The Arctic Monkeys have scored their fourth successive UK album chart number one with Suck It And See.

The indie rockers knocked Lady GaGa's worldwide best-seller Born This Way from pole position to become only the second band in history to debut atop the rankings four times in a row.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "With the Arctic Monkeys cementing their place in the history books so soon after Adele's phenomenal run at Official Albums Chart number one, British talent is clearly in very good health indeed."

Keane were first to win four consecutive chart-topping records between 2005 and 2010, while George Michael and Boyzone equal the feat when compilation discs are taken into account.

Elsewhere, 11-year-old America's Got Talent star Jackie Evancho lands at four with debut album Dream With Me, as the Glee cast return to the Top 10 with their sixth soundtrack LP, a new entry at six.

Louis Walsh's latest girlband Wonderland - made up of former X Factor contestants - also manage a respectable debut with their self-titled album at eight, landing just a few spots above folk-punk singer Frank Turner's newest release England Keep My Bones at 12.

By contrast, The Pierces and Aloe Blacc are ejected from the Top 10 after slipping nine and seven places respectively with You & I and Good Things, this Sunday's 13 and 15.

Finally, Iron Maiden compilation From Fear To Eternity and All Time Low's Dirty Work snag the final spots in the top 20 on their first week of release, while Nicole Scherzinger sees her debut solo album Killer Love ascend 13 places to 22 following her appointment to the X Factor USA panel.

The Top 10 in full:

1. (-) Arctic Monkeys: 'Suck It And See'
2. (2) Adele: '21'
3. (1) Lady GaGa: 'Born This Way'
4. (-) Jackie Evancho: 'Dream With Me'
5. (3) Adele: '19'
6. (-) Glee Cast: 'Glee The Music - Vol 6'
7. (6) Seasick Steve: 'You Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks'
8. (-) Wonderland: 'Wonderland'
9. (5) Jessie J: 'Who You Are'
10. (7) Bruno Mars: 'Doo Wops & Hooligans'

Arctic Monkeys have revealed that they plan to take a few years' break from recording before they start their next album.

The band admitted that they need time off from recording so they can find themselves some new inspiration as their lives have changed so dramatically since their rise to fame and success, reports The Sun.

Frontman Alex Turner explained: "It's hard to do the old chip shop rock 'n' roll. After you've done it once, you don't sort of hang around that many chippies anymore. I think it's natural, I couldn't ever write about my surroundings in the same way as I did back then."

He added: "I don't really write on the road anymore. We come up with a few ideas on soundchecks and that but I have written too many terrible lyrics touring around. As yet there is no plan to return to the studio next year, we're keeping our heads down.

"We've always been thinking about the next move. For now we're just focused on the touring."

Arctic Monkeys recently revealed that they are fans of good pop music, including songs by Kylie Minogue.

I reckon thats all ****ery to avoid any misquotes or whatever.....I'll say the same here as with Eminem I think they're 2 different bands..... when they started out they were kids, they wrote about what they did as kids/teens. Suck it and See is a weird one. I bought it the other week... but I only really 'like' it. None of the songs are stand-outs (except Piledriver Waltz, but that was waaaaay better as a solo single for Alex), and it was very safe. Except for the couple of risks they took - Brick by Brick - which were rubbish

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner has revealed that he is eager to start work on their next album.

The singer revealed that he plans to start writing the follow-up to 2011's Suck It And See during the band's North American tour with The Black Keys this spring.

Asked if work has begun on a new record, Turner told Rolling Stone: "A bit. I don't try to write on the road. I might try to this time, just for a change. Usually, I get home and I realise it's bad, so I've not done it in the past.

"We've messed around in sound checks, but I'm not gonna meet a deadline, and it's not like I need to write, though I want a head start for the next time around."

Arctic Monkeys have revealed plans to make a "heavier' new album.

The band's follow-up to 2011's Suck It And See will feature tracks similar to their most recent single 'R U Mine'.

© PA Images

"I think we're going to go the direction of those heavier tunes. We did 'R U Mine', and I think that's where it's going to be at for us for the next record," frontman Alex Turner told Artrocker.

"We feel the strength of the last record is 'Don't Sit Down...', the other songs like that - 'Brick By Brick' - the other side of it is fine, but I don't know how much more of that we can do.

"It would be nice to record in Sheffield, which we haven't done for a while. I was living in New York, and that's where I wrote a lot of those songs, and the fact that me and the other chaps were on either side of a large body of water - I wrote a lot on acoustic guitar in the flat.

"Then we went and applied to it what we thought they needed, which is not really a way that we worked before. Mostly it's the just the four of us hashing it out in a rehearsal space, but those kind of songs were in the minority on the last record due to circumstance really."

Drummer Matt Helders has previously said that the band would be "fake" if they returned to the sound of their first album.

Arctic Monkeys guitarist Jamie Cook is to marry his girlfriend Katie Downes.

The musician proposed to the glamour model earlier this week, according to The Sun.

She said: "I'm so made up – excited and happy."

Cook has been dating Downes since 2006 after they met at a party in Liverpool.

Downes regularly works as a model for The Sun's Page 3, and has also appeared in Nuts, Loaded, Zoo and other magazines.

Arctic Monkeys recently completed their world tour in support of their 2011 record Suck It and See.

The band are expected to record a new album later this year after a short break.

Frontman Alex Turner recently promised a "heavier" album than its predecessor.

Congrats to him :pipe:

Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders has given the strongest hint yet that the band will release their new studio album later this year.

It is two years since Arctic Monkeys released their last effort, 2011s 'Suck It and See', and speaking to NME at the NME Awards in London recently, Helders spoke about the relaxed atmosphere the band have enjoyed while recording in America. Asked what he has been up to recently, the drummer said: "I have been in the desert… with motorcycles. Not with Josh [Homme], no. The band's just been working together, the band working on our own so far, writing and stuff."

He added: "There's no time deadlines or anything like that for release. We're just getting back into it, because it always takes a while to get back into it."

Quizzed on what the album will sound like, Helders replied simply by saying: "2013". Then asked if that meant the album will definitely be out by the end of the year, he added: "Well, we'd be stupid if we made a 2013 album and released it next year."

Matt Helders has previously stated that he felt the band's third album, 'Humbug', was unfairly criticised while frontman Alex Turner has hinted that any new material is likely to be heavier and louder than before, inspired by the success of their 2012 single 'R U Mine?'

Not a fan of AM.

I think their work has over the whole got worse the longer they've been on the go. Absolutely loved the first two albums, thought Humbug was the biggest let down of an album ever. Suck It And See was an improvement then they seemed to change their style more again on AM and I just can't get into it.

I think a few of the songs are decent but that's it. I'll go and see them at TITP and I know I'll enjoy it but I've lost a lot of interest in them. Can't stand Alex Turner anymore either

Shaun

Ego's fine (I love Kanye after all ) but he's essentially a completely different person to when he started out... that speech with the Best Album award was basically like watching a fellow teenager in your English class recite some poetry he's written. It was just cringeworthy.

Iceman
20-02-2014, 10:57 AM
Yeah I still think its part of a persona he's creating...when they showed the backstage interview with him he said they enjoyed themselves and had a great night.

I'm in the minority then. I thought the speech was great. Much better than the usual "OMG, I can't believe it. Thank you so much" rubbish.

Well he could have at least been pleased to receive an award,I think he was trying to come across as 'cool' but failed big time.

He's associated with the BRIT's.. He's happy to perform their songs there & turn up & pick up awards. Such a bizarre superior complex he has, thinking hes better than the BRIT's & everyone else who goes

Yeah his band would have fitted right in with the dormant, lager and fags slough the UK indie scene was in before OK Computer came along. John C. Reilly was a more convincing middle finger with his pastiche Johnny Cash.

My dislike for Alex Turner just increased to be honest.

Keeps trying to put this slick, posh accent that he didn't have what, 2 years ago? Their early lyric "You're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham" springs to mind, think he needs to tell himself that.

Arctic Monkeys music and Alex Turner personally just go downhill constantly IMO.

Arctic Monkeys dominated the NME Awards 2014 this evening (February 26), while One Direction's Harry Styles was named Villain of the Year for the second time in a row.

Alex Turner's band picked up five prizes out of eight nominations at the ceremony at London's Brixton O2 Academy, including Best British Band, Best Live Act and Best Album for AM. Turner himself also won Hero of the Year.

Its been a hell of a year for them so far....

Judging by the way they've released the last 3 albums I reckon they'll release another this year or at least a last shadow puppets album. Still playing AM an awful lot so Im not too fussed either way yet.
