rating since the 1st Wednesday show of the series.
But very poor when comparing to last year.

Awww what about the yon 1.4million or so on sturdays highlights. I was like aww ya pack of wankers lol. The fans are the ones killin big brother. i think its cuz most people TAPE it and watch it after, wile there on a night out, which doesnt count as a rating on the time its been played. either that or people jus stoped watching. either way its not going well, I like big brother but i feel its definty going to be cancleed after this one, god damnit fans lol. if i was in there id be going to the camera and sayin '' watch this or il like....pull of in front of the cams durin diner time '' lol kidding

The weird thing is that loads of people are saying how great the highlights show have been recently, but the ratings aren't really going up.
People just won't give the show a chance anymore.
Their loss I suppose.

I thought it would of got more than 2million to be honest, shame because the series is shaping up to be a good one. Guess the LF protesters are doing as they said and switching off in there droves.

What is it with the ratings now,i know its not being watched by many but still gets more than every football stadium in England every Saturday gets.To me,being a BB fan,im appauled if c4 pull the show.Logic is simple...more fans per night than 1 days football attendances.

1.9m for last night..... OUCH

24-06-2009, 09:15 AM
Not very good again. I'm just hoping the series can keep around 2million for its run because in August the show could be on its way to nearer the 1million mark
*mazedsalv**
24-06-2009, 09:26 AM
However it did finish 8 minutes early and started about 3 minutes late, so that would have dragged down the ratings a bit.
If it ended 8 minutes early then it will end up about 2.6m with official figures. The eviction interviews last year always took a huge leap
New officials out later on

Official Ratings:
Monday 8th- 2.4m (+0.4m)
Tuesday 9th- 2.5m (+0.4m)
Wednesday 10th- 2.7m (+0.5m)
Thursday 11th- 2.4m (+0.3m)
Friday 12th Highlights- 3m (+0.2m)
Friday 12th Interview- 2.5m (+0.6m) << least watched eviction ever
Saturday 13th- 1.8m (+0.2m)
Sunday 14th- 2.3m (+0.1m)
Official average- 2.7m. This time last year was 3.7m.
Even though the ratings are **** I still wouldn't rule out a recommission. Top 10 Channel 4 (without +1 shows) for last week. 7 out of 10 being BB. At this stage it could be only the Saturday highlights at risk, they didn't even make the top 30
1 EMBARRASSING BODIES (WED 2101) 3.66
2 BIG BROTHER (FRI 2100) 2.90
3 8 OUT OF 10 CATS (FRI 2201) 2.64
4 BIG BROTHER (WED 2204) 2.44
5 BIG BROTHER (TUE 2203) 2.27
6 BIG BROTHER (SUN 2100) 2.18
7 BIG BROTHER (THU 2203) 2.18
8 BIG BROTHER (MON 2203) 2.16
9 ALAN CARR: CHATTY MAN (SUN 2202) 2.15
10 BIG BROTHER (FRI 2236) 2.14
Its just E4 it isn't doing well for. The second BBBM got 0.5m, the only BB related show in the top 10, with BB not even making the E4+1 top 10 at all
*mazedsalv**

Looking at the officials, it does look as though that many more people are watching it on demand or Sky + the show.
Weds 10th show adding 500,000 is big for a Weds show, normally officials add on about 200-300,000, and 600,000 was added onto the 2nd eviction show, which is quite impressive.
Well at least its good to see the show hitting 3m for the 2nd time (exclusing the launch).
But its a whole million down on last years official average so far.
Spike
24-06-2009, 08:06 PM
At least there are still some positives like the increase in the official ratings. The show is still doing well compared to other C4 shows and this one positive is a lot more important that a lot of the negatives because as long as it continues to do better than other C4 shows they Big Brother is safe

I'm usually one to slate the ratings but this is just silly. Most of us were expecting no more than 1.3m, yet it smashes those expectations and it is still really awful?! No, the figures are not fantastic at all but they are much better than we expected.

I say it again "WHATS WRONG WITH 2MILLION VIEWERS!!!!" equate that to something like how many people attend English football stadiums on a Saturday(our national sport).......the original reality programme still outnumbers any Premiership football fans and all the lower divisions. Now 2m even 1m is a helluva lot of public faces in front of the box
Spike
25-06-2009, 03:38 PM
The second show did quite well imo, not too far off 2million and probably over it in the officials is very good for the 11pm slot
The Big Brother special shows seem to work better in the 9pm then 11pm slots rather than the 8pm then 10pm slots

I get what you mean, but just 3 years ago, the show was hitting 6 million and the finale got 8.2m, thats a huge drop. 2 years ago we had Charley's eviction hitting 6m, its not about the ratings overall, i think its the comparison to last year where its lost 50% of its audience that is worrying everybody. And we are in week 3, by Week 7 people will get fed up, and by the final week, i dont even want to think about it.

But im more worried about the 1st show because thats poor for 9pm.
Tbh the 2nd show held up well for 11pm, look at the share, it got 15% of the share (BB8 was averaging about 16-18% shares) so tecnically speaking, the second show didnt do bad at all.
Its the 9pm share of 10% thats more dissapointing.

What's wrong with 2 million viewers is that BB needs an average of at least 3 million to be viable, according to Phil Edgar-Jones.

Tonight's rating will be interesting, the first show goes up against a special Michael Jackson show on ITV1 which will surely rate brilliantly.

I don't think they can expect a large amount of viewers anymore when they don't have a decent amount advertisement before-hand to make the viewers want to watch the show, as well as them not giving the viewers what they want. I was never into the whole "live-feed" rant. But it seems to have pushed many viewers away.

The embarassing this is that it wa sbeat by a Top Gear repeat, thats something we will never hear the end of.... C4 have driven viewers away, its close to impossible to revive it into 3m figures now.
Its a Saturday.... ohh how i dread for BB , i cant even begin to think how low it will go down tonight.... i actually wouldnt be suprised if it gets below 1m. I just wont C4 to suffer and get sacked. I have no respect left for them at all, i would rather watch BB on Living TV or BBC4, thats how bad C4 is.

I predict a series average of 1.8m viewers, now that we are several weeks into the show and I have some background knowledge on it. With the viewing figures this low though, I wouldn't be surprised to see BB on E4 next year.
Big Brother is dead to most people but I still love the show and I don't particularly care about how it does in the ratings, so let's hope that we can have an entertaining summer and we will see where it goes from there.

As long as i can watch it i don`t care about the ratings.I still think lack of lf has a lot to do with it because without it both the media and the public don`t have much to talk about. Although the hl shows on the whole are good they don`t give a true view on the house mates and what goes on in the house. Well thats just my opinion anyway.

Yes but the ratings have been low and have been the same since before MJ died. On Saturday there wasnt **** loads of memorial stuff dedictaed to MJ, all the other programmes in the 9pm slot on Sat beat BB.
Weekend Roundup (including C4+1):
Friday 9pm – 2.1m (10%)
Friday 10:35pm – 1.7m (11%)
Saturday – 1.2m (6%) (excluding +1)
Sunday – 1.9m
OUCH!!!! Saturday night it came last in its slot.

Its obvious now that the show will be hitting around 2million in the overnights every night now but that could go way down as early as this week when we have the supposed heat wave

Awful yet again but in a few weeks time that is around the figure I am expecting for the majority of the highlight shows.
I'm guessing last nights show would have been behind Coach Trip, Come Dine With Me, The Simpsons and possibly Hollyoaks on C4

I predicted the viewing figures would go sub-1.5m before BB10 began...and it certainly looks as though that's about to happen. It was so obvious the show would die on its arse without the live feed - and this is proving to be the case, as the series itself is apparently pretty good.

Hi guys,
This may seem like a dumb question but here it goes:
I regularly watch BB 5 or 10 minutes behind real time on sky plus (mainly so I can skip the ads). Does this therefore not count as an official viewing figure?

If you don't have a BARB ratings box then your viewing wont get counted anyway as only a few thousand televisions are measured to calculate television ratings
but if you do have this box then watching this way will be included in the official ratings but not the overnights

Big Brother is dead now, end of story. I hope that this is the last one in the UK because I am getting put off the show now due to all of the negativity and bad ratings of the show. I will only be watching the show on some nights from now on because I'm not particularly bothered about it anymore.

I think it's a dreadful shame as this year is a good one.
Cast your mind back to Big Brother 4 or Big Brother 8.

Are we going to say "poor" for every rating that comes in?
No, but seriously: it's going to stay around the 2m mark for the whole series.
We all recognise it's poor compared to other years.
But for this series, that's a good rating! And does it even have C4+1 people in it?
Looking at the positives! :dance2:

tbh those ratings are good for BB10 standards, also it doesnt include +1.
Im in shock that the 2nd show kept all of the 1st shows audience, which must mean that people wanted to see what Sree had to say.
Its odd that there was a rise of share % as well for the 2nd show, and it was also the 1st time that the 2nd show equalled or was higher than the 1st since Jen's eviction in BB9. 13.3% i think is the highest % since launch (I think :conf2:)
Its also the most watched eviction of BB10, the previous mostw atched was Cairon's 2.0m, so last night was 300,000 up on that.

i agree i thort it was good entertainment last night it always takes 3-4weeks til the show gets good and im enjoying it like sophie on the live feed last night was well funny
The ratings might start to improve i hope DOES any1 think it wil get 3millon viewers agen in any show? and how many viewers do you think the final wil have?? big brother is still a decent show people just don't give it a chance because it is the 10th series and most shows would be cancelled by now but it is still entertaining!:D

Last night- 1.4m WITHOUT +1
It looks so poor but its the best not +1 Saturday rating since Week 1, the last 3 Saturday ratings were 1.2m without +1, so an increase of 200,000.

Weekend Ratings INCLUDING +1, i got this from C4 Sales:
Friday 9pm – 2.4m (12%)
Friday 10:35pm – 2.4m (14%)
Saturday – 1.7m (9%)
Sunday – 2.1m
14% share for Friday show is very impressive.
Spike
06-07-2009, 10:03 AM
Those weekend ratings don't seem too bad by BB10 standards, the Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows are all up on last weeks ratings I think

1.9m.... dissapointing even though its over 300,000 up on last week and anyways all Monday shows apart from last week have been getting 1.9m or 2.0m anyway so its consistant.
Hoping tonight can get 2.3m+ as the forums have been packed from the nominations and punishments.
Good news so far is that Saturday beat last weeks Saturday, Sunday beat last weeks Sunday and Monday beat last weeks Monday, so far this weeks been rating higher than last weeks episodes.
Great thing about this series is it started so low the only place it can really go is up.

Suprised by last nights ratings, it was the highest Tuesday since Week 1 despite being up aggainst Torchwood which got in the mid 5 millions.
It got 2.14m so very close to 2.2m.
Its on at 9pm again tonight as Ugly Betty is on at 10pm.

09-07-2009, 09:11 AM
Last night- 2.4m. 280,000 viewers up on last Weds show.
Im pretty suprised as that as it was up aggainst Torchwood again... it proves that it should be on at 9pm.
Out of the past 10 shows, 9 of them have increased from the week before.

Predictions including +1
Thursday- 2.2m (because of 10pm slot)
Friday (1)- 2.3m
Friday(2)- 2.2m
Saturday- 1.5m
Sunday- 2.7m (if its advertised, as Nikki is going in for the beginning of the bday celebration)
Spike

2.1million last night, again upon last week
Not bad considering the technical problems
What was last nights (bunnygate) ratings?
*mazedsalv**
10-07-2009, 12:11 PM
2.1m.
Looks bad but it was on at 10pm (its clear that the 9pm slot does much better) and the weird techincal difficulties with the repetition made people turn off, well it made my friends turn off, when they saw the unicyle thing again they were like "WTF" lol. Also it finished 5 mins late.
Another good thing is that last week got 1.8m, so its 300,000 up on last week. Every single HL show this week has been up on last week's... so techincally speaking we should be getting 2.5m+ for the eviction as this week is about 200-300,000 up on last week on average.
It was C4 most watched show by nearly 300,000 and came 2nd in its slot instead of the usual 3rd it comes at 10pm.

Yep the officials add 4OD and +1, thats why the officials are sometimes 300-400,000 up on the overnights. Not sure of the C4 and E4 on the next day are included. But when looking at the officials it doesnt look that bad. Sophia's eviction got 3m, not too bad at all. The second week (Cairons eviction week) was quite high in term of ratings.

Remember its not including +1.
2.1m is good when up aggainst Torchwood finale, and the 2.2m is good for the 2nd show (only 100,000 down on last weeks C4 only rating) 2nd show had almost a 14% share which is great.
Will be on par with last week when +1 is added i think.
I think 2.3m and 2.3m again.
Also the 2nd show when looking at the 15 mins breakdown got over 2.4m on C4 only at 10:45pm which is quite a good peak nowadays.... i think it was the peak. It had a share of 15.2% which is very big!!! Peak be over 16% when +1 comes in.

This whole sorry escapade is due to the fact that, for the very first time in the history of Big Brother since the summer of 2000, this series has not been covered by the red top papers. Newspapers like The Sun and The Mirror used to publish full length reports and considerations every day on the progrees of each series. This year they aren't.
It's incredible how much power the media have these days. In fact, I would esimate that The Sun in particular has the power to choose the winningi party of each General Election, and played a big part in having Labour win office in 1997.
True or false?
