Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn is already available on PS4, PS3, and PC, but it looks like it could be headed elsewhere. Director Naoki Yoshida told Polygon that Square Enix and Microsoft are in talks to bring the MMO to the Xbox One.

One of the reasons Final Fantasy 14 hasn't made its way to the Microsoft console is because of the lack of cross-platform play. In the last few months, Microsoft announced its support for cross-platform play across Xbox One and Windows 10--it's also come out to say that it's ready to connect the Xbox One to the PS4. Yoshida said Microsoft reached out to them about the "cross-platform opportunity," but it's not going to happen just yet.

"When our team reviewed the regulations that are associated with that, we realized that Microsoft may not have the experience or understanding of running an MMORPG as an online game genre just yet," he said. "The Final Fantasy 14 team has fed back to Microsoft that there are certain elements of its regulations that we would have to consider waived. We're waiting on Microsoft's response for that, but we are having discussions."

Yoshida also commented on the PS3, saying that the developer will continue to support the older console "through the 3.x series of patches." He added that fans will be kept up to date if anything changes.

Final Fantasy 14's latest expansion, Heavensward, received a score of 9 in GameSpot's review. Critic Pete Davison said, "While new players--or those who never beat A Realm Reborn's complete story--may feel aggravated at being locked-out of the expansion until they catch up, there's little denying that Final Fantasy XIV as a whole offers astonishing value for those willing to immerse themselves, and it will only continue to grow and expand over time."

According to the forums, 3.4 will be adding a new Feast map, as well as an new area at the Wolves Den Pier where players will be able to duel each other.

3.4 is apparently bringing duels to the game, however, unlike WoW, duels will only be allowed in a specific area. Also, as for The Feast, an extra map is due to be added as well as a spectator mode. 3.5 will be bringing the new exploratory mission, expect it to be pretty different from Diadem.

Also, Xbox One negotiations are still on going, Yoshi-P will be meeting with Xbox One people again to discuss the details of cross platform play.

Recast Time Reset Upon Wipe
When challenging raids and trials, timers will now be reset upon the party being wiped out. However, if we find instances of this being abused in any way to take advantage of a battle, then we may disable this feature.

Auto-attack System Changes
Currently when playing as a melee DPS, auto-attacks are executed while standing within 3m and facing within 90 degrees of your target. Since it’s easy for gaps to develop in DPS values because of this, we will be changing the way this functions so that auto-attack are executed for the range requirement only. The angle requirement will be removed and you will be able to execute auto-attacks regardless of where you’re facing.

Changes to Face Targeting System
The face target feature will become inaccessible while moving. This is in order to remove difference between different platforms. For casters, if the enemy moves your character will face the direction of the target’s current position. However, in situations where you need to face away from the target, players will not be able to simply turn around due to the auto-attack changes, therefore, you would either need to sheathe your weapon, or cancel targeting.

Certain Trials will be added to the Raid Finder
The Minstrel's Ballad: Thordan's Reign will be added to the raid finder.

Addition of a Countdown Feature
There are players who use macros to count down before fights, but we are introducing an actual feature for this. You’ll be able to set it up to a maximum of 30 seconds and below 5 seconds each second thereafter will be shown. To make sure this does not interrupt anything for those using macros, it will not be shown in the chat log.

Indications are that Ala Mihgo is crossed via a wall in The Black Shroud, which will be shown in Patch 3.5. Yoshi joked that Dragoon Jump won't work to scale the wall, but that The Warrior of Light has a lot of practice falling off of things.
Ala Mihgo will not be just deserts and wasteland. Forests are also part of it.
All areas of 4.0 will be accessible by flying mounts, but there was an indication that it will again by quest-based like in 3.0. At groans from the audience, Yoshi said it will be easier than Moogle Quests.
That's all the information for now from this keynote. More information will be released in other Fan Fests elsewhere, Live Letters, and so forth. "This is just the start." Yoshi teases he wants to say more everytime the audience cheers, but then he'd be dead and Stormblood wouldn't come out.
Two final announcements:
1) Changes to Windows version Minimum Specs requirements. Current minimum specs are geared towards components you can't even buy anymore. So, for the best gaming experience possible, they've decided to raise their minimum specs. "If possible, maybe upgrade to 64-bit OS" but they will still support 32-bit. They just suggest 64-bit will be best gaming experience.
2) End of PlayStation 3 support. This got the second biggest cheers. They've been examining numbers and have seen a large migration of PS3 to PS4 so they have decided it is the right time to end PS3 support. To show appreciation to their PS3 fans that helped them get to where they are now, there will be a special FREE PS3 to PS4 upgrade campaign.

It's definately worth it, they're always adding new ways to catch up, and even low level content (Deep Dungeon is a really fast way to level), there's a new update out on Tuesday too, so the game is gonna be super busy. The game is offline tommorow though xD

You should join either Adamantoise server (where I am) or the one where Dezzy is (I forget where he is now :joker:) it would take a week or two to fully catch up, but it's three years worth of story :laugh: ARR's story is okay, if a little weak, but Heavensward is where the story in the game goes to a whole new level.

I'd say it's worth it, the ARR plotline is a bit of a drag to get through but the story really soars afterwards.

If you want to interact with people then you need to get yourself into an FC. It'll always be a bit lonely if you're a lone wolf.

I wouldn't say you are too behind to catch up, I'm pretty sure you can just go straight through most of the story at this point without having to do much dedicated levelling (you'll need to get your class's subclass to level 15 to upgrade to a job but that's nothing). I'd say it'd take you about as long as a normal FF game to get through the story so you have plenty of time to catch up before Stormblood plus they are adding jump potions but I think that's a waste since XIV's story is mostly worth experiencing.

I made a character like 2 years ago (Monk) and I'm sure it was on cerberus... Only got to about level 15 though and I'm not sure I was really enjoying the class that much. Also my guy looked pretty awful. Like an albino version of Neil from "The Inbetweeners". Like so bad I couldn't take any of the story content seriously because it was just like "LOL there he is :hee:".

My main gripe I guess was that it's an MMO but I felt like I was just playing solo all the time :shrug:.

a decent fc that regularly talk and play together will stop you feeling like ur on ur own all the time. i'd recommend a healer or tank class ideally too bc the dps queue times if ur joining a battle via at the duty finder can be a nightmare. :omgno: healing is ok, i thought it'd be really hard but it's actually pretty simple + fun once you get into it.

the arcanist class, from lv30 onwards, can play as both summoner (dps) and scholar (healer) jobs, you get given access to both and can swap between the two at any point. i despise both tho, my favourite healer was white mage by far and my favourite dps probably ninja tho i didn't really enjoy any dps jobs bc i just thought it was a bit of a boring role to play really.

Generally, if you join as a new player, you'll appear as a green leaf, so I imagine you will get quite a few FC invites, make sure to join a populated one though :p I think they're adding something for returning players in Tuesdays patch

Depending on your server, Novice Network can be good or bad, depends on the mentors helping out, but it is a good way to have newer players meet each other and such.

I think in 4.0, we're going to get cross server friend lists too :D

The expansion has been great so far, all the new areas are so detailed and lively (honestly, I think flying everywhere would do them a disservice. The story was great, with an epic finale and some good cliffhangers. The final boss was a lot of fun, and actually, hard.

I downloaded this again last week on PC (still haven't played it yet) but it was a bloody nightmare on that too. It was refusing to install to my E:\ drive where I told Steam to put it, and instead only installed the launcher there, which then insisted on trying to download to C:\ - my dedicated Windows SSD which has next to no space on it. :fist:. I had to essentially "trick" it into installing onto the other drive! Why does it not just let you choose, like literally every other game ever made? :joker:From 4th September the game will update via PSN, rather than via the launcher, this will fix several issues, such as a corrupted download and will reduce the game size from 67gb to 34gb. Update will be available from 28th

Yep, you do it via the Mog Station, also, I'm on Adamantoise, lol
